We're back!

After a disaster in our datacenter took down our server, we are now running Pinside on a brand new server. However, things may not work as expected as we are still polishing the playfield and adjusting some switches! We might be switching to maintenance mode a few times. Hoping for another magical run like 2007 and 2011

I'm still waiting for one like "72-73".

Quoted from davewtf:

re you saying that banner is going to look the same after this season?

Same as it ever was.

#114 7 years ago
Quoted from kwiKimart:

Each team has a 1/32 chance........

Yeah we did the math last night. And the team that has the best chance is
probably never your team. And that is just the way it IS. Take my teams, yes I said teams. Two of the historically better teams that have made the playoffs numerous times in the last several decades. With your math I should get a ring every 16 years. But nooooooo....., and I don't expect one this year, next year, or the following year. My teams, The Chargers and The Dolphins, haven't won a title in 40 years, and the only one for the Chargers is 50 years, and that was before the merger!

#118 7 years ago

But when they play each other it is always epic! The only team I root for anymore is the team that takes down the last undefeated team of the season. That is the only way dignity can be spared for my choice of teams. Oh yeah, and anybody playing the Cowboys.

#121 7 years ago

I'm not a real big fan of the 9rs either.

#126 7 years ago

There is hope!

#135 7 years ago
Quoted from PorkChopExpress:

Second, Never too early to drag fins fans down. Ha Ha Ha

Your right about one thing though. The fins have always had the hottest cheerleaders.
Second to none.

#142 7 years ago

Well, even if the play on the field sucks, there is always the sideline.

#174 7 years ago
Quoted from DB62:

The Packers have won 13 world championships, which is wayyyyyy more than any other team! You can't just count Super Bowls ... After all, even now when you win a Super Bowl, you are still also refered to as "World Champions"! That is why we are known as Titletown USA!

Shame they never went un-defeated and reached perfection.

Went to tonight's preseason match between my Bolts and the 9ers,

Does history keep repeating itself or what.

Quoted from trilogybeer:

The good news for my favorite team is that their punter can tackle very well ,

I remember when Matt Turk was the punter for the Dolphins. It seems he made all their tackles.

#220 7 years ago

I have more faith in Todd than either of those guys.

#222 7 years ago
Quoted from Pinball-is-great:

Dolphins at Browns, even point spread, Let's see which team really wants to start out with a win.

Don't matter, they always end up losers.

Quoted from Pinball-is-great:

Come on o-din,
put a smile on your face.

OK, I'm smiling! My two year contract with DirecTV just ended, so I called them to re-negotiate, and I got a one year deal at the promo price with free Sunday Ticket, and I will be able to do the same thing again next year.

#244 7 years ago

No Ray Lewis= no win.

#248 7 years ago

I can't wait to watch the Giants spank the Cowboys again.

Kickoff! Love sundays this time of year! Go Bengals!

Fins D is looking good! 3 picks so far, now they need to capitalize!

#274 7 years ago
Quoted from centerflank:

You realize you are playing the Browns, right?

Yeah, and the Browns are now winning.

#276 7 years ago

Fins taking charge! Sunday ticket rules!

#297 7 years ago

Well, it was only game one and it was only the Browns, but the fish looked more solid than I have seen them on opening day in years. And now they have a solid quarterback in Tannehill. Lets see if the Chargers can step up to the plate, too. This ones going to be tough.

#309 7 years ago

So far, it's been a great opening day!

#315 7 years ago

OK, what's the over/under on the Chargers-Texans game?
Never mind- thats tomorrow. Hell, I lose track of time.

#355 7 years ago

It's been a good weekend of football so far.

#356 7 years ago

Until now.

#359 7 years ago
Quoted from kwiKimart:

Week 2: who do you got?

I've got sausage and cheese over eggs.

#363 7 years ago

Since I've had a few, I'd be willing to bet that the Chargers are still tired after the third quarter of last game, so there isn't a chance in hell that they will win tomorrow, but the Dolphins on the other hand looked fresh, so they just might pull off the upset over the Colts.

#365 7 years ago

Sometimes I used to regret spending beautiful sunny southern Calfornia fall days on the couch watching football all day just to see my teams choke at the last minute. But not today, especially after finding myself in the Lazyboy at 5 am with Metallica on still playing One in between balls, and an unfinished bevvy beside me. What the hell happened?

