I've been putting together a guide for pinball coinboxes. I added what I could, but I don't have complete coinboxes for all my machines.

    http://www.pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Coinbox/Cashbox_Identification_Guide

If anyone has any of the coinboxes that are missing photos, could you post some photos of them?

The guide is missing all DMD games, Most EM games, Williams games, Gottlieb 80A, Gottlieb 80B, Gottlieb System 3, Stern MPU-100, Bally 6830, Game Plan, Allied Leisure (Gen2), Chicago Coin, Data East, Atari Superman, and Zaccaria.

Are you sure you have the lid on right in the first Atarian picture? The purpose of the diagonal "missing" portion of the coin box is to deflect the dropping coins to the back of the box so they don't cluster up front and stack up to the holes (back when pins made a ton of money on location). The holes of the lid should be on the same end as the missing diagonal.

That same angled relief usually goes forward towards the door so that it can clear any cleats used across the front of the cabinet at the floor and allow the box to sit fully forward.

    #5 8 years ago

Yep, looks like you're right. I didn't notice that it was the wrong way since the game is up on its end right now with the coinbox sitting on top. Nice catch.

Looks like I'll have to retake those photos

    #6 8 years ago

Cool idea! I am always tripping over coin boxes in my garage that I have 0 clue what they came out of.

I'll snap some pics for you when I am home of the ones I know belong with what.

    #7 8 years ago

I have a 6803 coin box I'll take a pic of tomorrow. It doesn't have a lid though. Is it supposed to have a lid?

The new photos are now up with the lid oriented the correct way

Thanks Pat, I'll look forward to seeing what you have. Also, if you have coinboxes that have both a cover and bin but aren't able to identify them, I'm sure someone else might be able to if you post the photos.

Yep, as far as I'm aware all coinboxes have a cover, except for woodrail games. I was hoping to be able to put up photos of complete coinboxes--not just bins. I've got plenty of coinbox bins myself, but no covers for a lot of them. But, if you're willing to post a photo of a bin, that might bet the ball rolling.

Shoot. Now I have to buy a cover... Are coin boxes easy to find for sale? My Stern Stars doesn't have one.

    Boxes: Yes. Lids: No.

Seems lots of people just tossed them back in the day because they were too lazy to slide it off to open it.

For us in the Arcade biz where you might have a game open with the public around, or a bad employee, our games had lids and Padlocks.

    Just took a couple pics.
I had a Gottlieb Sys 80 (you already have on the Wiki so will not repost)
My DE is missing the cashbox (
Everything else I have, you have.
But I did also grab a video game Coinco door and cashbox off of my T2 shooter.

I know the coin doors on Stern Electronics video games are almost the same as Stern Electronics pins, but are the coin boxes the same? (I want to say yes, but it's been years since i saw a stern pinball cash box). If so, I have two from a Amidar and a Tutankham that I can get photos of for you.

A number of folks were kind enough to supply photos for various coin boxes so far. However, some are still missing.

    Atari Superman

    Bally EM games
    Bally 6803

Williams System 3-6 (there appears to be several variants here--covers with no handles, covers with the handle parallel with the coin slots , and covers with a handle perpendicular to the coin slots)
    Williams system 7-9
Williams System 11 (plastic bin and suitcase styles)
    WPC

Gottlieb 80A - coinbox found in games with wide black coin door
    Gottlieb 80B

Stern MPU-100 (similar to MPU-200, but some measurements might be different)

    Stern Whitestar/SAM/Spike

Any coinbox photos from: Data East, Sega, GamePlan, Allied Leisure (Gen2), Data East, Capcom, Chicago Coin, JJP, Heighway, Spooky, and Zaccaria.

    FF,

Here are some shots of my Chicago Coin Kicker...

    (1) The coin door
    (2) The coin box behind the coin door
(3-5) The coin box outside the machine from 3 different angles
    (6) An attempt to show how closely the coin mechs fit above the coin box.

Looks exactly like what you have in the 1960's Bally section.

    Thanks for the photos Rob.

Since this box looks identical to the Bally coinbox, do you think one of them has been misidentified? It's not the first case I've seen where a coinbox from one manufacturer fits perfectly inside of a game from another manufacturer.

The thing that tends to indicate if the coinbox is wrong or right for the game seems to be if a bracket in the game is if the holes line up for putting a lock through the bracket in the game and the hole in the coinbox.

Is there a bracket that lines up with this in your game?

That exact same box is currently on flebay as "Early '60s Bally cash box".

There is no matching bracket in Kicker. At least my carpet looks clean under my "early 60's Bally cash box"!

Ok, taking another closer look at your first photo, it looks like there might be a bracket at the back, rather than the side. So, I'm thinking that this is a Bally coinbox that just happens to also fit in your chicago coin.

But, this is exactly the reason why I started compiling this guide--to help identify the proper coinboxes for games.

Thought I would post these for you, looks like you have the Williams system 7 covered. These are out of my Laser Cue, if you look really hard you can see somebody wrote Black out on the lid, so it is a replacement!

I know this is an old post, but I wanted to add the coin box from my Black Rose. I believe it is original. It’s plastic with a metal lid. Forceflow, I don’t know how to add it to Pinwiki - I’ll leave that up to you.

Black Rose was a Bally/Midway game, so maybe you already have it in pinwiki and I missed it.
