I've created 3D printed arms and legs that fit the Dancing Dummy. Check them out at http://www.shapeways.com/shops/kahrparts

I did this because, like most of my PZ, it lived a long hard routed life in Europe. And before I created this 3D print, you just couldn't buy replacements anywhere.

Does anyone have a hi res pic of the bottom of the rock-it-meter? Just helped a buddy move one, and it has bad wear spots by the flippers, and he would like to make a decal for the area.

How's this...

I am pretty sure I read WPC games won't work without batteries. Is this true?

No, it will work without batteries (but won't "remember" high scores and settings).

You should not put another battery holder on that board... mount one off-board or go nvram route. Batteries on the board = problems waiting to happen. Don't use the holder you ordered.

All those burnt connectors and the matching header pins need replaced. The wire nut solution should be removed as well. Tough to tell but it looks like that bypass the PDB GI lamp control circuits (and thus the fuses as well).

Good luck!

I fixed mine with help from that thread. Mine didn't have the original jaw lever; it had a picture frame hanger bent up and forced to fit. I modeled a replacement and printed it at Shapeways... worked out nice!

jetmechinnc , your game looks nice. be careful when the playfield is up - you don't want the light board behind the backglass to swing out and break that right ramp... you'll never get another that nice.

Just joined the club... this pin needs some TLC but I've switched out to LEDs (playing with the color scheme a bit) and I did some work on the high current board and swapped out the DMD. Playfield needs some repair where there was flipper drag and someone tried to do a touch up (if you can call it that). Cabinet art is faded in the front and slightly faded on the sides but the price was right so I figured it was worth some time.

Good grab - ramps look nice and I like how it matches the EATPM next door!

I had troubles with that switch a couple years back - it started exhibiting misses while I had it at the Allentown show. I futzed with trying to align the switch and (of course) broke it. Replacement still had problems; it turned out to be battery damage on the MPU was the root cause. That same replacement switch is in there working fine today.

The next time it's boppers 1 million. This is where you can really rack up points, especially during multi ball or even after one of the ball drains and the playfield scores are doubled (2 million per bop).

... and each 1M bopper hit is accompanied by a pretty cool sound effect as well when this is active. I thought that mode was time-limited like bop-till-you-drop - maybe I'm wrong there.

Quoted from gutz:

I no longer have a pz, but my guess is that both switches in the back need to be held closed when both balls are back there. If a ball is ejected from the up kicker (during normal play), i assume the 1st lock switch is working and the problem is the 2nd lock switch. The switches may work when a ball rolls over them , but make sure the ball keeps them closed at rest. Confirm in switch test.

Thanks, gutz - that aligns to my theory based on what I am experiencing. It's going to difficult to get that switch right because of the positioning of the assembly behind the playfield. I'll be at Pintastic is this weekend but should have some time to work on it during the holiday week; I'll update with what progress I make.

Well here's the update - I got it working but that switch is in a terrible spot for adjusting/testing. There are some additional good suggestions and what worked for me in the other thread I posted in about "no big bang". In short, work from the back with the head flipped down, get yourself high enough so only your wrists enter the neck hole, and use a multimeter to test the switch rather than constantly flipping the head up to use the game software.

I'll also mention here that I used Bondic to repair my right ramp. Years ago we talked about it (or I think we did in this thread). My ramp was held together with a couple clear plastic stints and packing tape. The Bondic repair is only marginally better. I found the product wasn't strong enough to hold the ramp together without the stints, so now they are attached via Bondic instead of packing tape. I'm happier with how it did on the exit hole on the ramp - that was also cracked and missing a piece. I was able to build up the void with Bondic and it works pretty well holding that crack together. I think the break in the center of the ramp is simply exposed to too much lever action because of the length of the ramp. Here's how it looks:

Bondic repair of right ramp with clear stintsBondic repair of right ramp with clear stints

The ball rolls very cleanly across the repair because most of the work is on the underside of the ramp.

Time will tell how the repair holds up. I found I had to replace the packing tape about yearly and the game sees very limited gameplay.

Is there any word on somebody tackling the issue of making some reproduction ramps ?!? Just wondering if they'll ever become available!

One can wish but it sure does't seem likely. I got a nice left ramp from a part-out in Mexico (found via Pinside - thanks!) and I did a pretty good job of using Bondic to shore up my right ramp. No longer any packing tape holding any ramps together in my machine.