#371 7 years ago
Quoted from Pin-it:

Its called the Good life!

I went outside and worked the soil anyway. Time to plant! Chargers are putting up a pretty good lead, the question is can they hold it. My fish are fighting strong.

turnovers killed em.

Usually the case in any game. Especially with my teams.

#384 7 years ago
Quoted from jarjarisgod:

Oh, and the Fish won too!

I watched that game and their offensive play selection is right on the money. Even after loosing yards, they are dialing up the right plays and Tannehill is executing. 2-0 on the road!

#388 7 years ago

The Seahawks are definitely a contender. Wouldn't be surprised if they go deeeep into the playoffs.

#391 7 years ago
Quoted from Pinball-is-great:

Both the Dolphins and the Chargers won their week #2 games,

I believe after what I have seen that the Dolphins have a good chance of taking the East. But the Chargers still have a lot to prove. That and they have to play Denver twice.

Chargers are hanging tough in a hostile environment, and the fish get to test their metal agains the Falcons this afternoon. We'll know by the end of the day if theses teams are actual contenders or just pretenders.

#428 7 years ago

At least the Chargers added a little comedy in their defeat.

#432 7 years ago

Tough game, but the fins are keeping it close.

#436 7 years ago

#491 7 years ago
Quoted from Pinball-is-great:

Note: Both the Saints and Dolphins are 3 - 0, and they play on MNF tomorrow night.
So, one of those two teams will join the 4 - 0 winners group.

I'm not holding my breath, are you?

#492 7 years ago

It looks like I'm not the only one getting excited about tonight's game. Dolphins-Fan.jpg

#495 7 years ago

Ughhhhhh........, well back to the drawing board.

#502 7 years ago
Quoted from Pinball-is-great:

Let's see if Dolphins are actually a team determined to make the play-offs.

Even though the wheels fell off pretty early Monday, they still showed a lot of determination throughout that game. Luckily each game starts with a 0-0 score. If they are for real, they will bounce back. 3-1 is still a pretty good start, but they are yet to play a divisional opponent.

#513 7 years ago

#523 7 years ago

Well after watching the end of the Broncos- Cowboys game yesterday, I didn't feel so bad about the failed comeback attempts by the Dolphins and the Chargers yesterday. There is always that one guy that can throw the ball up for grabs and put my teams losses into perspective.

#525 7 years ago
Quoted from centerflank:

Oh man, loving those 2 teams is going to put you in the grave 25 years early buddy.

40 years too late! I became a Dolphins fan when I was 10 in 1972 while staying with some relatives in Fort Lauderdale. I then became a Chargers fan during "the epic in Miami" playoff game in 1982. Still the greatest game I've ever seen. Both teams left everything on the field that day. Too late to turn back now. But I do have a few teams I like to see lose. That keeps me a fan.

#529 7 years ago
Quoted from jesster64:

was that marino vs fouts, also one of the greatest games I ever saw?

It started out as Woodley vs. Fouts, but when the score was 24-0 in the first quarter Shula pulled Woodley and put in Don Strock. That's when the fireworks began. This infamous play made it a one score game going into halftime.

#530 7 years ago
Quoted from centerflank:

How can your 2 fav teams be in the same conference? Its not allowed,

I left eveyrthing on the field too that day, and to the victor went the spoils. I take the Chargers everytime they play each other (they are the local team after all), but I can't seem to shed my enthusiasm for Miami, even after all these years. So there you have it. Plus they did something that nobody else has ever done. And we all know what that was.

Time to talk about the BIG game this weekend. Dolphins at the Patriots. I've said enough.

#766 7 years ago

Yeah, after yesterday's flounder, even I am rooting for the lambs.

#781 7 years ago

As I mentioned earlier, my two teams of choice have moments of greatness, but usually become losers in the end. At one time the Bengals would have been a cakewalk for either of them, but I expect the usual ending for the Dolphins tonight. I will watch anyway.

#783 7 years ago
Quoted from Pinball-is-great:

But when and if that moment of greatness arrives, just like the great pumpkin, I will rise to the occasion.

