Quoted from badbilly27:

BTW...I didn't like the late hit call in 1Q on the Bears when they sacked Rodgers. You can't stop a 290 pound DL running at full steam on a dime.

I'm neither a Bears or Pack fan and I thought it was a horrible call also. I have a feeling the Goodell told the refs to throw the flag on any kind of late hits like that against both QB's.

Great link Eli.

Whether you love him or hate him, everyone better get used to seeing a lot more of Dick Sherman. He's very smart and very well spoken when he's not screaming. With a degree in communications and being very opinionated I guarantee you that a major sports network will hire him for commentary.

As a Vikings fan I will say it's been a very fun year to watch them. I figured they were a 8-8 team. But, I think their season ends against the Seahawks. I agree with Centerflank that the next two weekends are by far the best weeks in the NFL season.

Seahawks over Vikes
Skins over Packers
Steelers over Bengals
Chiefs over Texans

Quoted from rai:

Funny thing *probably* 28 teams would take Cam over who they currently have at QB.

Why is that funny? He's the NFL MVP and he completely dominated the field this past year except for the SB. Besides GB and NE, the rest of the teams would be complete idiots not to grab him if he was available.

Now can he carry this over to next season too? I hope so as I think he's fun to watch, and I'm not a Carolina fan.

#6471 4 years ago

Fuck the domes. I played a H.S. playoff game in the old Metrodome and I've never been so stiff and sore from that shitty turf. I have no idea how those guys used to play eight games a year on it.

Plus they're a horrible atmosphere for sporting events.

Quoted from SteveO:

Time to eliminate the half-time show if they aren't going to have musicians that most football fans like.

That will never happen. Football fans are going to be back to watch after halftime regardless of the musician for the show. The halftime show itself is for for the non football fans so they can tune in and help boost ratings. My wife didn't watch a single snap of the game but she sat down on the couch at halftime and I went upstairs and ate supper
The NFL and the networks don't give two shits if you or other football fans don't like the halftime show.

#10572 2 years ago

The field immediately after the SB is a freaking madhouse. If I were on the losing end, I'd be sprinting to the locker room to avoid all of it. I can't stand Brady, but I don't fault him at all for leaving.

#12522 1 year ago
Quoted from Erik:

My ongoing opinion is that Goff isn't very good. A good qb finds a way to win that game against a questionable defense and with an excellent defense on his side.

I thought Goff looked starry eyed in the pregame shots of him. Then the Patriots defense knocked him around and it completely put him off of his game.

In a league where pretty much every rule favors the offense, a defensive game is fun to watch once in a while. I get tired of shootouts where the last team to have the ball wins.

#12552 1 year ago

Watching Goff get knocked around was entertaining for me. Even Brady got sacked a couple times. QB's are pampered so much nowadays that it's nice to see them take their licks once in a while.

Quoted from Who-Dey:

When a player makes 10 million dollars a year he don't have much incentive to play. Add that to the shitty rules that the NFL has come up with and it all equals bad football.

Do you honestly think that NFL players don't have much incentive to play? Most contracts are not guaranteed and alot of their pay is bonus and incentive based. Take a look at the top 10 salary earners, they all bust their asses each week. The exception maybe being Kirk Cousins, but I say that as a disappointed Vikings fan.

Quoted from Who-Dey:

Add that to the shitty rules that the NFL has come up with and it all equals bad football.

The shitty rules are there because the NFL is giving fans exactly what they want. More points! Just look at this years SB. Everyone bitched about how bad the game was because it was low scoring. Fans want points so the NFL comes up with rules to protect their offensive players, QB especially. You call it pussified, I call it catering to their fan base.

#12691 1 year ago
Quoted from Who-Dey:

Have you happened to notice that NFL ratings have plummeted lately? Must not be what the fans want.

NFL ratings were up for 2018, but the SB itself was down.

Quoted from CrazyLevi:

I really thought XFL was terrible

It was. They had a lack of skill players, and the players just seemed slow compared to NFL'ers. Dick Ebersol has said that it was terrible football and he helped create the league.

#12692 1 year ago

all of the political BS

#12695 1 year ago
Quoted from Who-Dey:

They may have been up from 2017 but i can guarantee you one million percent that theres not as many people watching the NFL as what there used to be.

I agree with you on that. That's why I feel that the NFL is making rules to help offenses, so that people are more likely to turne in and hopefully see shootouts.

