I believe if you go deeper into this post. Neo posted some pictures of my playfield when ge was done or close.

I think I posted a couple.

I know this field doesn't have pilot holes so I will have to come up with some way to transfer them. Maybe some transfer paper or something if i can make registration marks.

Thanks for the pointers. I did follow this thread closely but forgot it had been discussed. Very nice looking playfield restoration.

Quoted from MustangPaul:

Great. I know it was spendy but it was well worth it. Now see if that guy makes a clear plastic overlay for your pf, you have to take GREAT care of that pf, it may be the only NOS left in existence.

There was a NOS one earlier in this thread not for sale. They are around, but I would rather CPR made it so that everyone who needs one has a chance. This game is too beautiful for it to not be shared. Even the pinball arcade version is a poorly touched up one. In fact a lot of the machines on that game aren't pristine

#456 7 years ago
Quoted from jboner1058:

I will be doing high res scans the moment it arrives before I do anything and will post them and all of the decal files I've already made for anyone who needs them

Quoted from jboner1058:

And... I'm gonna contact cpr and see if they want the scans. They were complaining they didn't have a good one to make a master from which is why we have all been stuck. Everyone here deserves a new phantom field

#457 7 years ago

Seller told me there is some warping on that nos playfield that he couldn't see until he took it off the wall. Still though

You might want to have it sent directly to CPR then. See what they have to say.

Please send it to CPR so I can buy a new PF

#462 7 years ago

I'm going to send it to Captain Neo to clearcoat and lock down that gold first and then he is sending it to CPR from there

#463 7 years ago
Quoted from jboner1058:

clearcoat and lock down that gold first

Just a note, the playfield you are acquiring does not have the same
"gold leaf" as the original playfield it is darker and is made of a weird
green flake type ink. I did a transfer back in 1995 with a playfield
that was from the factory. I guess they realized that the "gold" that they
used is the same "gold" that was used on Gottlieb's Gold Wings pinball and
it's playfield also deteriorated while out on route.

#464 7 years ago

It looks the same as my April 1990 manufactured playfield.

#465 7 years ago

Once this is all done and completely restored I'm keeping it in the lobby of my local playhouse theatre that was just restored. My mom does the sets for them. Here is what she did for Tommy that's showing this weekend

#466 7 years ago

OK, so some parts I still need either nos or really good examples that aren't available anywhere I can see. I need a nos decal for the Chandelier, both subway ramps since mine are cracked and damaged, and I could use a new trap door scoop since this one is way worn down. I might sand it out but there is def a rut in it.

#467 7 years ago

Also, I am not sure if anyone makes cliffy protectors or scoop hole protectors for this but I know its gonna need them. I just don't want anything that will be visible on the play field

#468 7 years ago
Quoted from jboner1058:

If the playfield is from the same lot, then all the "T" nut holes would have
been drilled and there would be dimpling marks ready for the
manufacturing line.
I believe the playfield you are getting is from a different run.

#469 7 years ago

It probably is. I'll have to make a template up to mark where all the holes go. I've seen someone in the forums with a funhouse playfield in the same boat without the holes

#470 7 years ago

It's so beautiful

IMG_3165 (resized).JPGIMG_3165 (resized).JPG

#471 7 years ago

Truly gorgeous, one of the best looking PFs ever IMO

#472 7 years ago

It's the same exact gold as my old playfield, and there are dimples on the front and the back, just not drilled.

#474 7 years ago

Wow, Are you going to have Neo clear it for you?

P.s. Neo are you ready to touch and clear my other one! Hehe I know you hate these playfields for touch up.

#475 7 years ago

It's going on a grand tour. CPR first, then kruzman to drill the holes out, then Neo for clearcoat. Hopefully by the time it gets back the cabinet will be done. Still looking for NOS or repro subway ramps since mine are cracked pretty bad

#476 7 years ago

Only 3 little spots I see on it from where the inserts settled might need a dot of black touchup. And one small scratch in the clear but it doesn't cut into the paint. Could use a good naphtha wipedown for dust but man this thing is beautiful

#478 7 years ago

the clear should fix most of those minor issues.

