    Quoted from djreddog:

What does this weather do to the crabs? Do they hide or become more available to catch?

I really don’t know. I will ask my neighbor’s son, who is a commercial crabber. I am sure the bay itself is going to be riddled with debris come high tide.

    #7252 3 years ago
    Quoted from DBLM:

I have a tree and half down and a bunch of limbs but no damage. We are without power but on generator for now. All of the houses on the bay have well water, septic tanks, propane tanks, etc, because they are so far off the main “trunk” of infrastructure. We have one main road down our peninsula and evidently they have 3 wires down across it. Good news is they are working on it now.
The big thing to watch is high tide around 6 tonight. They are expecting it to be about 3 ft higher, so low lying places will flood. We also had a full moon last nigh, so tides are a good half a foot or so higher.

    Glad you guys are safe

Matt has the storm passed uet? Make sure u put the bourbon bottles in the safe .

    #7256 3 years ago

We are all safe. Took a ride up the road and the power lines are knocked out at the top of the peninsula. Looks like it is impacting about 1100 homes. That is actually a good thing, so it means they will fix us quicker. ETA is 815, so no biggie. The only challenge is that nobody can get in or out, so I hope nobody has a medical emergency. One of my neighbors is going to pick up her husband by boat. Wild times.

The big part of the tree that fell is about 50 feet long and 18 in thick or so. It is the sod farms tree, so I will get them to come cut it up.

U better get your saw out and get to cutting big fella

    #7258 3 years ago

Not my tree, so the sod farm will have to cut that up. Trust me, I have enough of my own trees I have to cut.

    #7259 3 years ago

So my neighbor found I might have known some and asked me to come over and take a look at his pinball machines....
He had a Pinbot and Wipe Out.

Turns out both had very minor issues and should be easy to get in nice player condition.

Turns out also he is a bourbon guy!! Oh Baby... After several drinks and ping pong I get a bottle to go.

GREAT whiskey I must say. I have never seen a bottle locally.
    Great story on the name.

    Good to hear!
Having a generator out there that close to the water I’m guessing is a must with the wind and crazy weather.

Good to hear you guys are good. We put in a generator this year, thank the Lord we haven't had to use it so far. I would love to see it tested out though! (other than at the install)

Right on the head. Pretty much all of the houses out here have them. The good news is that we don’t get much snow, but we occasionally get ice. The main reason for them is hurricane season.

They are very nice to have. Don’t you have yours do a self test every week? If not, you should. Mine runs once a week for 15 mins.

Is yours setup to run the whole house or just circuits? The nuckelheads that owned this house before I did only had certain circuits with no rhyme or reason. Going to have to work through that and get it corrected.

Every Saturday morning at 10am, runs for 10 min. I'm OC about listening for it.
We have a Briggs and Stratton. The whole house except only the main AC unit. That's a 5 ton unit. It will select out the other 2. I'm cool with that!
400 amp transfer switch. Had the power swat team out here when it was installed. The local power board guys making sure I wouldn't get any free electricity.

Anyone know if this is any good?

Quick question, fellow bourbonheads. I'd like to try out Old Forester, and luckily the total wine near me has quite a few OF options available.
With that, how would you rank 1870, 1897, 1920 and Statesman -what's the best bang for the buck? I know it's subjective, but any feedback is appreciated

    #7267 3 years ago
    Quoted from Fulltilt:

Going out on a limb here but I’m going to recommend you try Chattanooga Bourbon 111 if you can find it.
Like a warm campfire. Unfiltered and yes it has corn, it’s from TN. [quoted image]

Took your advice and grabbed a bottle.

1920 is a tremendous bourbon, followed by 1910. It should be around 60 bucks, and is well worth it in my opinion.

I’m a fan. Good, strong bourbon with no burn. I met one of their sales execs when they launched here in MD in March. They are trying to be very transparent at their distillery and modern as well. They list the mash bill on the side of the bottles, which is cool.

    My mistake. Meant Driftless Glenn

Place I was just in had 6 bottles of Old Carter Rye (batches 5 and 6) for 160 if anybody wants one. Sample E that I sent out was the batch 6.

Yeah I’m looking for a barrel pick I found in Kentucky. Not sure if there is any out there like this.

Only seeing the regular rye here. They also have the bourbon. If you want this I will be glad to send it to you.

Figured I would give this a try. Montana bourbon scene is not good. Prices seem high and selection not great but this was under $30.
