    Quoted from rotordave:

If you go to any mainstream movie and expect anything ultra deep then you will always come away disappointed.

I go to the movies almost every week. Its my mental Escape for the week. I see a lot of mainstream movies, and also a lot of "boutique" movies as well which are often boring wankfests for elitist movie snobs.

Movies are what they are. While this movie is hardly the best movie ever made (and far from it) it was full of action, had a half way decent script, and had awesome special effects. And an awful lot of lens flare to boot.

I fear that if you go to the movies expecting everything to be a classic, you are in for a life of disappointments. No different from pinball machines ... I tend to find the positive points in machines rather than dwelling on negatives and thus enjoy almost every machine. Except late model Gottliebs :lol

I didn't expect it to be ultra deep at all, it is a popcorn film. It's just not that good.
I am not a movie snob at all, quite the opposite. I worked in cinemas for over 20 years and enjoy all forms of movies and hardly expect anything to be a classic. Movies are like pins for me too, some are great and some are just ordinary.
I do agree on the effects, they were outstanding.

A remake can be good if it sticks to the source material better than the original movie, but only if the source material was actually better than the movie. In this case the original Total Recall movie took some creative liberties to fill out the plot, so they actually went to Mars. In the remake they stuck to the original material, but because it was based on a short story they had to fill out the original with action scenes. The end result is one long action scene with a touch of plot.

To give you an idea, the best actor in the movie was Kate Beckinsale, who played the fake wife (Sharon Stone's character), but instead of only having two short scenes before being killed off, she's more like the T-1000 in Terminator 2 in hot pursuit the entire movie. It's worth a gander if bored but not something to pursue... the original has much more character.

Started off decent but after the 3rd ( out of about 8 ) chase scenes, it got old.

Only good part was zero g gunplay.

9 out of 10 on the blowometer.
