Trying to wire coils in a machine and the pd16 board fuse blows every time on startup, but only when a coil is wired up. I checked the coil to see if it was shorted but it reads fine. I removed all other coils to narrow down the problem. Again, when a coil is not wired up, then the board turns on and the fuse doesn't blow. It is only when the coil is wired that the fuse blows.

Diode on the coil is unnecessary as the PD-16 has diodes for every input - possible/probable that the one on your coil is backwards. Cut that off and try again.

just snipped the diode on the coil. When powered on the fuse didn't blow (so thanks), but the coil fired instantly and stayed on high power until powered off.

I’m confused by how you have it powering the coil. The high voltage comes into J5, power is sent to coils via J3, and returns to J7 (J6, J4, J11 for B bank)

Oh also check the transistor. It may have been damaged by the diode and is permanently open

image didn't have the high power plugged in, but the way you described it is the way I have it done now.

Okay. SO, tried on a new pin and the coil didn't autofire. Thanks everyone I believe everything is fixed and I've got it from here. Thanks again, been trying to firgure this out for a couple days.

Yeah I’m guessing the one transistor is blown. Test it with the diode setting on your DMM
