It’s so damn pretty. Kruzman is the fucking man. 99% of the crazing gone, all the cracks around the inserts gone, the scratches in the clear all gone, man this is worth every penny. I wish my phone camera could show you all how shiny and pretty this is. It seriously looks like stain glass when the inserts are lit up

Looks awesome!

There is so much blue in the back of this game that you never see because it's covered with stuff.

It’s almost like they designed it with some other trails and paths in mind and then decided to cover it with plastics instead

#854 6 years ago
Quoted from MustangPaul:

Yup. At one of my old jobs back in the 80's and 90's I rotated 2 weeks each shift and there was ALWAYS OT available every weekend so a few times I worked 9 weeks straight without a day off while rotating all 3 shifts. I was taking home $1200 a week. So during those 9 weeks I was taking home $10,800. Being single I was having a blast with that money.

Thats about 2800 a week in 2018 dollars

WOW really?

I know Ron says I can start cleaning the holes and install right away but I’m gonna give it a month or two extra just to be extra cured. I still gotta finish the ramps and harnesses. Shits been crazy at work since December so I might not see some slack until July once the students and teachers are out of school (my time of year I can actually get things done at work during normal hours)

#858 6 years ago

I give up. Stupid punch slipped out of my hand and fell right on the spring ramp

#859 6 years ago

Man that's a bummer, its fixable though, better that than a chip out of the ramp.

#860 6 years ago

Crap, flip it over and try flattening it out.

#861 6 years ago

It’s flat enough after tapping it out. I’m not cutting another one. I’m out of spring steel anyways after trying three times to make this one. It wouldn’t have stayed cosmetically perfect anyways with the ball beating into it

Nos ramp with nos decals plus since I had a ton of extra ramp decals I put extra railings around it.

I LOVE RAMP!

#865 6 years ago

Bought new ramp flap material to start again. It took me like 4 attempts to get this last one perfect. Also, just noticed that my nos playfield that was drilled and dimpled didn’t have the drilled out holes for the two wire guides that go below the flippers. Are they even neccesary? Most modern games don’t even have them anymore

Lol I would have done the same thing! Practice makes perfect.

I'd leave them off, they were just used to prevent bounce back shots.

Had to redo the slingshots. Although I had bought new “suggested replacement” brackets and arms, phantom has an additional leaf switch that is triggered by a little bar on the arm. Of course none of the major pinball parts guys has those arms or brackets. So into the tumbler they go. Of course one was zinc plated and the other was not so they won’t match color wise. I really do believe phantom used it’s own exclusive crazy parts for damn near everything in this game since no one has original even basic parts for this

Reflowed all the lamp boards. Took all the remaining switch brackets off the harness and into the ultrasonic and then the tumbler.

Man that's lookin sharp. I hope you didn't get the tower leds, the regular 8 led ones look better because they light the dome from the bottom up so you get a nice evenly lit dome. The side firing towers create hot spots inside the domes.

#875 6 years ago

I tried the comet 8 straight up ones but they sit so tall that only the top of the dome gets lit

Did ya try dropping the socket a bit?

#877 6 years ago

It’s those black twist on the lamp board sockets. Maybe if I put spacers and a longer screw it might dip them down a bit

#878 6 years ago

I recommend protecting your home made flaps with something to prevent rust. Maybe some wax?
The flaps I made for a Monopoly a few years back ended up rusting very quickly. Actually, if I had to do it again I'd use stainless steel.

#879 6 years ago

Already hit it and the rest of the ramp with wax

Give it a try.

Tackling the harness. Started replacing worn out switches, nasty targets, and fixing the hacked up harness wires. Nothing like seeing the solenoid wires cut, twisted together, and wrapped in electrical tape. Same on switch wires. Everything will be soldered and shrink wrapped. Finally the flaky or crispy connectors will get changed out.

This is going to be amazing. Can't wait to see the final product

#884 6 years ago

Bought the wrong “suggested” pop bumper switches. I needed williams jet bumper switches. More money to throw away unless I try to save the scoring switch part of the stack and only replace the pop power switch and add the resistors and Capacitors separately.

#885 6 years ago

Even though these are brand new rings and shafts, they have almost a sandpaper texture to them. The last thing I need is for them to scratch up the ball, and then the ball scratch up my game. So I spent 2 hours last night sanding and polishing them.

#886 6 years ago

Great job. I've NEVER seen new rings like that before.

#887 6 years ago

Brand new pop switch stacks needed brand new capacitors, resistors, and diodes added to them. Half way done the harness. I’ve got 27 hours of overtime in this week so far but I’d love to take a day just finishing up the harness (I could have had the harness done a year ago but I’ve been putting it off because it’s so damn boring)

It's boring but you'll be glad you finally did it. I couldn't do something like that.

jboner1058 what did you use to sand and polish the jet bumper rings, those look crazy did you follow Vids process

Yep, vids guide. I took it up to 1200 grit before buffing. I was gonna go higher but my hands were sore from using a hammer driver for 8 hours straight at work and couldn’t hold the sandpaper anymore. A little higher would have made them even smoother with less grain to them.

Very impressive, do you think I can use a drill with polishing pads to buff them or do I have to get a buffing wheel

#892 6 years ago

I used a drill with polishing balls. It was hard to hold both the drill and the rings at the same time though. I took the day off. I already got my max number of overtime allowed for the holiday break. I just replaced the fuse block for the Pops and slingshots. It didn’t really need it, but here we go.

All the crispy connectors are finally finished. Just a handful of switches left and then I get the fun job of cleaning out the holes on the playfield and stapling in new lamp wire and lamp bases.

Fun and don't forget to seal the holes with varnish of something.

Would you still have to do that if it was a clear coated playfield. Just curious becuase I am about to do my first playfield rebuild very soon.

It is a clear coated playfield. You need to scrape off around the lip of each hole with a drill bit or a dremel so that when you put a screw in it, it doesn't crack or lift the clear. After im done cleaning the clear out, i have a syringe with superglue to just kind of lick down the edges that i scraped so it doesn't get air under them.

Yup I got the Kruzman kit too he just sent it to me this week. I thought Mustang was talking about something else. By the way how easy was it to use

We will find out together because thats my project for tomorrow if I don't have my girlfriend come over on my day off and have me do errands instead of work on this playfield.
