Mine has a couple playfield issues, you can see one in the pic I posted, right next to the mirror. Looks like it was cut trying to install or trim the mylar. There is another spot near the left sling other than that its decent, couple inserts the mylar is cloudy but they are not lifted enough to effect the ball. I've considered trying to pull the mylar because I would love to clear coat it, this thread makes it obvious I would be in way over my head. I did pull it apart sand, fill and paint the cabinet black then decal it. Have to say if your cabinet is showing its age this is the way to go. It came out awesome with the detail on PotO repainting would be a lot of skilled work and with the decals it looks brand new. Mine plays lightning fast I considered maybe putting weaker coils in because the ball does bounce around on occasion but with the Organ is so steep you kinda need the power. One other little thing, I found a batch of like bad acorn nuts at Home Depot they are like an off color, in the bin there was the super chrome ones and then a few that had slightly discolored and gone a little bronze. You can see the off color ones really well on the left side of the pic above the brown plastic. I was super happy to find them the look just a little old and fit the theme well.
Painting the details of the gold was just out of the question for me. My cabinet was rough it had a game of X and O carved in one side, it had been touched up and in a row of pins you would never see it. That side showed in my set up and the light caught the depth and it drove me crazy. For the quality your doing totally agree paint is the way to go. If you an average guy the decals give you a very nice players pin.
You are serious about the dishwasher? I had no idea you could do that, please post an after picture.
Quoted from jboner1058:Fallout 4 comes out today, so expect a few less updates lol. And Star Wars battlefront next week
Battlefront is killer, you won't be disappointed. There is something amazing about being a rebel battling it out then looking over and seeing Darth Vader coming, total shit in your pants moment. The only game that getting completely owned is awesome, he is so bad ass even getting forced chocked by him is great. The first time I got to be him wasn't as great for me because I got owned by Luke. If you a super hard core FPS guy it might not blow you away but its still good. If your a Star Wars guy and just having fun online its epic!
Where do you guys buy Mylar, I just got my Mirror door fixed and a new sticker on it, would like to put something over it to protect it? Can you just get it a craft shop?
I just bought a copy of the manual, I could scan the pages, but the fold out schematics wont fit in my scanner.
Anyone know how to upload a manual to ipdb? Now that I have the complete pdf it would be get it out there.
Quoted from jboner1058:I found a local guy who does it around here. Now the real question is should I keep the legs, lockdown bar, and sides black and original or maybe a deep red?
Love to see it in red but wouldn't gamble myself.
Quoted from Capinball:I'm ready to start a petition for CPR to reproduce this playfield, to end your suffering. I remember your original quest to get this machine and how excited you were when you found this one.
Sign me up, my play field is probably above average and I would love a CPR.
Quoted from jboner1058:I don't feel so bad now ebay.com link
Wow, those LEDs are a rainbow puke horror show and I'm not against LEDs all my pins have them.
Quoted from jboner1058:And... I'm gonna contact cpr and see if they want the scans. They were complaining they didn't have a good one to make a master from which is why we have all been stuck. Everyone here deserves a new phantom field
I hope CPR does a run, I'll buy one for sure.
I think it's just import to preserve it, I think a hardtop would be a lifesaver for lots of old Phantoms out there. CPR are amazing but so limited and hard to get. Hardtop could be made to order, I dunno if they are but I think it's way less to make them. I agree hardtop is nowhere near a CPR but beggars can't be chooses and all that.
I mean preserve it as art for everyone not this specific playfield. I mean for all the people with Phantoms with all the gold paint worn off. Preserve this one digitally so one day maybe they can get a hard top or a CPR if either is ever available. I love Phantom but its a low dollar pin, if I had the choice between CPR and a Hardtop I would probable go CPR but it would be a bad decision finacially. If I think about it logically for a pin in the Phantom price point Hardtop is probable the smart play. Then again it might not even be possible as a hardtop with all that gold.
Quoted from jboner1058:I think its a low dollar pin because almost every example is destroyed, and sound and artwork is what sells it. The game has just as much playability as any other system 11 game. Which all system 11 games tend to be 3 shot games. Bride of pinbot is the worst for shot variations, yet its getting 3k asking now. I obviously am not doing this to make money off it. It was my favorite game as a kid alongside Funhouse and Haunted House so I am trying to make sure I have one that plays and looks as close to new as possible. How many people sell restored stuff that looks nice but mechanically is still using 30 year old parts? A lot. Mind you I'm double over what the pinside value is on this machine, but I can say I have one that is as close to my original experience with one at the pizza parlor down town in 6th grade as possible.
You're preaching to the choir, I'm into mine for way more than I should be but I'll never sell it anyway. It's my personal favorite. I just want to see as many get saved as possible. I think for those that don't have love the pin hardtop is the way to go.
Mine has blue flasher towers at the back, lots of pics online have blue as well so I assume at least some came this way. I think it matches the theme and looks like lightning when they fire. The orange looks off to me.
I used brass post caps on everything except the flasher towers the white blended better with the stickers on the ramp.
Quoted from jboner1058:Got any pictures of how the brass looks?
They are not actually brass. I was in home depot and in the bin of caps I saw a bunch that were not silver. They had this slightly tarnished antique brass look to them so I grabbed them. I think they must have just had some impurity or flaw in the metal during manufacture. I'll have to snap a couple of pics tonight when I'm off work.
Quoted from vec-tor:You are missing the standoffs and clear plastics that keep the ball from getting stuck on top of the upper left pop bumper.
: (
I have it, I just take all that stuff off in my pins at home. The ball never gets stuck any way and if it does all my games have thumb locks so it's not an issue. It's not like I'm losing revenue or have to run out somewhere because the ball is hung up.
Mine does and yes they are janky. I took them out thinking they look crappy but the door doesn’t clear without them. You will need something as a spacer.
I played with the lights in my back glass a lot. I also used a little electrical tape near his right temple and his right jaw line so the mask is not transparent in those spots. You can see the two spots in the picture above. I used a couple of LEDs for the reflection in the mirror but actually had to pull a couple incandescents out just to get the effect perfect. I do have LEDs in the eyes and also a little tape there so they light up oval and not square.
I fiddled with mine a lot to get it lit right. I put tape on the wooden squares for the eyes and cut it the same shape as backglass eyes.
Most people figure eight the rubber to make room, just lift it off the back post and give it a half twist. You can also pinch the little metal tab on the top of left post of the mirror so mirror will be more straight up and down.
Looks like your missing a wire form. Mine isn't completely stock as someone added a screw to hold the wireform and I added some rubber to stop the balls from sometimes stacking on top of each other.
