Quoted from nwpinball:

That's how it happens! I bought one color DMD and some LEDs for one game, now most of mine are tricked out.

Most days it feels like I bought one project pin and now all of my pins are projects.........

#2152 7 years ago
Quoted from bigbadmiker:

I bought Mark's POTC last year. My wife and I love that machine. Then our other pins looked so boring when we brought it home. So we bought your kits, spotlights, led strips, etc for the others. Now all our machines look pretty awesome. Looking forward to seeing what you have this year.

Agreed, Mark's light kits really make a machine come to life. The biggest bonus for me is I can 'see the ball' when playing my WOZ without overhead lighting

Looking to trade a player's World Cup Soccer '94 to change up the lineup. Plays great, playfield in excellent shape. Minor cabinet fade on one side, lock bar hole. Repaired cracked ramp by diverter that doesn't affect game play. Looking for something in the same range +/- cash, especially the following titles:

High Speed II, Judge Dredd, No Good Gofers, Shadow, Road Show, Indy 500, Johnny Mnemonic, Black Rose, Bram Stoker's Dracula, TSPP, Whirlwind, RBION

Looking for an Williams IJ and am hoping someone might have a lead on one or one for sale.
I do not care about cabinet fade but I would like it to be in good working condition.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance and I hope you have a great day!

nice but pricey

#2156 7 years ago

My thoughts exactly.
If it was 1k less I could afford it.

#2157 7 years ago

Considering the number of machines my friend in Spokane is selling (and a few others), it is a little scary.
He has a very nice "herd" of machines, many of which are going up at the same time to feed his other hobby.
I know who bought his BBB locally, which was thankful that it "stayed in the family" and did not end up in Australia.
I hope my spider senses that are tingling are wrong.

I will probably purchase his DH to keep it safe.

Breakshot for sale.
Has wear by the pop bumpers and a little flipper button wear. The translite is a little faded. Other than those things it's a nice looking pin. $1700 obo.

It's not pinball, but it is a game (almost) and it's FREE! Asteroids cocktail arcade game, missing main PCB. It's free because we don't have the time to figure out if it works or what repairs it might need, and we need it gone quickly. It could be as easy as putting a new circuit board in but at the very least anyone taking it should plan on replacing the card edge connector (in our experience they almost always need replaced), it's been sitting for years so the monitor and AR board are likely to need recapped as well.

Pick up only, pm for more information. Thanks!

#2163 7 years ago

Hi everyone, I am new to this thread but am headed down to the Tacoma show next weekend and thought I would throw this out there. Does anybody have a BALLY Star Trek pin (1979) or Harlem Globetrotters that they would be willing to part with? Don't need a collector pin, players is fine. Would possibly consider a project if the price was right.... Looking near the Tacoma area or north to the border as its on my route. Thanks!!

I've got in Pinbot I'm looking to trade. Hoping to add cash & upgrade. Looking for a 90s era Williams/Bally. I'm in Portland. PM if interested!

https://pinside.com/pinball/market/ad/35359
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/for-sale-medieval-madness-williams-1997-home-parts

I've also posted it to the PNW Pinball Classifieds Facebook group, and I'm about to post it to the SMAC Google Group.

I'm located in Bellevue, WA. The game will *not* be at the show this weekend, and I won't be at the show either until Sunday.

Thank you!

I sold the machine through the SMAC group yesterday. Unfortunately, when I closed the ad and selected that it sold through another channel, it immediately archived the thread and publicly displayed the ad as "not sold". It sold, at that price! Just not through Pinside. I didn't realize it would archive the associated thread, so I didn't get to post about the sale there.

For Sale: Stern Star Trek Premium - $5500
This game has been really popular at my workplace over the last 18 months or so. So popular that it has about 17,000 plays on it. I like to think of them as "soft plays", though, since there hasn't been any smoking or drinking around it. Nobody's kicked it or damaged it. Think of it as having been really popular with a large family.
I've done the best I can to keep it clean, but the playfield is still kind of dirty. I haven't done any kind of deep cleaning, though, so maybe its new owner can give it a good scrub-down. I've also replaced all three flipper plungers and coil stops. In the interest of honesty, there's a bit of chipped playfield up on the lip of the magnet on the way to the kicker that fires the ball back. It hasn't gotten any bigger in the last couple of months, though, and the picture makes the dirt in that area worse than it is. I've cleaned a good amount of that out.
NOTE: In the pictures, a "Special Glass" is mentioned. That's not included. It also doesn't come with a shaker motor, though we might be able to negotiate.
The game's at my work in an office building in downtown Seattle, so ideally, you'd be able to come pick it up from there. I have an after-hours key so it wouldn't have to be strictly during the day. I've attached some pictures. The machine is in the mail room, so the blacked-out areas are places that might have people's names or other work-related stuff.

