Update 3/31/19:

Progress is being made on the next 10 built, should definitely have these finished by the end of April.

Including the next 10 I have bought out the last 23 brackets available by Marco, PinballLife, and For Amusement Only. There is still a seller on eBay who has some, but I refuse to do business with him based upon past dealings. I communicated with Margaret at PBL and she’s said that she has checked with Stern and these are NLA, with no plans to make anymore.

Based upon the posts in this thread there definitely is demand to make at least 30 if not 40 of these mods, however as I mentioned brackets are now NLA. In order to meet demand I have come up with an idea to help everyone get of of these mods:

I am bumping up the gross price of the LOTR Palantir mod to $225 shipped CONUS plus additional shipping costs outside the US. Included in that $225 is a $50 core charge for the return of your stock Palantir bracket that I will refund to you upon my receipt of the core return, making the net price $175. Core shipping charges are paid by the buyer. If you decide to keep your original bracket your final price will stay at $225 shipped.

If you have a spare bracket or two laying around I will buy them off of you for $15 each upon delivery, with you paying shipping. This would also bring the original 5 buyers in on the same net price of $175. If you have a spare bracket(s) available please PM me. I’ve attached a pic of an original bracket (Stern # 535-9381-00) for reference.

As for best way to send these brackets to me First Class postage in a padded envelope or small box will work fine and only cost a few bucks.

I hope that everyone is okay with this “core return” idea, as it provides the best opportunity for everyone to get one. Obviously as demand decreases later on I’ll change/discontinue the core returns, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.

Good question, I thought about that as well. Unfortunately it wouldn't work well. The bracket requires modification to make it work, and then the alignment of the orb with respect to the bracket so that the player can see the eye effect is critical. Getting all this just right took a lot of trial and error so it looks right, and I want every buyer to be happy with the final product. I can't guarantee that will happen unless I build them completely.

I had someone else ask me via PM how much the mod would cost if they just send me a spare now instead and thought others may have the same question:

I'm going to try to keep it the same for everybody in order to keep it simple: once the brackets are done I'm going to go down the list in order and charge everyone the same price, makes it easier to track and keep straight. Once you have it, send me back one bracket and I'll refund $50. Send back 2 brackets and I'll refund $65, 3 would be $80, etc.... Heck, if you don't have the mod and just have a spare bracket or two to sell, I'll buy those as well, at $15 each upon receipt. The big thing with the core charge is that I'm trying to entice people to sell me back the stock brackets that are now NLA so that others have the opportunity to purchase a mod as well. The average cost including shipping when I bought the brackets was around $15 including shipping each, so trying to keep things fair.

Once I get thru the first 20 or so I'll probably go back to the fixed $190 price period with no core charge or buy offers, as I don't want to have to keep a pile of brackets forever, I'd rather sell them out at a certain point......

Update 4/28/19:

The second batch is ready!!! I have 8 ready at this point. I had hoped it would be 10, however 2 of them have some waviness in the glass sphere so I'm redoing those, which should be ready in 10 days or so. My apology on the extra delay on those 2, but I didn't want to ship them if they weren't quite right! I have also already begun the wiring of the next batch after that, hope to have those done by the end of May.

Are you going to use it for the core return when your turn comes on the list or in addition to your stock bracket? Either way works, just let me know. I’ve had another Pinsider already send me a bracket, and when his turn comes he’ll only get billed $175.