I'll add too that the rule changes are also alienating a lot of fans. I don't think the NFL is anywhere close to as good as it used to be, but it's the best football we have with the best players.

I've watched a few games over the past month and I haven't been impressed at all. The AAF is suffering from the same thing the XFL did, lack of talent at the skill positions. I'll continue watching if a game is on and I have nothing else to do, but it's just not all that good of football.

Cousins had 3 TD passes, but still managed to play like crap the rest of the game.

#15602 11 months ago

Who in their right mind would want to play for a team in London? Making that trip back and forth a bunch of times during the season would be killer. It's bad enough the league forces a few teams to play a game there each season. Whenever you see or hear a quote from a player they're always saying that they hate making the trip and playing in London.

#15679 11 months ago

Think anyone will pick him up? The only team I can think of is maybe the Bears?, but I just don't see it. I'm not sure how effective he could be after not playing for three years, and it's mid season, so he probably wouldn't be ready to play for a few weeks at least.

#15682 11 months ago
Quoted from TheLaw:

No and the Bears would be at the bottom for me. THey already started the back up and had good luck with that, you can search for Whysnow's listing of his QBR , and then they refuse to play him again even though they have the worst QB in the league.
But yeah that's so much time not playing, doesn;t work well.

My feelings are that the Bears just need some kind of spark on offense and they're a contender again. The defense is there, they just need someone to get it going on offense.

But I agree, no one will pick him up.

I woke up this morning to see that the Rams lost so the Vikings are in the playoffs.

They won't win unless they're at home, but at least they're in I guess.

#18041 10 months ago
Quoted from newovad:

To be fair, two of their road losses were early when they weren’t playing well. The last two were at KC (albeit against a backup) and Seattle. And they were at least close. That said, I wouldn’t expect three straight road wins to get to the SB.

The Bears loss was against a backup also. You can look on the bright side of a loss all you want, but they're still road losses. Also, Cousins has yet to show that he can win a big road game. I thought the win in Dallas was a big one, but they've proven themselves to be mediocre.

I can't see the Vikings coming out with a win in New Orleans. The only playoff team the Vikings have beaten is Philly.

Dream come true for me as a Skins fan.
The exact hire Dan Snyder would have made 10 years ago. An expensive game-passed-him-by dude who won a Super Bowl because he was lucky to come up at the same time as Aaron Rogers in his prime. McCarthy will win nothing in Dallas and be on the hot seat within three years. His relationship with Jones is going to be a disaster as well, as I'm sure Jerry promised him far more power than he's every going to be willing to give up.

Same here. As a Vikings fan this is a great hire for Dallas.

College players are already paid with a free education so I'm not in favor of paying college athletes at

Do you seriously think that every player on every team gets a full ride athletic scholarship?

#23060 5 months ago
Quoted from PtownPin:

No, but most do.....I think most division 1 teams give out 85 full scholarships....thats a lot

That's correct, D-1 football teams can have a max of 85 full rides. I'm just assuming that Who-Dey means every player from every sport, because that's how his sentence reads.

Quoted from RWH:

Personally I think paying college players is a good idea. I mean it would solve a lot of the petty control games the NCAA promotes, besides they are never going to do anything that jeopardizes lining their coffers.

So do I. I don't think it should be an actual paycheck, but rather a card with money on it that they can use on-campus only. This would greatly help the athletes that don't get any or just some scholarship money.

I played baseball in college and it was damn tough. Workouts were year round, then you still had school and studying.

Quoted from CrazyLevi:

If anything, Zoom in a couple hundred fans per game and you could have “crowd reaction” that way. A crowd track is just too goddamn cheesy I’d like to think the nfl would be above that.

Oh gods, please no. I saw enough Zoom fans during the draft to last me a lifetime. Just play the games, I'll get excited when I want to get excited.

Yep definitely in the top 5....Jamarcus Russell, Mandarich, and Bosworth come to mind

Johnny Manziel, Rick Meier, KiJana Carter, Akili Smith, Joe Burrow

That is a great pic. Jimmy Mac, Slick Willy, dick pic Bret, and the Reverend. Favre looks like he just came from the set of Swingers.