#786 7 years ago
Quoted from Pinball-is-great:

Unfortunately, upon looking at their schedules, both teams seem destined for another mediocre season, possibly both finishing around 8 - 8, and both just barely missing the play-offs.

Better than 1-15.

I always take the Chargers when they go head to head, unless it is late in the season and a playoff berth is at stake. In this case, I may just take the day off.

So I go to watch the Chargers game and it is not on. I assume it has been blacked out and start to get pissed. Then I realize it is a road game. Who forgot to tell me to turn my clock back last night?

#804 7 years ago

A bit early for that. If I would have to pick right now I would say The Seahawks.

I picked the Seahawks and Broncos in a very good Super Bowl early in the season, and that's what I'm sticking with. It now looks like Miami has a better chance to make the playoffs than the Chargers, but if they don't sure up the offensive line, it will be an early exit if they even get there.

Hey I just tuned in to the Broncos vs Pats game.

#977 7 years ago

Today I'm a little embarrassed I'm a Seahawk's fan after the latest suspensions of Browner and Thurmond.

Not sure what substance they got banned for, but Is it still considered substance abuse to smoke ganja in a state where it is now legal?

#979 7 years ago

I'm guessing that since it is the league that decides what substances are banned, they wouldn't make exceptions based on local law, just like the feds don't.
Meanwhile the Chargers pulled off a great win in KC, but KC has a history of great starts and fading at the end of the year. With four home games left, and playing like they are, the Chargers playoff hopes are alive and well. Go Bolts!

#981 7 years ago
Quoted from Kcpinballfan:

I dont know where you came up with that about KC.

2003-Started 11-1, finished 13-4, including a loss in their only playoff game. 1999- Started 9-5, finished 9-7. 1996- Started 9-4, finished 9-7.1995 Started 10-1, finished 13-4 including a loss in their only playoff game.1994- Started 6-3, finished 9-7

Shall I continue?

But indeed they have also had some lousy starts with decent endings.

#984 7 years ago
Quoted from o-din:

but KC has a history of great starts and fading at the end of the year.

This is what I said. History. I've seen 10-1s and 11-1s go right down the tubes.

#989 7 years ago
Quoted from centerflank:

what does the temp matter,

More fire for the bratwursts in the parking lot?

#998 7 years ago
Quoted from Monarca1091:

I totally agree ....Seahawks haven't faced any good teams this season

I will have to disagree. Carolina is a very good team. San Francisco, Indy, and Arizona are also good teams with winning records. All four of these are playoff contenders. You don't get to the playoffs or have a winning record if you are not a good team.

#1000 7 years ago

Using that same "good teams" logic, one could argue that the Saints haven't beaten any "good teams" this year, and in fact have been beat by an average team at best.
So you end up with two teams with two of the best records in the league that haven't proved anything yet, because they haven't beaten any good teams.
And to the winner goes the spoils of the better team that is yet to beat any good teams.

#1003 7 years ago
Quoted from Pinball-is-great:

So like the year the Dolphins went undefeated and won the Super Bowl the deal is that there were no good teams that year except the Dolphins.

If the "no good teams" logic is used, why yes. Except then you could argue that there never were any good teams period. But I prefer to think that any team this far into the season with one or two losses is a good team, regardless of who they have played or beat.

#1005 7 years ago

In the end there can be only one.

#1007 7 years ago
Quoted from Pinball-is-great:

Better to let them heal up and be ready for the play-offs.

This can be a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. You don't want players to get hurt, but If you have already secured a bye week, and you keep key players out for more weeks, they can show up rusty when the playoffs start, and by the time they get in rhythm the most important game of the season may already be slipping away. We have seen this a lot recently as wildcard teams have gone on to take the title.

A few years back, Tom Coughlin decided not to rest his Giants in a "meaningless" end of season game against the Patriots. Sure they lost, but they burned through the playoffs and were well prepared when they met the Pats again in the big game. We all know how that turned out.

#1011 7 years ago
#1019 7 years ago
Quoted from Asylum:

One man doesn't make a team

So true. The year the fish went unbeaten, they went without their starting QB for most of the season. How great a team that really was.
There used to be a time when having a good, well prepared back-up QB was as important as having a great starter. Starter goes down, season goes on.

