I’ve also spent a lot of time working on that relay in my Royal Flush, and I finally got it working consistently again. There’s a sort of brake switch blade that contacts the underside of the plastic gear and holds it in position. It’s not the easiest thing to reach, but I adjusted it to lessen the tension it exerts, and now the relay’s been working without a hitch. Hope this helps.
