You need to find out where a ball is stuck. Turn the game off, unscrew the lock bar (inside the coin door are two wing nuts), then lift he lock bar off and set aside.

Slide the playfueld glass out.

Unscrew the four retaining screws for the playfield (on the wooden edges) - some games have lost or removed these, but you should see the holes if they are missing.

Now you can lift the playfield, carefully - slide the shooter rod back and grasp the ball return hole.

Carefully lift up and slightly forward. Take a peek underneath as our do so and see where the ball might be hung up. When all 8 balls are in the trough, the first one should lift, and the path to the lifter is pretty simple, so I'm guessing one of the balls just didn't make it home.