#1022 7 years ago
Quoted from centerflank:

Or how crappy their competition was, didnt you just have about 15 posts trying to prove that theory?

Not really. I was trying to point out that saying a team that was 10-1 only because they hadn't played any good teams yet was ludacris. I don't believe that at all. A win is a win in this league, and the playoffs will sort out the contenders from the pretenders.

#1024 7 years ago
Quoted from centerflank:

Dont even get me started on that weak ass 14 game regular season schedule Its like winning the championship of a 8team fantasy fball league.

A 14 game season may not have been as taxing as todays 16, but the team they beat in the championship was no pushover back then, and unlike today, there was no mid-season or end of season bye weeks and no home field advantage for having the best record in the league.

#1031 7 years ago
Quoted from Pinball-is-great:

#1037 7 years ago
Quoted from centerflank:

Am I the only one who misses the Oilers? Ill never forget that playoff game Warren Moon lit up the Bills first half and Frank Reich plundered the Oilers D to complete the comeback

That was a great game. And Earl Campbell was a great back in his day.

#1041 7 years ago
Quoted from jesster64:

God I miss Dan Fouts and air coryell. Especially when they played the dolphins with marino

I also remember one epic game between the Chargers and the Niners where Fouts and Montana really aired it out. You would also have to add Plunkett's Raiders into the mix for great games between all these teams of that era.

#1043 7 years ago
Quoted from jesster64:

remember jeff george?

That guy was super tough. I never saw any QB take the beating that he did.

#1053 7 years ago
Quoted from jesster64:

jeez washington stinks. WR's who can't catch.

Some of those balls, although located properly, just didn't seem to have the touch on them that would make them easily handled. Receivers get paid the big money to catch those balls, but QBs make the bigger money to make them more catchable.

#1055 7 years ago
Quoted from Monarca1091:

This team is unstoppable

I've heard that before.lol.

#1058 7 years ago
Quoted from LOTR_breath:

But even more telling will be the 2 match-ups in the next 3 weeks between Saints-Panthers.

Telling of what? Which team might get the honor of going back to Seattle during the playoffs? From what I've seen tonight, maybe Monarca was right. They haven't really faced any good teams. Or maybe there just aren't any teams as good as Seattle.

I look forward to the rematch between the Panthers and the Hawks.

get your popcorn ready!! Seattle is a great team, especially at home. That being said, go Saints!!

Now that the BIG game of the week is behind us, I thought I might mention that with the fins dominating victory in New York on Sunday, they now have the same record as the Ravens, that is good enough for the last playoff spot in the AFC. However, Baltimore still holds the tie-breaker, having beaten the fish earlier this year. Even if the Dolphins don't make the playoffs, they are a much improved team with great leadership, a good defense, and solid play at the quarterback position.

Quoted from Erik:

Do you think Tannehill is a franchise QB?

From what I've seen this year, he is a winner. His throws are accurate, his decisions are good and he is mobile. He also has a great attitude. He fits in very well in a team that is being designed as a balanced unit. They had a guy not too long ago that was considered one of the greatest, and I will agree, but it doesn't do much for balance. You win a lot of games, then get to the playoffs, then he can't carry the team. It rarely works.

if miami can get past pit, I will become a believer.

I may also.

#1087 7 years ago

of course the likely hood of Stern or JJ ever doing so is the same as the stingy Giants to adding a cheerleading squad ...slim to none

Until then................

#1090 7 years ago

Interesting point made by the announcers after last nights game. The Jaguars now have the longest current winning streak in the AFC. Another interesting point- weren't the Texans one of the favorites to go to the Super Bowl this year?

#1097 7 years ago
Quoted from jesster64:

They're going to have to do some thing about tv time

I don't know if you guys ever noticed this, but commercial breaks can be so long that sometimes they don't even show kickoffs. I've even missed seeing field goal attempts on occasion, and not because I left my seat.

Big win for the Dolphins in Pittsburg. Tannehill played another great game considering it was the first time he had ever played in the snow. And the rest of the team stepped up in a must win to keep their playoff hopes alive. As far as that last play by the Steelers, it was a great effort, but even if he hadn't stepped out of bounds, I believe there was a forward lateral involved, so it probably wouldn't have mattered. But you never know.

