I had the computer in my pin2000 repaired. Prior to this, I have never had any sound problems. When I reinstalled the computer, I had no audio but lots of loud crackling. I had read that the crackling is caused by the wires being bundled. I unbundled the sound wires and this did not solve the problem.

In trying to figure out the problem, I realized that (1) the sound will not come on if the fluorescent light for the translight is not on and (2) the sound will come on as long as both my hands are touching the LCD frame that the fluorescent light on which the fluorescent light is mounted.

I tried running a wire from the ground straps to the LCD frame but there was no change. I don't see that there are any wires touching the LCD frame.

Any help or ideas? Thanks in advance.

Morning bump

I'm probably little help on this one but are the molex connectors, both in the back of the cabinet to the head, and from the power supply to the audio board in the pc, securely fastened?

Piparoo - things are properly connected and have been reseated, but I think you are heading in the right direction. I think I have an issue with the connector that connects the green and yellow wires to the front right of the comouter box into the audio amp. It is a white plastic connector with female metal sleeves in each of the six holes. Can someone point me to the proper name for this connector or where I can order it? Thanks Chris

You're looking for the name "MiniFit Jr." ... here's a link to the product on the Molex site:

The parts are available through DigiKey, Mouser, etc.

Bill - thank you! There are lots of connectors and I wanted to get the exact connector.

Sure thing ... they're the same connectors I used to interface with the Power Driver Board for my RFM Mini-Saucer LED mod. There's a few pics in the install guide:

Did you open the computer and reset the Audio/Reset Cable? (This is the black cable that runs from the prism board to the audio amp) A picture of the cable is located here - http://www.pinballlife.com/index.php?p=product&id=781

I believe since you had your computer repaired, you need to do an update. When you download it make sure you get the sound too.

Thanks for the response. The only repair was a new power supply and updated ram. I have tracedall the wiring to the speakers and I think the issue is likely in the power supply. I have a new power supply on order.

I swapped my power supply a couple years ago and ran into issues. I honestly can not recall everything, but I do recall sound was affected. What I had found was that the new power supply had two different leads coming out of it that had the same size/shape Molex connector, but they both had different voltages and when I swapped the connections everything worked fine.

Also, is everything grounded? Sound systems really like being grounded.

Good luck.
