Hey PZ folks
I just brought back a PZ after missing my other one
One thing I didn’t notice when I picked it up The Capt N is not moving - he talks but no movement - the Optos work in sw edge
I have an older copy of PZ so my rom doesn’t have a head test
Ideas where to start ?
Thanks !!

Someone placed the wiring wrong to the motor
Can someone tell me how it should look or snap a pic
Now I see why it doesn’t work[quoted image]
Okay I found a picture on the group and required red and a black on the outer side of the connector
The motor works !!
BUT ... the captain looks immediately to the right robot
Ideas ??
Thanks
Quoted from Wheyfast:Does it stay turned or does it move back to center ? Can you run the head test?
I have proto roms
Head test is not installed
No the head stays there
I have to slowly move it back to center
I replaced the IC on the Red Motor Board - no change
Looked over the optic board but the Opto switches work in edge test

Quoted from Langless28:I’ll check in a little when I go downstairs.
Thank you if you require any other pictures just let me know
Quoted from PinballGiant:I had a PZ where the gear box was bad and the head would just make a grinding noise and wiggle back and forth a little bit but not turn fluidly. No idea if that’s related to your problem but the noise is similar and louder than I would think a well functioning one would be?
Hi
I took alligator clips and swapped the polarity
I can make him move either direction
Just can’t seem to have the game control him
I do have the L3 rom coming Monday with the Head Test feature so maybe we can shed some light here
Worst case he gets unplugged and faces forward
Quoted from Langless28:I think your flag wheel is 180 opposite of what it should be. On mine the inner half moon is on left side when the cap is facing forward. See the ledge on the left opto?
[quoted image][quoted image]
Thanks I’ll try it
Somehow Cap spun 360 and ripped out the coil wire
Quoted from Langless28:It’s actually inner half moon to the back.[quoted image]
Running to the game now
Thank you !!
I’ll report back
Fingers Crossed
I reset the wheel and power the game on
He only turns a 1/4 right and faces to the right now
Oh well
Can’t win them all
Any other ideas Folks
I’m willing to try
Quoted from Langless28:It’s the same for all wpc games before wpc-95 or wpc dcs.[quoted image]
Awesome !!
At least I can get something properly fixed
I did suck it up and order a new motor driver board from PBL as the switches are working
I will follow up
Thank you again for all your help
Quoted from Langless28:Facing forward head opto 3 is on.
Move slightly clockwise is head opto 1
Head all way looking right only head opto 3 is on.
There is a bunch of in between configurations but maybe that’s enough to adjust it right.
Thank you for all
Your help
I will
Check this out when the new motor board arrives
Quoted from Langless28:Weird, i think this escalates out of a PZ specific issue to a WPC-89 issue. Any legs get bent while putting the new rom in? re-seat all ribbon cables? try to re-seat ASIC? I wonder if the cpu rom was a different size and the jumper needs to be adjusted. I only vaguely remember this much, you would need to look into the pinwiki help files for wpc89 rom sizes and the jumper.
I spoke with a fellow pinhead
This comes back around to the Captain being out of whack
So I am literally standing by my door for UPS
the new bi directional board is on the truck
Hope to have resolution soon
INCOMING !!!!
Update
The New Bi Directional Board is here
The Captain is alive and well !!
Game is booting fine now
No Errors in Head Test
Rebuilding the Connector now
So far very happy
Thank you for all your help getting the little bugs taken care of
Quoted from Langless28:Nice. Weird how that board was causing al the issues.
All I can think of is if the head was not properly turning the optics were not triggering causing a hiccup
The P5 was very early code so I honestly don’t know
But we’re moving forward
Okay PZ folks
Finally after tweaks and rebuilding the connectors after help From the group
I play the game
And slight issue with Capt B Zarr Was discovered
He works !! Works fine
BUT when ball goes up the rocket ramp he makes the game lock up - then fail
Now if ball goes to the BOP (up dummy lane)
He goes to the same position 6 but continues to work fine throughout the game
See Video incase my terminology is confusing
Any help or guidance is appreciated
Thanks
James
Quoted from Mad_Dog_Coin_Op:Take the glass off and put the game in switch test. Press or trip every switch one at a time. Do any single switch hits fire more than one switch on the test or not register at all? My guess is you have a short or failing diode on the switch matrix that just happens to be in a row that intersects with the Captain's head. Check every switch out carefully that trips more that one switch including the diode. Don't forget to look over the ones not working. The switches on the left ramp in the rear are pain to access and possibly the problem child.
Well going through the booklet I was looking over the matrix
And noticed that a SW was circled 41 Back Ball Popper
So I will take a look and see if the combo of the 2 is causing this
I feel it’s not the Captain that is at Fault
Thank you for your help
Anyone else have thoughts feel free to post and I’m willing to try just lmk
4F439D25-BD07-4DBB-9302-90982C83DB50 (resized).jpegOkay the issue was found
Literally pulled the Field out and sure enough that VUK switch behind the panel was repaired poorly
The diode was backwards and the wires were not even correct
White was in the middle not green was soldered wrong as well
OP cob job
Installed a new switch / Diode and no longer crashes
Very excited
I start shopping it out this week
Quoted from Peruman:Maddog and Langless, thanks for all the help.
Maddog —> is there nothing bracing the cabinet bottom under the transformer? That’s a heavy item. These photos are great, now I know how everything is laid out
Oh my yes please if you require help
We will be happy to assist where needed
The PZ group helped me with mine and would love to help another PZ sore into the OZONE
Need pictures or etc just ask as I seen many has already assisted
Good group here
Quoted from Peruman:Before I get myself into trouble in my playfield teardown, is there a correct way to remove the entire Capt B.Zarre head assembly off the playfield? I got the wires to the opto board and wire harness disconnected. I see there are four screws holding the metal bracket onto the playfield, but how do I get the Captain's head through the hole?
Alberto
There are 4 -1/4 inch size screws holding the mech in place
Remove the connectors to the assembly
Then 2 screws on each side on Capt Head
Be sure not to tear as you pull up
Then I usually loosen the lowest pop bumper to allow wiggle room
Works for me
Quoted from Peruman:If possible, could someone post a photo of their shooter rod assembly? Other than the mount on the outside, everything else is missing on mine. Trying to see what parts I need to order.
Thanks,
Alberto
Hope they Helps

