Payments through the shop are automatically being refunded. Bug?

    I have a customer trying to but an item through my shop. When he pays via his paypal, the payment is going through, but then automatically is being refunded for no apparent reason. I just sent a test payment to my paypal account that is linked to my store, and the payment went in fine. So I don't think there is an issue with my Paypal.

    Is there an issue with the shop right now, that might be causing this automatic refund issue?

    This has happened to other shops. A couple of months ago, a shop owner sent me this:

    "I found the source of the [PayPal] problem (in case anyone else has this). It is due to paypal being reclassified by the US government and requiring some accounts to be CIP verified. See https://www.paypal.com/us/smarthelp/article/paypal%E2%80%99s-customer-identification-program-(cip)-and-its-benefits-faq734
    "

    Last week another shop owner successfully fixed the refund issue following that link:

    “Ok, I followed that article. I added the last 4 of my SSN, and I believe it changed the status of the account. ”

    And indeed it worked for them.

    So I think that should do the trick. Let me know how it goes for you. Thanks!