You would increase the viability of an immediate sale if the game was shopped, especially downtown metro.
This game is not a maintenance "nightmare", and could be completed in roughly 10-15 hours properly, or a little more around 20 hours dependent on how much time you wish to expend with some Novus 2 and waxing.

#2171 7 years ago

It's at my workplace, so taking the playfield apart to get into every nook and cranny probably isn't going to happen. What other work would I be doing to it that would take 10 to 20 hours?

Changing rubbers for one. ST is kind of a pain due to the overlapping ramps which you need to remove almost all in order to swap out the ones in the back.

A proper shop job minimally requires you to remove everything and clean/replace parts as necessary.

Nobody mentioned having to take this to the extreme.
I provide the basic cleaning tips in this case, because you are selling the game "quickly".
If you do not want to do a full process "shop out" which would take more time (50-60 hours for this title based on the level of cleaning and rebuild required as I rebuild all assemblies and get out the power drill for polishing):

1) Take the wireforms off, and the major ramp assemblies via molex connectors for switches.
2) Clean the game (ramps and playfield) with Novus, install new rubber ring kit, wax the playfield, reinstall.
3) Rebuild the flippers with new coil sleeves, check the coil stops for peening and replace if necessary, and scrub the cranks, pawls, and plungers of carbon.
4) Check the flipper bushings for cracking.
5) The central USS Vengeance shot path is accessible without removal of any assembly parts including the ship.
Knock the drop target down, and use a rag and Novus 2, all that dirt will come right off.

The entire basis of the playfield is a big open space.
Once you get a few of the parts off, the game cleaning is realistic.
It would be difficult to get all areas of the back orbit, but rollovers are manageable once the beta quadrant ramp comes off.
This is a 15-20 hour process, and the results will be very good.
Take photos if you are concerned about reassembly order.
This is not STTNG, which is a MUCH MORE complex machine.

This is not a collector showpiece game or "full restoration method", but a clean game attracts buyers.
It will also help improve skills of basic maintenance.

Man can people not just post something for sale and not be hassled about it. This seems like a great deal. Many of us would love too save a few bucks and enjoy cleaning it up. Guy is open and honest about the machine and gets hit with a wall of text nagging him like a cranky old lady. GLWS sale and hopefully some one gets this that will love it.

#2176 7 years ago

Well, to a certain extent, he's right. It could definitely use a good cleaning. I'm going to give it a good five-hour shot this week, and see what I can do to it.

I may have miss understood your response, I thought you were being sarcastic about wanting to put time into it. To me your price seems fair and reasonable and exactly the situation I look for. A "routed" pin that is in nice shape that just needs a little effort to be beautiful. You appear to have gotten good value out of it and there is still great value for the next owner. If I didn't have to cross the border I would have jumped at this, I would think you would have no trouble selling it.

#2178 7 years ago
Quoted from Darscot:

I thought you were being sarcastic

I probably was. Or not. I'm not sure.

At any rate, I gave it a good scrub down with some Novus 2 and a microfiber cloth. I'd previously been unconvinced of its cleaning power, but after putting some real finger-work in, I think the results are pretty nice. I'll see if I can slot another chunk of time to come in on the weekend, put on some Gordon Lightfoot, and get to all those hard-to-reach places.

17000 plays in 18 months is a routed pin. That being said, $5500 for it in the condition shown is still a good deal. That is $1000 less than the show special price that one was sold for last weekend that probably had 1000 plays in 3 days.

Yeah I'm not really into the routed vs HUO thing and I don't care how many plays it has. I just look at the pin. Was the one at the show a private sale tax free? 5500 for a Star Trek Premium that could be very very nice with a little effort sounds like a great deal. It hasn't been in some bar get banged up and spilled on. Like everything there are degrees of variation, this pin is a little dirty but other than that appears great. I seen both routed pins and HUO pins in worse shape than this. I know a lot of pin heads have a bottomless supply of cash, but to me $1000 for a few hours work that I enjoy doing is a no brainer. One thing that drives me crazy about this hobby is people seem to think because a grand is nothing to them its nothing to everyone.

