Is the Mellow Corn as decent for the price as I hear? The reddit guys go nuts for it..

    No.

I had an entire dissertation written up about my mellow corn experience, but you have summed it up perfectly.

Ok. I actually like Mellow Corn for what it is: A perfectly acceptable bottle of cheep hooch to keep around for the purpose of getting torn up. I grew up in the land of corn (Nebraska), and while other parts of the country are much more well known for moonshine, we had our fair share of farmers who made corn liquor in small stills. I grew up on corn liquor, there was always a jug of it sitting around at family gatherings, and for teenagers looking to party someone always had a cousin, uncle, etc that would sell a couple jars to kids. Corn liquor to me tastes like home, and nostalgia is a very powerful drug, so my affinity for Mellow Corn may be skewed. While it is more complex in flavor due to it's time in a used bourbon barrel, it has that recognizable grainy sweetness and ethanol burn that I actually enjoy. When people are over and a round of shots is going to get poured, Mellow Corn will do the trick. It's a fine mixer for folks that want a something like a whiskey 7, whiskey ginger, or whiskey coke. It's much better than bottom shelf garbage like Beam's 8 Star, KFB, Barton American, and Old Crow. I'm not quite sure where it's recent momentum with the internet bourbon hipsters came from, but all of a sudden people are talking about it. At $12 a bottle it will always have a spot on my shelf next to the other weird shit I drink that most people hate like Malort, Becherovka, Fernet Branca, and Underberg.

    Any good?

Same but cool bottle and had never seen it. I am a sucker for new to me crap

    #7509 3 years ago

Sample bottles arrived. I’ll try to put together something tasty. I really don’t have a unique collection. It will be fun behind the blindfold though.

It’s supposedly the Canadian Blanton’s (same mashbill and made by Buffalo Trace), they even have a moose instead of the horse stopper. It’s decent.

Having myself quite the Sunday funday over here. Work is gonna suck tomorrow but ......fuck it, cheers boys!
Edit to add a raising of the glass for Corey Crawford, dude’s been amazing this series.

No shit! That was the best writeup this thread has ever had: and it was for Mellow Corn lol. Well done @beergut666. Wild Turkey 101 and Old Fitz bonded (why did they stop making that?!) were my go to not quite bottom shelf pours way back when and 2 bottles of 101 will always be on my shelf. Maker’s too.

If anybody wants a bottle of Old Carter Rye Batch 5 or 6 let me know and I can get you one. I picked up a bottle for somebody today and the store had one of each left. Price is $160/bottle. Pricey but really good and very limited. From what I read, you can get in Cali and right here around DC, but that is about it. Just let me know.

It’s going to take a lot more to come back from this one after Knights badly outshot you tonight and should be western favorite. https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.redbubble.com%2Fi%2Fposter%2FCindy-Crawford-by-LenaWulf%2F48625627.LVTDI&psig=AOvVaw3IwfDZVQXhrYLpt0xHjWZH&ust=1597724800210000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CAIQjRxqFwoTCNCbteyyoesCFQAAAAAdAAAAABAN

I was very behaved this time. A fellow bourbon guy wanted to have a social drink. Who am I to deny that during his time of need?

Yeah, no shit about wandering on to Don's property! Or riding in his car! Or storing things in his safe... I think we have found the most dangerous man on Pinside.

Looks like Goose Island Beer is barrel finishing beers in Weller and Old Forrester bottles.

Not sure what I’m going to do with it. May drink it or I may trade it for some other dustys (Turkey). I can’t find any comps to see what the value is.
