I finished my 1957 Williams Cross Fire gun game.
    Added digital sound option.
Plays cowboy theme in background ( Clint Eastwood good ,bad and ugly theme) and each target triggers a different sound. Bells still work at the flip of a switch if you are old school.
All scenery was removed and cut out of birch plywood and then airbrushed and brush painted to match what existed originally.
Stripped black paint off rifle ( Marlin 100 22 caliper rifle) and re-blued barrel.
Made white oak frame around back glass to match original.
Re painted cabinet to match original.

    Thank you !

The black relay assembly in the middle is the sound board.
I used a WAV trigger board ( Red PCB at top left of black sound board) and the banks of relays are the way I used the 50v pulse from the machine to close contacts and trigger the sounds.
Also on the board I added a counter.
For most of the sounds, I wired 2 wires from each original solenoid for the target to the coil on the ice cube relay. Then I connected the switch contact for each sound on the normally open contacts of the relay. When the target is "hit" the coil on the target gets 50 volts to make it drop. That same 50v closes my relay and makes the contacts to activate the corresponding sound.

I bought a air powered drywall popcorn sprayer from Harbor Freight for $26.
It came with 3 or 4 different size spray nozzles.
    I used the smallest nozzle.
I used straight latex paint and varied the air pressure and distance and sprayed cardboard. The paint spits out of the gun.
I got everything where I wanted it and I wrote all of the particulars down.

I had the lighter green mixed at Aubuchon.
I rolled the entire cabinet with the lighter green.
    I sprayed the white. (speckle)
I also sprayed the lighter green over the white to get the exact look I wanted. (speckle)
The I added a darker green that I had from another machine to the lighter green in a second can. I wanted it to be similar but darker . Not a lot darker but enough to be different.
I sprayed the darker green as a "toner". (speckle)
With some planning and some practice it is done in a weekend.

    Quoted from way2wyrd:

My Vanguard has the similar green with white specks paint

    Jeff,
I was looking for Vanguard and only found one advertisement for it.
Where are the balls that you are shooting?
It looks like a traditional gun set up with the "wiper" contact arm below.
Do you shoot targets to launch the balls ?
    Cliff

    #672 7 years ago

    thats cool.
I am thinking it launches the balls at start-up and you play the hand you are dealt.
Plenty of options but it really requires some luck as well.
    Cool game.

    Quoted from Deluxodave:

    "Apollo moon shot" EM game?

    That game looks cool.

Maybe you could remove the paint with Xylene and the original art would be underneath.
Then you could make new stencils.

    Quoted from embryonjohn:

    Any guns for sale

Most of the rifles on em gun games are real rifles.
On the game I have the stock and barrel are a Marlin model 100 .22 cal. It includes the firing pin assembly and the sight.
If you can figure out what CC used on that game your options of buying something that fits become more varied.

    #705 7 years ago
    Quoted from embryonjohn:

The gearbox on the main target makes one hell of a racket.

Is it open gear or closed gear ?

On my Cross Fire I packed it with grease thru openings in the case. (closed)

See "old Tom cat" e-bay store online. He is selling lots of NOS gear boxes and drives.

i also believe that most were 115v coils

    My Williams CrossFire is 120v.
Right now I am in Mass and the game and the drawing are in Maine..
I am sure you will have this figured out long before I get back there.

I blued the rifle on my Crossfire.
I bought bluing from some gun website where I purchased a new site for the barrel.
The rifle on my game was a marlin 100 22 cal.
I followed the directions to the letter and was very pleased.

    No way!
    I have a cross fire I restored!
    Yours Looks excellent.
Bgresto has back glass and scoring marquis for inside.
If you order the glass from him be warned it is one inch too short.

    #826 6 years ago

SEE POST #660 in this thread to see the Cross Fire I restored a little more than a year ago.

    #829 6 years ago

The quick answer is that I made a piece of oak to fill the void at the bottom. The one in the picture is the 2 piece 1/2 glass.

