Just poured my first sip of the new rare breed rye. Super sweet on the nose, hints of pepper. Kaaaboom! In the mouth it is peppery spice just a hint of the cinnamon that is usually prominent in Turkey products. Not really getting any mint or anything.......

    #6753 3 years ago

Rare Breed Rye: Not enough sweet mint or licorice for my personal preference. It’s mostly peppery with a bitter finish.
As a whiskey it’s pretty good but as a Rye it falls flat for me I wanted it to be as good as the Rare Breed bourbon. For those who don’t like the sweetness found in ryes, this one is for you.
Would like to hear others take on this whiskey when available.

    Me neither!
Here’s more proof to have as many local bourbon friends as possible. This is a crazy one off 14 yr old 140 proof MGP light whiskey that is crazy tasting and unlike anything else on my shelf that a buddy gave me. Also just got a text that another one just grabbed me a bottle of the first Smoke Wagon Uncut store pick in the Chicagoland area. Get as many bourbon friends as you can (this thread is proof) and you’ll get 10x the bottles you can by hunting shop to shop.

Never knew they were doing barrel picks at smoke wagon. You lucky dog!

They were doing club picks too, but just discontinued that program due to the demand from stores.

This C919 is pretty special. It is warm but smooth, with hints of vanilla and cinnamon. Very full body. It has a very thick mouth feel, almost syrupy. Very smooth finish. You would never expect that you are drinking something almost 137 proof. This is the type of bourbon that can get a man in trouble. Highly highly recommend this.

Smokewagon is good stuff. Small Batch is probably my favorite.

    #6761 3 years ago

Hilton,. Did you score some bourbon today? FB is blowing up with Blanton's, EH Taylor, Elmer T, Weller over in Madison today.

    #6762 3 years ago
    Quoted from DBLM:

From the EC website. I had no idea. You can go look up the releases on their site.
The first letter of the batch number indicates which of that year's releases the bottle was a part of, starting with "A," while the second digit is a number that determines the month of the year the bottle was released. The third and fourth digits indicate the year. Hover over the years below to see the full list of releases and their respective proofs.

Thanks, that makes total Sense and I guess all the batches of the same year are not materially different from one another. Guess I’ll pick up a A120 next time I do grocery shopping

    #6763 3 years ago
    Quoted from PinDeLaPin:

Do you want me to send you back a sample of the Peerless bourbon?

Thanks, one of these days I may ask you to return the favor but I’m happy with the rye for now. Btw, I think I saw Woodinville releasing something new. I’ll try to visit them soon to see if that’s the case

I would not make that assumption. From reading tonight and talking with a few folks, it appears that different batches have different profiles.

Also, saw your question in the stock forum. If your different tranches are all long, it does not make a difference. However, you can not change your accounting strategy without implication. You either have to sell specific tranches or stick to FIFO/LIFO for tax purposes. Your accountant can help you out with that.

This is what I was afraid of unfortunately. Rye has been an afterthought unfortunately in the Wild Turkey lineup and outside of the Master’s Keep Cornerstone (which was amazing), their rye offerings , from the 101 to RR 4r-SiB have been decent but not nearly as consistent as their bourbons. Dang.

Whenever your ready just send me a pm. Very cool about the Woodinville It seems they are at the point where they are free to start putting out more options which is good news for sure.

Yes! I was hoping for something really solid. I haven’t been able to pull the trigger on the Masters Keep Cornerstone.

That's the only one that I've come across at MSRP. Second lowest that I've found was $150 which I bought for a friend. Saw a bunch at $300 and one at $500.

I gotta say, the A120 and B520 are two of the best bourbons I've had, EC or otherwise. Looking forward to trying the C919--haven't cracked it open yet. And I can neither confirm nor deny that I have several bottles of this version.

After what I did to myself last night I have no business even looking at bourbon today, but it's fight night so it's time to get it on. Might as well start with B520.

A buddy of mine sent me this pic earlier today, he was in a high end wine store and this bottle is just sitting on a table with a bunch of bottles of wine. He's not a bourbon drinker so he grabbed it for me. Gonna be an expensive weekend, I just found out that the Peerless bourbon finally hit stores yesterday so I'm gonna go grab a couple of those tomorrow, and our area got big drop of a new batch of McKenna 10.

One of the Binny’s picks is absolute fire! Like it could be a Master’s Keep bottle it’s so good. I gave one away sadly to a guy who has put me on some nice bottles, so I need to find a couple more.

Hey Bill, which warehouse and floor was that barrel from? Maybe our barrels were brothers.

Well I decided to go ahead and crack this puppy open and see what it was like. It's actually very complex it has hints of caramel with heavy Oak almost like an apricot finish it's really good. I'm just not sure what it would be converted into or who it was made for.
