    Hey all,

Returned from vacation to plumbing disaster in the game room. Water from above into finished basement, slow leak but saturated ceiling which eventually fell in many places. A couple of pins sustained water damage - mainly to cabinets in the lower front and one to back box in addition. Definite swelling in the particle board. Took tons of pics and videos and started insurance process. Have good insurance and adjuster says that all property including pins are fully covered for repair or replacement cost. He also told me to start thinking about sources for value/repair estimates. Of course I thought about the rich community of pinheads out there. So if you have gone through a similar process I would love advice on working with insurance company and also if you are someone or knows someone that has given repair/value estimates for insurance purposes.

I can give more details or share pictures as time goes on but I wanted to put feelers out there asap. Thank you.

I would use the Banning auction for the insurance company to show values. Sorry this happened to you.

No need for Banning, those prices are everywhere now. Good luck OP on getting them fixed or replaced. My games will all be on the side of the house with no plumbing.

I suspect that your adjuster 1) is not familiar with the current cost of pinball machines, 2) expects you to find someone who can be paid to repair the damaged cabinet sections, and 3) will not approve the cost to totally replace your damaged pins with undamaged examples of the same titles. But sorry for your misfortune and good luck getting them fixed up!

If repair is possible, I suggest that you acquire written quotes from a reputable repair company to provide to the insurance company.
If repair is not possible, you might have to prove that to be the case with written documentation to show the value of each machine.
The insurance company might want to know the age of the machines and apply depreciation, depending on how things go.
If you have receipts on the purchase of the machines, that might be helpful for documentation purposes.
Insurance companies do not mind making you do a lot of legwork.
If the machines had water intrusion, the insurance company is likely to write them off as not repairable.
Pictures of the water damage might help with that.

From experience, insurance will seek to repair before replace. You can show receipts (if available) and get quotes. Once submitted the insurance company will also get quotes and find average cost to replace or repair. It can be a long process, but worked out for me in the end.

Update. Thanks all for advice. I got repair quotes from Dr Dave’s Pinball Restoration in MA. I ended up getting a good settlement, over $10k for damage which is actually more than I paid for the pins (years ago now so of course there has been pinflation). But I am more than happy. I didn’t have any special coverage for the pins, they were covered as general personal property.
