After a break, I’m back into my Party Zone rebuild. I’m ready to take the playfield out of the cabinet. One of the things I noticed is that the ground braid is wrapped around and running with one of the wire harnesses. It’s the harness that goes to the coin door and flippers. I’m not a solid state guy, so is this normal?

Also, most of the ground braid is corroded, some bits are missing. Can someone post a photo of how the braid is run in the cabinet?

Thanks again, this group has been awesome in helping me bring this game back from the dead.

Hey Pinsiders. Just bought my 1st Party Zone last week and looking forward to cracking up a nice high score. Got a bit of a comp going with a mate of mine who has had his for about 12-18months now and the only setting we have changed is that the 'Special' gives you an Extra Ball. I noticed a couple of comments about a 6.5 - 7 inclination however does anybody know what the 'standard' may be? Thanks all and ... TO THE OZONE!!

Hi again, thought I'd post some pics up as well. It's in really good condition and has had some work done to it but I'm no expert ... yet. Could someone tell if there's been anything major done? I can see that the battery has been removed and NVRAM put in it's place but I'm not sure about anything else. Much appreciated!!

Hello! I’ve had my Party Zone for several years and I keep having problems with the comic vuk Not kicking the ball hard enough sometimes. It will work 10-20 times in a row and then fail 1-5 times in a row and then work fine again. Anyone else have this happen or have any idea how to fix this? I’ve tried replacing the coil, plunger and shaft but this changed nothing.

Quoted from Pinballdad1961:

My son blew away my high score on PZ this morning, and he’s not sure how he did it. His score ended in “59”, so we’re wondering if it malfunctioned somehow? Has anyone else seen a random score like this on their machines?[quoted image]

Yes, If you get the Big Bang and it’s maxed out at 99,999,999 then the last digit will end with a “9”. That’s also how he got a big score.

BOTH PLAYFIELD AND DUMMY SOLD !!

#559 3 years ago

Finally found myself a Party Zone that was in really great shape! Everything is all original (ramps, posts, plastics, etc) with the exception of three NOS yellow bumper caps (had red caps when I got it), and two NOS “Request” & “Time” targets (had standard targets when I got it). The playfield is still in excellent condition, the Cosmic Cottage is in one piece, the crash test dummy has all original pieces (just missing feet), the rocket is still in great shape, and the Supersonic Robotic Comic as well as Captain B. Zarr are both working as they should. All lighting is upgraded to LEDs, and translucent rubbers were installed throughout the playfield along with colored post rubbers. The game plays amazing and I couldn’t be happier with it!

That370Z... Congrats on your PZ! It's such a fun / quirky game. I've had mine for about 20 years.

You can paint CaptBZar's teeth with a white enamel paint you'd find in a Hobby Lobby or Michale's.

Hi all. I've only had my PZ for about 2 months now and I've noticed that the DMD does not seem to be centred within the translite and you can clearly see the circuit board. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can fix this? Is it worth trying to move the lamp board mounts across somewhat as it seems to have a fair bit of empty space on the right hand side of the light board? If anyone can post a picture of their setup would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think the problem is your translite. Pop the retaining clips off backglass and see if you can move the translite to the left. The DMD is in the factory mounting holes so I don’t think that is the issue. By the way, your DMD mounts are broken. You might want to consider getting replacements if you can find them. No big deal, the screws work but look a little funny.

#564 3 years ago

thanks for the advice and for picking out the mounts. I'll look into it however I had already checked the position of the translite and it seemed to be perfectly positioned in the middle of the backglass already. Won't hurt to check it again ... properly.

Hi PinHeads. Anyone know if you can still get a replacement 'Bally' logo for the top of the cabinet? Mines a bit used.

I am in the process of reproducing the Party Zone ramps. I'm making the left and right large ramps. Anyone interested in the upper left ramps that goes behind the playfield?

I’m surprised no one has answered your question yet. I’m about to purchase my first pin and it will be a PZ. I’m going to buy your ramps, and would definitely want the upper left ramp.

Anyone have experience touching up their PZ cabinet with the Copic alcohol based ink? The person who originally posted here about that process (years ago - post #143) has been inactive...After a 6 month search to choose a pin, then find one to purchase, I've finally picked and found a Party Zone! It's in great mechanical shape, but needs some cosmetic work. The biggest issue is that the cabinet is very faded. Before I go the decal route, which I don't have the time to do and would probably be super expensive to have someone else, I want to look at other options. If these Copic pens are little more than coloring inbetween the lines, I might give them a shot...I am somewhat handy, but new to doing anything with a pinball machine. I'll even need to look up how to take the glass off, or open the translite - so a total novice. I may be posting in this group as I need help, but will research as much as I can before I do post. Thanks!

I have never seen touch up pens that would work on decal material.
Just go to PPS and get the real decals. (these are thick and are fluorescent)
These went on for me better than any others I have tried.

Bud, I appreciate the information! I'm still researching - I know I'm not confident taking apart the machine to do the decals the right way and saw that old post about touching up the original cabinet. My plan is to see if I can find someone to decal at a reasonable price, and am just looking at alternatives. Thanks!

