So, i've been pretty much out of room for a while. Mostly concentrating on acquiring, fixing and restoring pinball and arcade games but not really being able to play them. Aside from the 12-15 games in the garage that is. My "shop" is packed with finished games, parts, projects, tools, machinery, supplies etc. with just enough room to work on stuff.

But now i want to PLAY the games, so i went ahead and started putting up a steel building for the overflow. It's almost done but i have a few things to wrap up still.

Step 4

Erect the structure. Went with a 1500 sq ft steel building. Only took 2 days to install.

It was the day after a rain storm so it was a messy operation. I didn't want to wait another 5 weeks though.
Took forever to clean out all the mud later.

Seal it up. Sealed every crack and crevice to keep out the critters.

Insulation! It gets super hot here in the summer and surprisingly cold in the winter (for So Cal)

Still to do:

Finish insulation, seal up around roll top door, install solar attic fan, wire up electrical and lights, install alarm.

My budget was $30K. I think i'm approaching that.

Excavation was about $3K
Concrete pad was about $4k
Building was about $16,000 installed
Insulation $2300
Tree trimming was $2000 but that had to be done anyway.

I looked into getting an actual building but that was over $100,000.00

I've been collecting and restoring since about 2010. I started a couple tech businesses. I also invested some time and $ into a couple of friends companies that did well. My background is in graphic arts.

Here's the secret... do some work for a company that looks like its going somewhere. But don't ask for money, do it for a small piece of the action instead. Yes, its risky, but...

Looks awesome. I'm just super jealous of the yard. Where I live we basically have 10 feet between houses and about 15 feet in the back yard I rent an enclosed storage unit as my shop to work on cars and other odds and ends but it's not climate controlled so no pinball there.

This reminds me of Parkinson's law: The adage that "work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion".
The same thing can be applied to a game collection. Whatever space you have will inevitably get filled and more expansion will be needed.
Unless you put a cap on the size...

I have a garage built like your building what did you use to hold the insulation sheets up from falling down/off of the walls and ceiling?

I have always thought about insulation for my garage.

It is of course awesome, and thanks for posting the budget. I did some looking at these steel buildings and I was wondering how they would compare cost-wise to a typical wood structure. So, $100k for a typical stick-built barn thingie of the same size? Sheesh that is 3X the cost, I didn't realize it would be so much. This looks like a good way to go.
