As far as problem 2, on the monitor board there is a push button switch that reverses the direction of the adjustment pots. It should be around the plug area of the board, and it is labeled sw301-positive-negative. Push that switch in, turn the game back on and try to adjust again, You should be able to get it dialed in that way.
