When I was restoring my POTO, I made the mistake of ordering a Rottendog Power Board. Found out that the board was not compatible even though it was listed as such. Flames flew out of it when I turned it on! Had to have the old board worked on and now it is running fine.

I hadn't played mine in a few months and put about a dozen games on it tonight. I love the sound system on mine. Great music! Thundering sounds!

Of course, it is not as fast and fun as some of my newer pins, but I keep it because of the beautiful art work. I don't there there is another pin out there that has such striking colors and appearance. I keep it mostly just to look at it! I put bright red legs on mine and it really sets it off.

I used the original board that came with it. I just bought an X-Pin Power Supply for my Frankenstein pin. Haven't installed it yet, but from what I read, they are more reliable than the Rottondog ones.

I've been following this ever since you started this project. GREAT JOB!

I have a POTO and I have a problem I hope someone on here can chime in on and help me get the issue resolved.

My ball up-kicker wasn't quite getting the ball over the lip and into the shooter lane. It got progressively worse to where the ball would not come out at all. Just kept popping it up but with little 'oomph'. I decided today to put a new coil in to see if that was the problem, and apparently, it WAS! It now has the power to kick the ball out into the lane and works super in that regard. HOWEVER . . . when I started to play, the pin will not recognize that the 1st ball has drained, and it kicks up a new ball and never gets past Ball 1. You could play forever! And sometimes it now kicks up two balls. I'm sure I've messed something up while putting in the new coil. I know it was installed correctly and don't remember touching anything else. Anyone have any ideas?

Also, can someone confirm how many balls this pin uses? I have three in it right now.

Thanks!!!

Quoted from jboner1058:

Did the coil you added have the diode in the correct way?

The coil for that trough/ball up-kicker that I replaced didn't have a diode on it, and I replaced it with the exact same coil number with no diode.

I know you are really busy but when you get a chance, will you look at your pin and see if there is a diode on your coil?

Thanks,

oth (all) need diodes

You give nice, thorough answers, including pictures! I LIKE THAT! Thanks for the pictures.

I'll leave you alone now and let you get back to your new toys.

Quoted from vec-tor:

I do not know what you guys are talking/typing about....
But Data East Phantom of the Opera pinball has diodes on all coils.
Data East is not Williams WPC system.
Has far as the outhole setup is.....
The
1) Outhole coil 23-840 with a 1N4004 diode cathode to the orange wire ( Q46).
2) Outhole Trough Eject coil 23-840 with a 1N4004 diode cathode to the orange wire (Q45).
Schematics pg. 27 and pg. 42.

AWESOME INFO vec-tor!!!! That helps in confirming what I need to know about the POTO, all its coils, and for this particular coil. I REALLY appreciate that!

Yeah . . . where is this "Phantom Club"???

So glad to see this thread for all us POTO owners!

My pin is in pretty good shape, except for the back glass. Lot's of peel of the mask. I wonder what that 'paint' or substance is they put on there? It wouldn't be that hard to touch it up, but would it fade in and out like the original?

I agree with Paul. I really like the gold one!!!

See if you can install it without having to really alter/change/make new holes.

Good luck!

Sad to see you couldn't go with the gold, but that flat black powder coat lock-down bar looks GREAT!!! This is going to be one awesome looking pin when you get finished with it.

I think this is going to be the most awesome and beautiful and fully restored POTO to exist anywhere! I'd give anything to see it in person!!!

If you get new boards, you might want to act with caution regarding the ones from Rottondog. I'm not trying to disparage them, but I bought a power driver board from them for my POTO and after installation it started smoking and caught on fire. Well . . . sparks and smoke mostly.

Seems like some of their boards having voltage problems. I'm not expert on these boards. I'm just paraphrasing what the expert said who I had to get to come and finish my pin repair.

That one Pinsider is in Brazil

Was thinking the same thing. He seems to be a right nice person. I bet he would do it.