Incase anyone is looking
Added over 4 years ago:BOTH PLAYFIELD AND DUMMY SOLD !!
Quoted from Coachmudd74:Hello everyone I just got my first PZ! Love the game and the machine is in great condition no fade the only issue I’m trying to figure out is that my jaw is not moving on the captain...the 2 wires are good the coil is firing and the mechanical jaw wire is barely moving and the jaw is not moving at all...what should I do first? Attempt to remove the head? I herd it’s very tricky to remove without tearing the rubber...any information will be greatly appreciated!!
Make sure the wire arm isn’t bent to hell
That would cause the mouth from not working
Take the rubber head off - carefully
And see if it works “naked”
Mine didn’t work but I adjusted the rod and now mouth works great
Quoted from tp:Joined the club!
Yes or no opinions
LEDs?
Mirrors ?
Sideblades?
Color dimd was a must for me so already ordered that.
Looks like I need center plastic and dummy.
Available? [quoted image]
Tom
Welcome Buddy !!
Any questions just text me
PZ is a nice game and I’m sure you’ll dig it with your collection
5E5FA5FF-4BFA-4559-B66B-86E68DFB9179 (resized).jpegQuoted from Coachmudd74:Ok I just move both screws on the sides of the head and it should pull off? Should I warm the rubber up with a hair dryer to slightly soften the rubber not a lot just a little?
No don’t warm it
Just use caution as paint can be weak and rubber might split
Also there are 2 metal spacers in the rubber head where the screws are so be aware so you don’t lose them
Should come up with some maneuvering
Quoted from Pablito350:Can someone please measure how far up and down the dummy moves. Ours was missing the mech, and I'm modifying another mech to function, but it's throw is way too much.
I'm guessing it should move only about 1/2 in.
Thank you!
-Paul
Maybe this might help ??
Party Zone for sale (players game)
2800$ obo
Autographs in Translight by Dennis & Greg
See Ad for Details
Quoted from AlexRogan84:Anyone know if Party Zone has attract mode sounds? I know it is in the settings menu, but mine is set to ON and it doesn't make any noise while in attract mode. Not sure what the deal is. Anyone know?
Yes
But you need to make sure your Sound Roms are the latest version
The latest cpu rom give you all the options but without the correct roms it will not work
My PZ had attract sounds
My buddies did not as he had Proto Sound Roms and the latest CPU rom chip
Quoted from AlexRogan84:That's interesting. I am looking online at the vendor's that sell ROMs and it seems that Fliptronics versions of PZ are on L4 while non-Fliptronics versions (like the one I have) are on L3. I believe I am running this L3 version of the CPU ROM.
As for the sound ROM's, I see there are three separate ones that together make up the sound and music set. Unless I'm mistaken, they are all only at L1, which seems to me like they never changed. Is that right?
I would assume those are the sound roms the game was born with as many people don’t usually change the sounds
Like between the 2 party zones here
After you complete the 1st Multiball and hit the cottage
The Big Shot says on game 1
“Hey get a pass From the DJ”
Same scenario on Game 2 says
“Hey get a pass from the Captain”
So yes the older roms will differ your results
