Quoted from guyincognito:

Pabst sounds like a beer that hipsters like Kaneda would drink.

I don't think even kaneda would drink pabst.. Too cheap for his taste even if it is the hipster go-to beer.

I agree with former post -- these were not made with intention of selling a bunch to collectors. For pabst company, and some might be to route them.. Perhaps a large discount to people agreeing to route them? I could see them giving away as prizes or to proven bars in certain towns

This.
Breweries do a lot of wholesale promotions with bars, especially the big chains.
You may well find they run something like "order X amount of Pabst over 6 months, and you get a free pinball machine" or something like that.
Or "order X amount of Pabst over 3 months and run Y promotion successfully and get the machine for $2000"
That sort of thing.
rd

Yeah I think you nailed it RD -- that makes a lot of sense, cutting out the operators and giving them directly to the bars. The flip-side to this is that a # of bars may not have any other machines and the not realize they are going to need regular maintenance. Thus they work great until they start to fall apart, and half of them will just be turned off because the bar doesn't want to / gets tired of having to pay someone to fix them. Then the few nice examples left become collectors items in 5 - 10 years.

I don't think anybody around here really knows what a "hipster" is.
Hint: not super corporate dudes who live in a condo on the Upper East Side and dress preppie.
Seriously guys- not everybody under 50 is a "hipster."
Think grungier. More tattoos. More facial hair. Live in Brooklyn. Funkier clothes. Guys who don't work for ad agencies.
Just trying to help keep you dad types from Embarrasing yourselves in fromt of your kids.

hahaha point taken but "hipster" is a very broad-reaching term, it's not just what you describe in my opinion and can apply differently to different generations. 20-something hipsters, I agree with your description. Less $$, many are scraping by. Hit the late 20's to 30-something crowd and suddenly a lot of them have $$ and things are a bit different.. yet still very hipsterish, very into trends and over-priced cool-looking shit. Not that any of that's bad.. but I think it all fits within the loose "definition"/concept.

Quoted from PunkPin:

wouldnt this make the bar owner have to get a gaming license and pay the taxes in order to be able to set it up for play in the bar?

Prob depends on city/state regs. In Seattle I believe you can have 3 routing without a license.
