Never had mic drop. Anything it is similar Too? How would you describe It?

Well @ATGPinGuy I can say that i'm completely unsure of what this tastes similar too. It has almost a caramel like nose that finishes to a sweeter oaky mild burn, it is very unique. There's a lot going on with this one for sure. The one thing that stands out immediately is that it is very complex which is surprising for only a 4yr old bourbon. Chisox i'm totally glad you didn't like this one otherwise I would still be shit outta luck on it

It’s a 4 yr high rye MGP sourced bourbon. I liken it to a New Riff single barrel as they’re similar in profile (mash bill/proof). They both drink like 8 or 9 yr whiskeys to me, no crazy raw corn taste a lot of young bourbons have.

    #5154 3 years ago

    Grabbed a couple restocks

Stopped into Party Source right next to New Riff yesterday on a bourbon hunt

Happy WW guys. I have to admit, the bottle is rad as hell.

Looking past that tasty bottle of bourbon I’ve noticed your flooring and walls are almost identical to mine

    #5158 3 years ago

Well you have very good taste. Haha. We redid the basement about 18 months ago and are really pleased with this flooring, very durable and easy to clean.

Thanks confiscated is good. I think it’s over priced

The Costco's here just got a bunch in and are charging $90 for it, which I still think is too much but I'm still probably gonna buy one. No age statement, no disclosure of the source of the barrels, and only 96 proof is a hard sell at that price point (and especially at $120+ like it is everywhere else). Shit, I think I just talked myself out of picking one up again. If it were $60-$70 I'd be a lot less hesitant.

    I totally agree

    #5165 3 years ago

I really like KO’s products especially their ryes but never understood how they justified the pricing on the Confiscated. The ryes I get. The 11 year ryes are premium whiskeys and they’re legit delicious. But a NAS mid proofed bourbon with no sourcing disclosures like beergut666 mentioned earlier is kind of sketch. Actually while reading this I remembered that I did have it at a restaurant about 5 months ago. Lol. It was actually pretty good. I would probably buy it up to $80, maybe $90 if I was already drinking. So $150 and that’s my final offer!

Thanks for the notes... you have to like a 4 year that tastes like its 8+. All this talk of tasting. I think I will have a Wellers 12 tonight!

    #5167 3 years ago

Read an article today that said Weller 12 is basically Van Winkle Lot B. Can anyone confirm or deny this? I really enjoy 12, but haven’t tried Pappy.

They’re pretty similar in profile yes. 90 proof wheaters from the same mash bill if I remember correctly. The lot b has a little more depth but not by much. They’re some of the smoothest out there if that’s you’re thing (not for me). The Van Winkles are fine to try at a bar (or better yet at a buddy’s house!) or if you find them at retail(lol). But I have never considered buying one for secondary especially where they’re at right now.

    #5169 3 years ago

Bought a back up bottle for my back up bottle, so I better finish this one.

Just wiped out these two bottles I picked up from Doc's in Mokena a few weeks ago... along with some tasty dry rub wings . Any good recommendations available at the Binny's in Frankfort or elsewhere is the area. Looking to get fancy sauced this weekend... in other words, money not really an issue.

The simple answer is yes-I can.
The more complex answer is absolutely not-I need the remember the end of these meetings...

You guys are far too kind. It’s just nutty with that thing that I have going on. I am actually on a call with them now. I don’t want to hold anybody up so if anybody wants to setup one please go ahead. I will be glad to help you set it up.

All this being said, I might need a drink tonight. If so, I will see if anybody wants to hop on.

Ok, just got off and cracked open the Barrel. Still trying to process it. I get hints of orange and vanilla. Not bad at all, just not what I expected.

We have coastal flooding right now. As you can see, my neighbors’ docks are underwater or close to it. We got ours built about a foot and a half taller so no worries here. 3rd time in two weeks we have had flooding like this.

And the support Randy gave me was over the top.

    #5193 3 years ago

So tonight I started with 4 Roses, then Buffalo Trace, then went to scotch with Balvenie 12.

The 4 Roses was nice, well-rounded with an even flavor. Buffalo Trace was definitely sweeter with less heat. I went to the scotch to compare. As I said earlier, I'm normally a scotch guy. Going from bourbon to scotch made the flavor differences even more apparent. The Balvenie had a oaky, fig nose. You can definitely taste the cask. Bourbon, by comparison, is a smooth, easy drinker but not as 'complex.'

I like the Buffalo Trace a bit more than the 4 Roses, but I'm glad to broaden the palette. Good times!

Never seen that driftless glen on the shelves. How does it compare to that Willett rye?

    #5199 3 years ago

Similar taste profiles. Driftless has a more intense flavor I also pick up on more licorice notes with the Driflless compared to the Willett rye. Driftless is sitting at 120 proof.
