Considering all the newbies who have literally been begging Stern and other manufacturers to MAKE them pay more for stupid shit, it’s not looking good for pinball.
Every time I see some idiot who posts “I would gladly pay for DLC!!!” it fills me with sadness and contempt. This mentality is why Stern ships games with half finished code now.

For manufacturers it is good as it adds another revenue stream. For operators it is possibly good if it increases the length of time a machine gets good coin drop. “Come and see the new mode!”
It would be okay for home collectors if it was just going to lead to new content that otherwise never would have seen the light of day. Unfortunately what it will more likely mean long term is less in the game at launch so dlc revenue can be maximized.
I can’t tell you how many route machines are running day 1 code. The ratio of Ops that actually give a shit and do code updates to those that are clueless or don’t care is damn near 1:50 or worse.
Another thing are the patrons, they don’t even understand modes or code changes. When I updated a game most of them exclaimed “wow like a computer! Didn’t know you could do that!”
It’s lost on the average public.