#1118 7 years ago

I didn't figure I'd see any Browns fans chiming in on how they got robbed by that pass interference call at the end of the game. They have more class than that. That and they are used to it.

#1123 7 years ago
Quoted from Monarca1091:

No team can stop the patriots this year !!!

Maybe they just need to play someone worse than the Browns.

#1128 7 years ago
Quoted from RobT:

They just lost Gronk

That's going to hurt.

That and the fact they have been running on fumes all season, and are barely beating teams that are barely winning. They may end up with a great record, but the playoffs will expose any weaknesses they may have.

#1130 7 years ago

Great teams always over come the loss of a single player. We'll see.

#1141 7 years ago
Quoted from tilt-master:

They've already proven they can overcome the loss of MANY great players.

They have also proven that they can come back from being down by a shitload of points. The problem I see with them is how they get down by a shitload of points on almost a weekly basis. That won't fly in the playoffs.

No complaining there! They were just pissed that they had to drink their beer out of a plastic bottle.

#1149 7 years ago
Quoted from tilt-master:

If gronk is out, I'd love to see the patriots pick up Dave Thomas.

At least they won't go hungry.

#1154 7 years ago
Quoted from RWH:

Damn right and the Bengals have lost one of, if not the best, interior defensive lineman in football (Geno Atkins) on top of losing one of the top five corners (Leon Hall) in the league and they continue to be one of the Best defenses in the league!

You know, if the Bengals can keep it up and get a good head of steam going into the playoffs, then they have as good a chance as anybody, and I for one would support them. It's always good to see a team rise from the ashes and knock off the usual suspects. I guess if somehow Miami can get there too, then all the better. They were left with a big hole in their offensive line a few weeks ago, and the kind of situation that might tear a team apart, but they have banded together and are on somewhat of a roll.

#1160 7 years ago

Jerry Jones and Daniel Snyder should have lunch sometime.

#1165 7 years ago
Quoted from Pinball-is-great:

Hard to say who will get the 2nd AFC wildcard spot.

As long as the Ravens don't win out, hope springs eternal.

#1167 7 years ago
Quoted from tilt-master:

Seeing that the Fins will probably beat the Patriots this week, I'd say their chances remain decent.

You actually believe that, don't you.

#1169 7 years ago
Quoted from tilt-master:

All Miami needs to do is ball control, get a few big plays and don't turn it over. They are pretty capable of doing that.

Well, I sure hope that's the game plan. If they do pull it off and beat the Patriots, and after watching the Chargers dominate the Broncos in Denver tonight, then who really does have the best chance in the AFC to represent? Hell, it might even end up being the Bengals. The NFC is also looking to go down to the wire. Whatever happens, this should be an exciting finish to the season.

#1173 7 years ago
Quoted from RobT:

Will the real Chargers please raise their hands?!

I believe they just did.

#1175 7 years ago

I like the way they took every second off the clock on every play. If they hadn't things might have turned out diferently. But it is a good strategy against any pass happy team.

#1180 7 years ago
Quoted from jesster64:

gronk loss was huge. plus I think NE is spent from that come from behind win last week. Miami's win over pitt must have given them some confidence. also edelman is out and the game is in miami.

How bout we save the excuses until after the game. Miami has also lost key players this year. There have been many times where the fins have been poised for an upset, but it doesn't always happen. My opinion is that they are a team on the way up, but they still have a few bridges to cross.

#1184 7 years ago
Quoted from RWH:

You say that as if you think that is far fetched???

Well, it has been a while.

Quoted from Pinball-is-great:

Glad that the Dolphins won.

You're not the only one, but win or lose, it always seems to be a nail biter. I still have all my toe nails. They are not only still alive for the wildcard, but possibly the division. I have't done the math on that though.

#1193 7 years ago
Quoted from jesster64:

wash went for 2 pointer to lose it at the end? Are you kidding me???!!!!!!!

They had nothing to lose. If a playoff berth was at stake, they would have called it differently.

#1195 7 years ago
Quoted from Monarca1091:

Lol.........Dolphins over the amazing patriots ? Yeah only in your fantasies.

It looks like the Dolphins are a bit more amazing than the Patriots.

