    Hi
I need some help on how to proceed to repair my playfield. I have read so many guides but I do not know the best approach for my damages. I just want to prevent further damages and make it “good enough”.

    Cracks in painted areas:
I have started to do some touch up paint with acrylic paint in cracks/holes. My plan was to fill these cracks with something transparent (2 part auto clear, super glue or uv glue) Is this wrong approach? Should i remove the paint and fill cracks/holes and then paint afterwards?

    Filling of transparent inserts:
On the inserts i have started to put super glue (Cyanoacrylate) which I planned to sand down.

    What is your suggestions?
    1. Fasten all inserts with super glue from underneath to prevent further movement of the inserts.
    2. Fill the “cracks/holes” with super glue, clear coat or similar??? What is the best product for this?
    3. Sand down. Can I sand the hole playfield with 500 grid, 700 etc without removing the art/paint. Should i polish the playfield after to make the colours glossy.
    4. Touch up with acrylic paint
    5. Apply a complete playfield protector?

I would like to avoid to clear coat the whole playfield.

Hi Lanne, i repaired my RFM inserts a few months ago, most P2K are in that condition today.
I simply filled the cracks with acrylics paints and use a floor clearcoat applied with a sponge.
For the transparent insert, just clean them and repair the artwork before.
You can sand the whole playfield with 800 grid no problem but always watch carefully.
Nothing perfect and not a perfect glass but enough for the purpose of the gameplay and to prevent more damage.
The inserts didn't ''move'' to produce those cracks, no need to try to glue them backside.
The cracks are result of different material deformation over time because of the heat of the incandescent lamps.
Use LED instead after the repair to prevent more damage.

Go read Vid's guide on ultimate playfield repair. Everything you need is there. The last thing I would use on a playfield is a floor clearcoat. It will yellow over time.

    Thanks alot!

Should i sand by hand or by machine? I have a Mouse Sander like this ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/Black-Decker-KA161BC-Detail-Accessories-x/dp/B001G7PR3Q ) at home.

Maybe I should use 2 part auto clear instead? Can I use 2 part auto clear to fill/level up the transparent inserts? Is it easy or difficult to sand down 2 part auto clear if i get to much?

Of course it's not a yellowing clear and it does the job very nicely, it's very easy to use.

    Thanks for the tips!!!

I decided to continue with the super glue (loctite 401) but first I painted with acrylic paint.

Then I put a piece of paper over the area and marked where the glue was higher than the playfield. Then i transferred that to a sheet of Over Head plastic. I cut out the area and sanded with 350 grid, then with 600 grid wet paper and then Novus 2. I drew the black line around the inserts with a permanent marker (I know that the permanent marker is bad if you clear coat but I hope it will be fine under the Playfield protector I ordered a few days ago).

I am really happy with the result. The repaired areas are now leveled