#479 7 years ago

Just got in another half set of NOS decals which included the chandelier. So now I have a complete set and another almost complete set. Ordered 3 new pop bumpers bodies and new legs too. I'll have to send the legs out to my powder coat guy so they match the rails

#480 7 years ago

Could you guys post what your left ball gates look like? Mine is missing and I can't find the part number

#481 6 years ago

I got distracted working on this one and getting it all LEDed out. Got back my phantom playfield and I'm getting ready to get it drilled and cleared. Just have to recoup some play money after buying and working on Black Hole.

Well, was told it would be $1500-2000 to redo the cabinet in the gold inks and get it rescreened. Now, when I first bought it 2 years ago I ordered some “Etsy” cabinet decals that were HORRIFIC quality so I thought the repaint was the only way to go. Until retrorefurb decided to make some phantoms 2 weeks ago. Mind you, it’s not gold ink like the original. And it’s not screen printed. But from a foot away it’s hard to tell the difference. And I don’t want to have more than 5k tied into this game at the end. You don’t play the cabinet, which is why I spent more getting the playfield done than the cabinet finished. Wood filler and corners drying now, tons of sanding this weekend. Also I’ve got another load of NOS and new parts coming . All 3 pop bumper assemblies new, both slingshots all new, new flipper assemblies, shooter assembly, etc, every piece of plastic in the game. New coin door since mine is bent, new legs since I have a bent one, new power supply and bridge mod. The only thing I was gonna buy but mine cleaned up and arent bent out of shape was was all new targets. I might still put new ones in just to say all mechanical parts are new. A handful of switches will be old, but a lot of the heavy used ones that are bent or seen from the playfield will be new.

That's gonna look great when your done. That BH looks very nice too.

Thanks. My boy Devin did the artwork and clear coat and a bunch of mechanical and play field stuff to it. I did all the electrical and electronics parts and color matched all the LEDs which took like 6 orders from 3 different places to get right. Love the sapphire glass on it too. Had to put that in there. I think last I checked I've got 2600 into it. Cab could use some touchups in spots, and the coin door frame has key latch denting, but its pretty damn good if I say so myself. Dev started end of January on it, I picked it up in April and JUST now fixed the last of the horrible gottlieb issues. Was chasing a bad sound issue for months. Replaced all the sound hardware and all the components leading up to it. Turns out bad voltage from the power supply was causing it after spending $400 on new boards connectors and harnesses. I learned just changing caps out doesn't always fix your problem on gottlieb power supplies. Gotta change out power regulators and the zenner diode too.

#485 6 years ago

Looking for 2 final hard to find pieces NOS. The ball launch kicker arm (mine is snapped off and sharp but I could reshape if possibly and have it still work), and the small subway (Bay Area amusements lost the smaller subway ramp I ordered). My small subway isn’t broken like my other one, but it’s worn the hell out for sure and feels pretty brittle in spots and the main trail is like sandpaper texture now.

I wish the blacks were deeper and less transparent when under the lamps, but I made these in both white backed laser waterslide and clear laser waterslide. Not a lot of bleed to work with when cut out since I designed them for th transparent waterslide with airbrushed white over the insert. Gonna use them for the wall art that is my old field when my machine is done

As many POTO as I have seen that had the center insert burned there is a need for these. My double scoring is torched too and apparently that was a common failure on the game. The waterslide decals you made look good.

#488 6 years ago

Yeah but even at 600dpi laser you can see the dots. Maybe one day laser print tech will match inkjet density. But inkjet fades and runs

I might be crazy but every part except for a handful of switches, a couple boards, and the transformer will be new or nos. I could have bought a stern pro for what I’ve got into this over the last 2 years

Awesome work! My wife needs a new playfield for her POTO. Any chance there will be one available?

Anything is possible, but it took me 2 years to find this NOS one with a little help

Sure you could but your game will be better.

#496 6 years ago

Any chance of a scan of your NOS one for the hardtop guys? Did CPR scan it and any word on them doing a run?

#498 6 years ago

It’s been going back and forth and Kruzman has it now doing the drilling and clear. When it comes back I’m going to put it on the portable flatbed scanner and stitch together a 600dpi version

#499 6 years ago

I didn’t know about the hard top guys until i saw their space shuttle. Not sure how I feel about them for some machines but for space shuttle it works. I just like the sound of the ball rolling on wood

#500 6 years ago

Ordered the Lyman 2500 magnum tumbler, and a harbor freight ultrasonic. I did close encounters metal pieces by hand and it SUCKED. Going all out here. All my mechs and assemblies are brand new, but not super shiny so I’m going to disassemble them and polish each one.
