Superbowl overtime rules are awful. Why is it different from the regular season?

I don't like either team, but as a casual fan watching the games yesterday I could not believe the amount of holding NE was getting away with during the second half, both on the offensive line and DB's. There was one really bad on the offensive line where it looked like the NE OL was bearhugging him from behind to keep him from reaching Brady, lol. It also felt weird that during the broadcast that when the Jag's would fail on third down and it looked like there was interference/holding they'd never show a replay, but every Jag one they were replaying multiple times, lol. I won a bet on the NE game, my son said the Jags have this in the bag (when it was 20 to 10 Jags) and I told him that NE will magically pull it out and win 24-20. Then I got to watch him squirm as the Jags got penalty after penalty and melted down, lol. The game felt predetermined, it was really odd to watch.

The Eagles have no chance in the Super Bowl unless somebody has the game of their life.

The lions are self destructing. 49ers aren't even doing anything, the Lions can't catch a pass, can't down a ball, fumbling, not taking the FG, etc.

Why in the world wouldn't you take that second fg to at least tie the game? Seriously Detroit is just being dumb when there's only 6 minutes left in game.
