I have bought a couple boards from ark on here. Problem is when I plug them in I get a awe full smell. It’s a weird smell. It it because of different voltages? Is there anything I can do to get rid of the smells? Thanks.

It’s when the boards get hot. Like the resistors have a weird smell to them. It’s on 2 different boards. A Data East MPU and a Pinball 2000 driver board.

Look closely, are any of the capacitors bulging or leaking?

The power difference doesn't matter once it gets to the boards. They all run on the same voltage at the board level.

The potting material used on some parts can be stinky. I have had the metal oxide resistors, the usually blue colored ones, smell bad when they first heat up. For a while I'd use 27ohm 5w in WMS lamp column drivers base current limiter and they would stink / gas off the first few while after getting hot.