I asked Steve to make the glass and explained that it must have been broken at some time so the glass with the stenciling was 1/2 of my back glass and a piece of plate glass was added to make up the difference. I told him I wanted a 1 piece glass and was going to send both pieces. He said to just send the part with the printing. When he made the first glass 9 months later he ignored that and only made the stenciled half.

I contacted him and told him that he had only made 1/2 the glass. I told him I would pay him to make it again but the full size. We discussed it and I sent a picture with 2 tape measures showing the dimensions. He acknowledged the measurements and a few months later made the glass. When it arrived it was an inch short. I checked all of my correspondences and his replies. The measurements in discussion were correct but the glass was an inch short.
He is a great guy and where else was I going to get a glass for this game. So I made a piece of oak that matches the frame and used it to fill the void. Unless you own the game or I told you, it is impossible to tell and the glass is beautiful.

    My Kangaroo was also slow.
I forced in some super lube synthetic grease and it works well now.
I also struggled with the idea of opening that case up.
I cannot remember what the deciding factor was .

Also, There is another member here on Pinside in Michigan who owns a Crossfire.
He sent me pictures of scenery and targets I was missing so I could make them.

I am going to look at a working Chicago Coin Twin rifle game.
What is the going rate on these?

    #845 5 years ago

I bought the CC Twin Rifle.
I will pick it up next week and post some pics.
When that one comes in I will have to sell my 1956 CrossFire as I am out of space. SEE POST 660 in this thread.
I will post in marketplace next week.

Before I make one, does anyone have a source for the stylus contact ?

I also picked up a working SAMI at Allentown.
I had to do some tweaking and find the correct trigger button.
I am also refurbishing the sound board. It worked but needed caps and pots.

    As I mentioned above.
I will be forced to sell my 1956 Crossfire that I restored a couple of years ago.

Yeah, I saw the holes for the spares as well as the label saying the spares go there. Unfortunately they have already been used.

    #856 5 years ago

    Wow , great collection.

    2 weeks later
    #869 5 years ago

The sound boards on these early games are generally easy to work on.
Figuring out what parts are actually on the boards can be difficult to figure out.
Some have discreet part numbers on them.
I usually change the caps , the pots and the carbon resistors.
Another manufacturer of boards was allied leisure.
Schematics are nearly impossible to find.

    #873 5 years ago

On my twin rifle game there are 2 allen head screws , one goes down thru the bolt at the top and the other comes up from the stock the metal base.

Tank on midway aliens from outer space is likely leftovers from 1969 midway Sami.

    #919 5 years ago

I own Sami. The tank is barely visible but the missile on it is lighted.
I also think the black lights wear down and are not as bright as new

    #921 5 years ago

Where is it in the game?

    #923 5 years ago

That looks similar to what is in Sami but working from memory here.
    It looks salvageable.

    #924 5 years ago

I got a manual with the game and I think there might be one online at arcade archives.

    #928 5 years ago

I have used the wave trigger board. It worked ok but I had ghost trips due to the unclean power in the em.

I have owned their pinball machines and they are fun but simple. They certainly did not focus on pinball.
Their arcade games are always fun and clever. I currently own a twin rifle and it is a ton of fun.

It looks like the spring and band assembly is supposed to be attached to the recoil?

The clamp with the wing nut is likely there for calibrating the aim ( dialing in the targets). You lock the rifle down while sighting a target, then make sure the stylus is on the correct contact on the bakolite sheet.

    #1009 4 years ago

It looks like the recoil needs something to pull it back out of the coil. That would be the band and the spring.
The second spring hanging from the brass hook does not look original. I cannot imagine that hook was in there when it was made. It is the wrong material and lacks the strength engineered into these games when they were new.

What year was that game made?

    #1010 4 years ago

I looked at some pictures from my 1956 Crossfire. I have pictures of the gun shaft below the deck but never took any pics of the recoil.

    1 year later
    #1149 3 years ago

Playing them also keeps the switch contacts clean.
I had a 1956 Wiiliams Crossfire and 1971 CC twin Rifle.
They are a lot of fun but do get old quick. Always get a lot of play when people come over.
