PF support brackets - Tron Pro

Some words of wisdom with respect to Tron Pro.

I've been around pinball a long time, and I have to say that Stern's omission (and reasons for doing so) of the PF support brackets is an atrocious $20 cost cutting measure that should be reconsidered. It's even worse that newer Pro games aren't dimpled for the 4 screws that need to go into the PF, although thank god the t-nut holes are pre-drilled under the apron.

That being said.. it's well worth adding the kit to your game, if you haven't already (PBL has the kits for $40? $45?), with a few caveats:

- Terry's instructions are spot on - nice work!

- Terry's kit has half inch screws - I highly recommend adding an extra washer in there to shorten the screw depth a little in the PF - 3/8's definitely feels safer.

- On Tron specifically, you don't have alot of options as to where to screw in the right bracket - you're going to be mashed in somewhere close to the hole popper and the Zen switch. Give the Zen switch a little bit of leeway - if the bracket's screwed in too close, it'll keep the switch from depressing correctly. Yeah, ask me how I know that.

I'll gladly provide pics of my install if anyone wants visuals.

It's not rocket science by any means, but drilling into brand new playfields isn't pleasant.

Thankfully, the results are well worth it.

Cyan,

I'd love to see pictures, as I plan on doing the same to my new X-Men Pro.

Thanks,

I agree, I installed these on my TRON PRO, Well worth the little extra. I just wish Stern would have installed them just charged like $25 more or something...

I agree with everything you said except the drilling. The kit comes with screws that go into the underside of the playfield without drilling. I added these to my XMEN and TRON. Its a shame Stern doesn't add them stock anymore to the PRO models.

Prices go up, features go down. Thank god for the competition in pinball manufacturing recently.

Plastic aprons, no PF rails, new lockdown bar. Would cost them very little to keep all of the above features traditional.

Rails was the 1st mod I did to Tron when I got it.

That is when prices started going up.

I installed the rails also they are very useful when doing mods.