Does anyone have a System 6 or 7 for around five or six hundred bucks? I've got a friend who's been inspired by the NW Pinball Show to get his first pin. The only condition is that it has to work. Reasonably well, anyway. I can fix minor issues.

Man why people recommend Novus is beyond me. That shit has no place near a pinball playfield. It's a rubbing compound and every time it's used some of the playfield clear coat is removed. It's the same with magic eraser or light grain sand paper.

Simple green and other harmless cleaners can work just fine and are totally harmless. Novus is ok for plastics but don't put that stuff on your playfield.

Agree. Novus 1 is ok on the pf, but still, why not just use simple green?

Some of the first machines I cleaned were with Novus 2. It worked. I've now come to see the same light that Mark has. I've known it's an abrasive. Your playfield does have a clear coat on it but it won't last forever. Make it last as long as possible until it gets re-coated. I've taken to Simple Green and it removes dirt just fine. If it doesn't remove the dirt then it's ground in and probably should've been maintained rather than left to sit there and get ground in. If you want to remove the dirt (typically a ball trail) then I think the only option is to start sanding (either with Novus, sandpaper or Magic Eraser). I'm now of the school that if I use those products I line up the playfield for re-coating next or very soon thereafter.

The ball launch here on this No Good Gofers has a very deep ball trail worn into the clear coat. It cleaned up nicely but it required some heavy rubbing. 15+ years of play with no maintenance is what you see in the original photo.

I know there's two sides to the Novus debate. I don't think a half hour of rubbing out some dirt would do that much damage to the playfield, would it? Did I just kill my machine?

#2187 7 years ago
Quoted from UvulaBob:

No, that's fine. If you did it regularly you might have issues though.

#2188 7 years ago

I agree. I don't think you'll do any damage. In my case there was more wear from the ball being launched for 15+ years than the amount of damage I did with the Novus 2. You could feel the dip from the ball trail. No artwork was removed in my case. In your case I doubt there's any significant ball trail wear on your playfield.

I think people just need to be aware of what Novus is. That's my $0.02.

#2189 7 years ago

I use Novus 1 or CP-100 to clean playfields on route about twice a month. Every 6 to 8 months the machines get a topside shop with new rubbers and a deep cleaning. During this cleaning some areas require Novus 2.

#2190 7 years ago

Look at things in context, not absolutes.

That game needed Novus 2.
He wanted to clean it quickly, sell it quickly, and it was routed machine, not a collector's dream machine.
You get faster results with Novus 2 over Simple Green.
It is not going to destroy playfields overnight.
Novus is not "Goof Off" on playfields.
(BTW, if you want to see what it does to plastics, take a junk one, and test it. Watch the plastic melt, ink bleed, and feel the heat on the acrylic.)

Most high end restoration cleaners are a combination of Novus and several other solvent products together.
They only need to use it once with a power drill to get proper results.

I don't think I have used Novus 3 in a long time, except maybe on a D1M playfield that was filthy, but it has uses even on metal parts.
Using Novus 3 on D1M gives a great base cleaning, before smoothing it down and polishing.
Novus 3 on plastics can be pretty harsh on old games, if scrubbed, and is not recommended.
Novus 1 is perfectly fine and non abrasive on machines for any purpose, all the time.

You just need to know what conditions to use different cleaners, just like different waxes on different types of playfield coatings.
People used to "Johnson's Floor Wax" on Tuffcoat pinball playfields for years during the age of shuffle bowlers before the age of clear coats and worked fine as well.
There was no such thing as the current additive car carnauba waxes during that period, and pure hard wax was a nightmare to remove and highly resistive to buffing causing potential paint removal, and can yellow over time if not used properly.
Most of the waxes back then were wood furniture polishes, if you did not know what to look for in terms of composition.
I don't recommend that on modern games.

"Happiness is a clean pinball machine."
Clean machine = more money and faster sale (related to the NW Buyer-Seller thread)
This is basic sales theory, which is part of this thread, to help buyers AND sellers.

If you have time, a new rubber ring kit will boost its sales potential as well, in terms of personal time expended.