#1197 7 years ago

I would just like to cherish this moment for for now, but there is still a long way to go. I just hope this brings a little closure to all those that have had to put up with the "unstoppable Patriots" jabber over the last few weeks.

#1200 7 years ago
Quoted from jesster64:

With gronk, I think they would have won that one, I say again, huge huge loss.

One man can make a difference for sure, but it looked like the Pats had plenty of able receivers to catch the ball. Miami was also short players and lost a couple more early in the game. This being a team sport, I'd have to give the edge to Miami today, no matter who was on the field. They played harder.

#1203 7 years ago
Quoted from Pinball-is-great:

Patriots are not going to lose both of their final two games.
Yes, it could possibly happen, but it ain't gonna happen.

After what I saw today, anything is possible. Even if the Phins don't make the playoffs this year, they are now poised to be one of the better teams of the future. And after waiting forty years, I will be fine with that.

#1206 7 years ago

Just like every weekend there will be winners and losers, but there sure were some great games today!
Go Lions!

#1238 7 years ago
Quoted from Nilroc:

Russel Wilson notched his 23rd win. That is a NFL record for any quarterback for their first 2 seasons in the NFL.

That's not bad. Marino won 26 in his first two full seasons as a starter, 29 if you count playoff games and 7 of the 9 he started his rookie year. So he is in good company as far as stats are concerned. But no rings.

#1243 7 years ago
Quoted from Pinchroma:

Barry Switzer just inherited JJ's team. Anyone could have gotten a Superbowl victory with that team.

And a little help from Neil O'Donnell. lol.

#1255 7 years ago

Maybe Jerry, just like Al Davis, should actually try coaching.

#1257 7 years ago

Al Davis was a great coach, and before the later years he was also a damn good partner and general manager. But when trying to keep a coach on a string, it is always a recipe for disaster. His problems with Marcus Allen sealed his fate, imo.

#1259 7 years ago

The best thing for the Cowboys future would be for Jerry Jones to sell the team.

#1261 7 years ago

So I just did the math. If by chance the Dolphins and the Patriots both end the season 10-6, the division crown goes to Miami because of a better conference record. And the way that both teams have been playing of late, there is a chance of this happening. But there is also a chance that the fins won't make the playoffs at all even if they do win out.. There is also a chance the Patriots won't make the playoffs at all. We'll have to just wait and see.

#1279 7 years ago
Quoted from kwiKimart:

So Miami and Baltimore need to lose and San Diego needs to win to get the #6 spot. AGAIN!!!!!

They would have to lose ALL their games. Not likely. However I just figured out that if Miami wins their last two, they are in no matter what. Because since the Ravens and the Bengals play each other the last week of the season, they both can't win. Cheers!

F that Odin, Im not paying for that crap anymore, free TV all I care about is watching the Packers.

I was about to tell them to take that thing out of there, but they made me an offer I couldn't refuse! $55 a month, and NFL Sunday ticket for free! As long as I want.

#1290 7 years ago
Quoted from Frax:

And yet my wife can't seem to get our service below 90$ a month....and we don't have any premium channels.

As soon as your contract is up, they will make you a yearly deal at the introductory rate, including Sunday ticket. Just ask! And they will throw in premium channels for several months to boot.

#1292 7 years ago
Quoted from centerflank:

Your bill is $660 a year, thats a lot of custom pin gulps/LED's and other super important mods.

Probably a lot less than if I wasted money on a cell phone.

#1301 7 years ago
Quoted from RWH:

We had that crap for awhile too and every time a F^@# cloud passed by it would go out! I had left the local cable co. due to being pissed over what I considered lousy customer service but, after my direct tv experience I couldn't wait to go back to them!!!!

I left Time warner cable because they were in a constant battle with NFL network over how much extra it would cost the customers to get that channel. Well, I watched them bitch back and forth for years, and never got NFL Network. So when DirecTV offered that and Sunday Ticket to boot and some extra large gift card, I jumped ship. Cable went out several times, and it happened during a great game I was watching. DirecTV has not gone out once in over two years.

Quoted from SteveO:

The Packers won the Super Bowl a couple of years ago when they were a 6 seed. They got hot at the right time.

That's what it's all about these days. The last time the Fins won the trophy, they got hot at the right time. Like almost three years straight. Now it's get in, and be on a roll at the end of the season.
