Quoted from swampfire:That’s creative destruction, one of the foundations of capitalism. No reason those jobs should exist when there are more efficient and cheaper ways to check people out.
Have you ever been to a fast food restaurant that is kiosk only? It's downright painful and takes like 5X as long to get your order in especially if you have to wait in line behind someone that doesn't understand technology. A few weeks ago I saw an older gentleman lose their shit and yell at the workers in the back of a Wendy's because he spent 10 minutes punching his order into a kiosk and then found out that it doesn't accept cash. He just wanted someone to take his money. Same can be said for calling a support line and have to go through 5 levels of robo operators to actually talk to some one. Yes, this technology exists and saves on the number of jobs needed but I wouldn't say it is more efficient than dealing with an actual person.
