    Greetings from Mississippi fellow Pinheads,

My wife and I are seriously contemplating the idea of starting a Pinball/Arcade Expo here in central Mississippi (yes, I said my wife and yes, you are right, I am a very lucky man). There is a brand-new location that we have in mind, but before we get too invested in the planning phase, we wanted to get an idea of who all would be interested in attending an event in central Mississippi. We think it is a great “middle ground” to bring all the pinheads together from the surrounding areas that might not get a chance to ever meet otherwise. So, if you wouldn’t mind, cast your vote in the poll and for the sake of the poll, just pretend the dates of the show would be perfect for you. Also, if you think it is great idea, leave a comment and give us any suggestions you might have. If you think it is a terrible idea, let us know that too, but tell us why you think so. Thanks for your time and I hope to see you soon, if not at a Mississippi expo, at some show somewhere soon.

    Things to remember:

Adequate power is the most important thing about picking a venue. Don’t trust them if they say it’s fine. Try to test it somehow with an engineer or electrician.

If there isn’t a hotel attached, do your best to have one within a short walk.

Use Ticket services like Eventbrite instead of using a bank to process your transactions will reduce a lot of headaches and fees as you pay some of the fees and some are passed to the attendees. Also those services fight chargebacks for you (you will have them).

Plan as far ahead as you can, and find as much help as possible. Haha.

    Good luck!!

I’d come down from Memphis if I’m open that weekend. (There are dozens of us up here)

I assume it’d be around Jackson? I got some fam in the area that may like it as well.

    Yes, that is correct.

    That sounds great!

if there was more than one Tournament with adequate payouts =yes.

Yep. I'd come for sure, have friends in the area and would bring machines.

Yes, I would be there. Dates are tough, very tough. My best guess is you just have to pick one and move on.

    Sounds like fun!

Florida peeps are hungry to start playing again. We discussed trying to move forward with just a state circuit a couple yrs ago. We’re close, can’t quite justify a “larger” meeting tournament wise until things get a little better safety wise

Valid point, however this idea/expo is in its infancy. It would be a year out at best, so I figure things would be much better by then anyway.

It’s way too far out, but I’ve seen lots of pinheads in Louisiana so you’ve got a lot to work with. I’m sure you’d definitely gather lots of the rural, unconnected southern pinheads with the proper advertising. As I understand it, ISPs down in that area can be really shitty outside of large urban areas.

If you build it they will come!

Start out as a smaller event. Maybe get some of the locals together for a less public event for quarterly meeting before opening things all the way up. Getting smaller headaches out of the way then is just as important as big headaches when things grow.

It would be interesting to see if you could get 20-30 of your pinball friends to bring games to a small hotel with a meeting room for a weekend. I would be down for something like that.

Right now, we are planning to have a presence at the Comic Con in June. We are trying to get a pinball and arcade section going to get some hobby awareness and also gauge and build interest in an event. It is a pretty large con, so we should get plenty of traffic.
