Why did you go with a sliding patio door for your main entry ?

Large enough for pins and best way of keeping weather out.

As long as she doesn't toss your bed through the door, you will be fine.

Millionaire is actually a pretty interesting pin. I'm surprised none of the mechanisms on it have been repurposed in modern games.

    #218 5 years ago

Electrician is not coming back until next weekend so now he has some obstacles to contend with.

    Quoted from Whysnow:

The wiring/boxes are there, they're just behind the drywall. Just have to pop holes to expose them and finish up.

If you’re using flouros, positioning is critical, or the glare will really piss you off. There’s a couple of games rooms we hold comps in, we have to pull tubes out when we are playing.

I’m guessing you’ve done a plan of where all the pins are going?

You want the lighting in the walkways.

All sounds obvious (and you well may have done it) but surprising how many people get it badly wrong.

I’d say lighting would be the #1 aspect to get right in a game room.

    For others reference:

When I did mine, I had it all planned out - installed a heap of halogen downlights in the walkways so they didn’t glare on the games.

    Which worked well.

However, if you needed to repair a game, you needed someone to hold a torch cause it was so dark.

So I added more halogens, these ones were 4x G10 spotlight fittings, these really helped. And you could adjust the bulbs to aim the light where you needed it.

But the biggest change was when I installed 120 degree LED bulbs (and transformers) in all of the fittings. Sooooo much better. Normal halogens have 50 degree spread. 120 throws out so much more light.

So, the takeaway for you guys planning your room - plan it carefully, lots of thought on where your games will sit, and how you’re going to light them up.

You can see in this photo (taken at night) that there is little light shining directly on the glass. Actually, with these rooms they are always like night ... because the pins block all the windows. My room has 2x 3metre wide sliding doors which do let in some daylight - but the pins block the light from all the other windows. Probably why I have a vitamin D deficiency. Haha!

    Thanks Rd,
Was more looking to equalize the light in the room when I planned it but they should be very close to the walkways.
