the ppm has a few pretty ratty 1950's bally and united bingos that are scheduled for the part-out piles.

if you are in the San Francisco bay area and always wanted to try working on a bingo, these are pretty much free (or anything you'd care to donate) - no legs tho.

    the ones I remember are:
United: circus, triple play, manhattan (maybe), ...
Bally: night club, big time, a magic screen game, cypress gardens, ...

I'll get a better list next week.

backglass conditions are probably mostly poor. Any good ones the ppm would look to sell.

I will be digging into a couple of machines to document stuff that wasn't in the manual, but if someone wanted the game I'd do it non-destructively. It's faster to chop them up, so that's the plan over the next few months.

    Manhattan, you say?

If you are just looking to get rid of them, I would love some of the playfields and front of the cabinets. I have been experimenting with uses for the front panel of cabinets that nobody wants. Hell, I would take side panels too if the art is cool. I assume you are stripping all salvageable parts for restoration/use on other games? Im happy to cover shipping and a donation to the museum.

    #4 10 months ago

Nuts. I'm in the SF bay area and have a few (restored) bingos but no
room for more. Hope someone rescues these.

    #5 10 months ago

I'll post some pics and a list of the games on tuesday.

the playfields are certainly available ... I assume the stuff on the bottom is not wanted? You need light shields, or are the playfields going to be stripped bare?

most of the cabinets are painted over with zylatone.

there's at least one manhattan that is not painted over. I'd need to scrounge some parts for it ... small stuff like a couple relay coils and the lockdown bar. I'm pretty sure there's at least one backglass in a crate in the warehouse.

they also have daina smallwoods collection, including a double header. There's no plan to sell those right now, but I keep nudging them to. Free play bingos are a problem at the public museum as people tend to reset them and walk away, leaving the motors running all day or making work for the front desk folks to keep shooting the balls or tilting it. 'course, the motor issue can be solved with some added circuits or a timer.

I would just want the bare playfields for art. Dont need anything on them. Too bad about the cabs. Finding front panels has been a challenge.

    I love this place!

I would pick all of these up if I had the time to get them. If you can pop any of the wood rails off of the united games, I need both sides and a lockdown bar for my working game. Will pay shipping. Hell, the coils alone are worth saving as they are hard to find. And of course I could use the cabinets and playfields for art projects. Especially the fronts of the cabs.

    #10 9 months ago

what game do you need the rails and bar for?

I vaguely recall getting the rails off a bally is pretty easy, and off a united not so easy. I guess the top of the cabinet could be cut off with the rail then you could cut/mill out the rail itself.

when games are junked the coils, motors and sometimes units are kept. Can't keep it all tho otherwise there's little space savings in parting out the game ... which is kinda why these bingos have sat there for years.

the museum is working on a long term plan. Renting warehouse space isn't going to be an option forever. Unfortunately, none of us have a spare few million dollars to buy the museum a permanent home and warehouse facility, so the process has started to reduce the storage used by the stuff that will never be used in the public museum.

I have a united paradise (1948). I could mill the rails off if sent to me. And a lockdown bar. Im sure one, or more, of the games will fit mine. They are pretty much all the same size. I think they are a pain to get off, but I can deal with that. Anything would be a huge help!

    #12 9 months ago

the museum has a paradise ... I'll check and see if parts off the bingos would be useful for you. The lockdown bars I remember are more rectangular, but the one on showboat looks narrower.

    #13 9 months ago

the ppm paradise is missing its lockdown bar. However, it looks like one from the worst united circus bingo will work, tho the bolts need to be shifted. The circus bar and rails were painted over with zylatone, but that strips/sands off pretty easily.

the big time is spoken for, but the rest of the games are currently available. I can be reached at [email protected]

even if people took complete games, there will be playfields left over from yacht club, roller derby, triple play, big time, night club, circus, miss america, and probably spot lite and bright lights.

if nobody wants some of the complete games, then most of the rest would be available too. Not sure I'd scrap out the golden gate, bikini or beach time I guess you'd be shipping by pallet?

Any early Bally legs available? I'm looking for the kind that have the large curve up top and the notched edge all the way down. I know they were used up through the end of the '30's, but don't know when they were last used. Like this:

I'd love to have a Cypress Garden bingo. Went there many times as a kid growing
up in Florida! Very popular place back in the day.

legs are usually a problem. Although the museum has scrapped quite a few worn out woodrails, they don't have enough legs for all the machines they have.

try googling for "richard conger - silverball ranch" and if you can find current contact info, ask him if he can help you. He has a large collection of early machines.

I'm pretty sure the cypress gardens in the pile has a painted cabinet, but it's otherwise complete (without legs tho). I'll need to pull it out and see how the backglass is.

they also have a cosmetically very good condition cypress gardens (with legs ) that I could probably convince them to sell if you were willing to part with a few hundred dollars. Email me at [email protected] if you want to talk about either option.

there's also some original manuals/schematics for the early machines (and some one-balls) if someone is looking.

Makes sense. I've gotten a part from him in the past, via Wade Krause, for my pre-war game. Still kicking myself for not by up all the wood legs from the auction where I got my pre-war game from as they were just lying around and not even part of any lot. I probably could've bought them all for like a buck each. There were over 40 of them there. I didn't know how scarce they really were as I'd never owned a pin that old before.

I only need one and honestly, it'd be super easy to remake it as there's not that much to it. But, it would be nice to have an original one on there. I'll reach out to him and see if he's got something.
