A pet peeve of mine has been when people put the dollar sign in the wrong place. I don't know if in other countries its in a different place, but for those that don't know, it goes before the numerals. The cent symbol goes after the numeral.
Couple examples of it in the correct place:
$5000
$5
$5k
.39ยข
$6.39
