Probably one of the biggest issues with setting up Pingolf tournaments is finding easy enough goals but not too easy. Score based are fairly straight forward with the only thing trying to figure out is what the target score should be.
Mode based are a lot tougher. Not only do you need to come up with a goal, but you will need to provide an online or printed guide as to how to achieve said goal. You have to keep in mind, not everyone knows how to get 5x bonus on a particular game or start some multiball. You'll have to have some step by step guide to let them know how to achieve that goal. You'll also want to think about what happens if one of the games in the tournament has issues or goes down.
I held an 18 hole mode based Pingolf tournament and swear i'll never do it again. Took me about 3 months to come up with modes, and write the rules out in booklets. Everyone that played in it thought it was great, but it was a lot of work.
