    Quoted from aalucero:

In Michigan this would go on for a few months to a year and then be thrown out. The winners would be the lawyers. Michigan has an Open and Obvious law that protects from slip and falls and tripping in a parking lot. People still try to sue and it never goes anywhere.

I was on a jury in MI, a freak accident. A woman rolled her ankle on a rut in the driveway. She had the fancy lawyer fishing for cash.. so lame, we had too many bleeding hearts and ended up awarding her something like a couple grand.

    Quoted from snakesnsparklers:

A couple grand is almost nothing in a personal injury case... This case could be well over $100k (or $0 of course)

Yeah, I didn't think the defendant was liable. So any award was not justice imo.
we had to decide if the driveway rut was an unreasonable danger. Some of the jurors got hung up on feeling responsible. Anyone who has been around a dirt driveway would be insane to think what we were shown was an unreasonable danger.
Edit: I remember when the fancy law dog explained to us how we couldn't put a value on the plantiffs suffering and loss from the ankle injury, then proceeded to put a value on it and throw a few righteous numbers out there.
