I've been suffering some annoying trough issues with my ToM, mostly switch 32 not wanting to trigger more than half the time. Is the Pinball Life 8 ball trough a drop-in replacement for the trough and opto sensors? Does anyone have experiences to share with it?

Quoted from LTG:

If you ball trough is clean and no divots on the bottom. And balls aren't magnetized. Why not just get new ball trough opto boards ?

I'm pretty sure the boards are fine - I don't get intermittent errors on the opto sensor, I can trigger it with rolling one ball into the trough all day long. The balls are brand new.

The issue happens with multiple balls in the trough. After ejecting ball 1, the second ball frequently doesn't trigger switch 32 (ball 1) so it's some physical issue with the trough. The trough looks okay to me, but I haven't unscrewed it from the playfield. The machine has got over 20,000 games on it.

If there's another solution I'd love to hear it.

Lets balls roll down the ball trough nice and smooth. No need to worry about divots or magnetized balls.
Only other possibility is if the plunger that kicks the balls up to the shooter lane is a tiny bit high and not letting balls roll into position. The plunger/coil/bracket have four screws on the opposite side making it easy to adjust. Don't go too high or too low.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. Definitely sounds better than replacing the trough.

I checked the tip of the plunger and it sits well below the balls, so maybe I will adjust it up and see if that helps.

Don't, leave it alone.

But that fixed it!