Ball coming off ramp issue.... put tons and tons of random plastic guides from other machines on the damn game.

That's um, unique. At least it looks like it was "lovingly" done so it can be removed with minimal ill effects.

In my experience soft pads dont work. You can try bending metal bracket down a little.

I think I have my metal deflector bracket loose which helps absorb energy. It makes me wonder whether mounting it with a spring in line with the screws would be a better way to absorb.

Quoted from Langless28:

his setup works better than stock. Two washers under deflector and stiff springs above it with #8X1-1/4" screws so they are still solidly in the wood. Now I get like 25% of shots in. Think the mounting holes in deflector need to be elongated to allow more movement by getting hit.

Spectacular, Langless28 ! Thanks for the photos - it's a very clean finish and I'm going to try to replicate your effort.

Quoted from Langless28:

I have created a 3D model of the crash test dummy since they are unobtainium. I think its close to 100% dead on. I can do a few different things to accommodate the needs of the people.
For starters, i still have to add the art to the side of the head. I also need to test it with mech's inside. Not sure if the original was molded or thermoformed (my guess is thermoformed) because the wall thickness is a little uneven around it.
I can provide this model in the following ideas/flavors.
1. as-original
2. as-original but with the "decaled" features actually embossed into the part. This would allow you to 3D print it, color in the face/logo and NOT use stickers.
3. as-original but with thicker wall for durability----not sure how much thicker I can go due to the mechs inside.
4. solidly filled so that if you do not have the original metal parts, you can screw the arms/feet into the body (with like shoulder screws) and I can come up with a method to attach to the solenoid.
I can provide any of these ideas (or others) as a .STL file for anyone that needs them.

That's great! Suggest you also post it in the Shapeways marketplace so folks who want to "just order one and have it show up in the mail" have an option to get it as well.

Quoted from capriv8s:

Big thankyou to Langless28! I had the Dancing Dummy printed with Shapeways (cost $11.96). I uploaded the STL file to their website so everyone can buy one. It's taken me 5 years to get this Dummy body and I'm chuffed with it.

This is a great success story! I've had the arms and legs up on Shapeways for quite some time now but I long ago gave up on modeling the dummy itself, primarily because I wanted to make it with the internal skeleton included so it would be possible to just snap the arms and legs I created directly onto the printed body/skeleton. Logic being that the skeleton would be just as hard as the plastic to obtain if the whole dummy was missing.

On the arms and legs I sized grooves for the black details (e.g., shoe laces, cuffs) such that a fine-tipped sharpie could be used to blacken these details for a closer-to-original look. Langless28 and capriv8s , might want to consider updating what is posted with the same strategy to let folks 'ink-on' the details that were originally stickers.

For those that aren't familiar, here's a link to buy the body, arms, and legs on Shapeways directly:

I just checked. No markup. He’s just being a good guy and making it available to the public. However I will make a shapeways account and put all my stuff on there. No markup of course.

It’s interesting you can get a metal version for only several dollars more. Never break the dummy again!

Excited to see what else you populate into that storefront! Re: metal, I've printed lane guides in their metal offering and can report that it is pretty robust. I typically bring some examples to my booth at pinball shows so anyone interested who is coming to Allentown or the Northwest show this Spring is welcome to check out some 3D printed metal products (lane guides in this case).

Am I worrying too much?

Given how rare, no, I don't think you are worrying too much. I managed to score a replacement for the left ramp about 2 years ago from an overseas teardown (I also got the Bzarre head) but my right ramp is still a bondic- repaired eyesore. I guess there is the chance they will be re-manufactured but they've been rare forever and that hasn't inspired a run yet.

Im going to see if I have any contacts that do 3D laser scanning. If I could get a model, it can be printed and reverse molded.

I scanned one with a borrowed MakerBot scanner a couple years ago. It didn't come out well. Since then here on Pinside I lucked in to a guy from Mexico who was parting out a PZ - I got a very nice b-zarre head and a left ramp from him. I just checked and I still have two STL files from the scan - If you want them PM me an email address. They are about 3.5Meg each.

Fedex driver made a stop at my house today!

IMG_3300 (resized).JPGIMG_3300 (resized).JPG

I must be patient because everything that comes in to my home spends time in quarrantine first, so this box will sit where it lays for a day or two to let the fedex funk dissipate before opening.

Really a no-brainer to get a set when you consider how rare it has been to find a ramp in usable condition and what price that usable ramp would fetch.
