Are grammar conscious folks boring? Well, you're entertained enough to participate in this thread.
As for the sense of humor stereotype, most professional comedians enjoy a very high language proficiency quotient. Your anecdotal experience may differ. But, good jokes require precise word selection, timing and delivery. Spelling and punctuation might be less important. However, I suspect that professional comedians possess above-average language skills.