We've hit a brick wall on Party Zone. After waiting 2 months we received our PETG order only to find that it is too thick to use. I have never had a manufacturer send plastic thicker than I ordered until now. We have more on order now but it is a 4 week wait. Hopefully during these 4 weeks the decal will be done and we'll be ready to go.

I am just glad that there are PZ ramps being made, so waiting a few more weeks isn't a big deal. Thanks!

Party on dude!

Just picked this up yesterday. Second pin to go with the Lethal Weapon 3. PZ is one of about 5 or 6 I'm looking to get, all ones I played as a teenager. Getaway, Funhouse, Diner, Highspeed and Rollergames will be mine someday!!

I would very much be interested in buying a complete set of new plastic ramps if they are remade (saw the posts earlier in this thread about that... awesome!)

Also attaching a couple pics of the flipper coils underneath. My right flipper is weak. Feels like it's only flipping with the hold power and not the full power. Maybe the dual winding isn't working or getting engaged? I am not convinced the wiring is correct though as it is different than the left side and my left flipper is fine.

That capacitor there that's hanging (which I now realize is supposed to be zip tied to the little bracket) has for some reason gotten red wire extensions and was murretted together instead of being soldered. I don't think the extensions themselves are a problem, but if you look at the outer tab on the coil, it has too many wires terminated on it. Like the one red capacitor wire goes to that tab and yet it does not do this same thing on the left side. That capacitor terminates only right to the EOS switch tabs.

Any advice or suggestions? Thanks!!!

Nice looking game but the flippers need cleaned up a bit. Looks to me that you need some new caps, eos switches and likely sleeves. Here are some photos I swiped from the web that should help you out.

Thanks a lot for those pics. Super helpful.

I did correct the wiring on the right side last night and it didn't make a difference.

Next up I'll take the coil out and inspect/replace the sleeve, plus look over anything else that might be damaged or loose while it's apart. A friend suggested checking for continuity on the HV lugs (checking Ohms for resistance) to see if the 50V winding is shot.

Worst case scenario I replace the coils. I was planning on doing a flipper rebuild kit and will likely put a parts order in after the weekend (as the parts list will likely get a little longer as I poke around further!!).

It is pretty obvious the prior owner didn't know what they were doing by the quality of the repair job. My guess is a bad EOS switch (might just be a contact issue) and / or a cap. Do a Ohm compare between the "good" coil and "questionable" one. Coils are tough which means it is probably fine. Just take the assembly apart and check things over. It should be fairly simple.

Well, giddyup! Got the flipper coil assembly apart and cleaned a pile of filth off the plunger. Put a new sleeve in and tried it out. Big Bang! Man, fun fun game when it’s all working as it should.

Thanks for the help!

Can someone tell me what this opening is used for at the rear of the playfield? My cover is intact, but only has a screw on the left side (I grabbed this photo of someone else's PZ because it was clearer, with less stuff in the way). I tried peeking behind it and I'm not convinced there is a receptacle of some kind to attach a screw on the right side. Or maybe it's just not aligned to let you put one in. I don't think it's at risk of falling out, just more curious as to why it is there?

I think to get access to the mechs behind it for service.

It seems common. I have seen a few pics online with only that left side having a screw. I think the right side was meant to have a screw, but that hole in the plastic doesn't line-up with the spot behind it that the screw would need to insert into. That's my theory anyway.

And I think you're right about accessing the mechanism behind it for service.

Well, once again we hit a brick wall on doing the ramps. About a month ago, I drilled out the flap from the lower left ramp and sent it out for production. Today I realize it was never received. So not only have they not been done but now I don't have a sample either. Is there anyone out there who has a flap they can send me? It can be rusted as long as it is complete. Please answer here so I don;t get dozens of PM's.

Here's an update on Party Zone. These ramps have created more problems than I expected. It's a tough fit to incorporate the thicker material. I have been through 3 test, fit then retry rounds. Two of the ramps are done. The left ramp still needs some changes. Decals and flaps have been on order for several weeks. Hoping I can finish this by Xmas. Because of the design of this game, fitting theramps is not the finish. I need to ensure the game plays the same.

Are they factory looking or different? Any teaser pics!? I'm interested in a full set either way!

Hi all. Have had a very strange experience today. I can no longer choose / move any of the highlighted 'BOP' with the left and / or right flippers. When the ball goes through any of the letters, they just stay lit and don't move left or right so it's been hard to complete. This also means that I can no longer choose a track during music request as the flippers don't move the cursor to highlight and select a song. Worst of all, got a new high score but couldn't select letters to enter my name?!?!? Anyone seen this before and know a work around or fix? I've already performed the 'Factory Adjustment' but that did not work and I have not performed the 'Factory Reset' just yet as I didn't want to lose the new high score. Other than that, flippers work as normal. Thanks.

Thanks Alex!! Always trying to get better and a good trick is to get the 1million boppers going and then get 10x playfield and shoot the ball up there. I think I picked up at least 140million just from that

You wanted a teaser, here it is. One off set has been fitted. It is tight because the ramps are much thicker. They were made on a female mold so the tabs are way thicker. So thick, you may need longer screws at some attachment points. Need to now run 150 sets so everyone will be able to get one. Also waiting on the decals and flap for the upper left ramp. 2-4 weeks.