Quoted from PtownPin: way u could list 14 QB's in the NFL u would take before Cousins....He's a really solid starting QB

I've had my share of complaints against Cousins' but I'm very happy to have him as a QB. I'd say he's the best QB the Vikes have had since Warren Moon in the early 90's.

Quoted from jandrea95:

This doesn't seem like the year to get your way in a holdout to be honest, especially for a RB, haha.

The problem is he wants McCaffrey money, which the Vikings don't have left for this season. Also, this will be his 3rd season and he hasn't made it through 16 games yet without being injured. I'd hate to lose him, but I won't be disappointed if the Vikes make a trade. The backup Mattison is solid.

If they do change their name hopefully they won't go with something quasi political like the Capitals and Nationals. Federals would be the easiest and most boring choice for them.

Warriors maybe? Or just Skins? Or maybe Pigskins since some fans wear the hog masks?

#23587 3 months ago
Quoted from Deaconblooze:

Marquette changed their name from Warriors due to controversy. I can't say I fully understand or remember why.

NCAA might have forced them to. They forced the University of North Dakota to change their old Fighting Sioux mascot even though they had a great relationship with local Sioux tribes. The tribes would perform at big pep rallys before football and hockey games. I went to one and it was fantastic. Gave me chills when they drumming, singing and dancing..

Follow up question...what's the "International " football leage?

I believe he means the AAF. Kap obviously had no intentions of playing in that league, he was just seeing if any team was stupid enough to pay that kind of money.

Quoted from TheLaw:

Big 10 already conference only this fall

Yeah the stations around here are going crazy speculating that other conferences will follow suit. Meaning that Notre Dame won't have anyone to play this season. I would laugh my ass off if that happened.

#23836 3 months ago

My guess is that ND and NBC will shell out big money to teams for ND's home games. Then their conference will magically give those teams an exemption for one game.

The Washington Football Team.
Has a nice ring to it. Haha

Just temporary according to Adam Schefter.

Quoted from fosaisu:

Leave it to Dan Snyder to make a bad situation worse. It's not rocket science, pick a new name and get on with it. Unless they're going to be "Washington FC" forever (and believe me, I relish the thought of Washington having a soccer club name for its football team), why delay the decision?

My guess is they want to sell some apparel. They'll sell apparel for a few months and people will buy it because it's only temporary, then switch their name and sell more stuff with the new name.

#24181 84 days ago

I don't think it's that old. You see that dark spot just above the 06? I'm guessing that represents the NFL patch that all uniforms have, but they didn't start wearing those until the 90's I believe.

Also, players don't have a 0 before a single digit number jersey. Meaning no players have a number 06 on their jersey.

My best guess, it was some kind of collectible given out for the 2006 season.

#24184 84 days ago
Quoted from theadicts77:

The number is very confusing though, could it be college football?

Yeah I don't get the number either. I think it's just some generic NFL thing because they tried to replacate the NFL emblem over the numbers.

Also, is there a uniform number on the DiMaggio? That looks pretty generic too. The Yankees don't wear anything red on their uniforms.

ACC being stubborn, no doubt thanks to the leadership of Dabo. Look I went to clemson, I was happy to see them win some titles, but Dabo is a scumbag who doesn’t care about anybody but himself.

ND joining them for the season has alot to do with it too.

Anybody watching Hard Knocks on HBO?
After watching the premiere last week, I sadly think there will be more episodes of the show this year then actual NFL games played. Fuck I hope I’m wrong. But think it’s gonna be a hard knock life this year with little to no football.
And damn that’s gonna suck

Rams will be one of the first teams with a Covid outbreak.

Asking because I genuinely dont know, but can anyone give me the cliff-notes on what is going on with college football? I only catch snippets but it seems like the big 10 backed out, and no one else followed lead?

The Pac12 canceled on the same day as the Big 10 and one other conference followed later. MAC I think.

#24676 38 days ago
Quoted from jandrea95:

Does any of this matter though? I am sure it does to an extent, but you would think ANY NFL fan would have been glued to the TV Thursday to watch some real football. Especially when you conciser the fact we had no preseason, etc.

I didn't watch. I just don't care about Chiefs vs. Texans. Plus I'm tired of the gushing over Mahomes. Add on the NBC crew and I was out from the start.

All new DBs, no pass rush and little to no upgrades to a bad offensive line.

And a new OC that looks to have completely changed the offense. Cousins does best on play-action passes. But, he probably wouldn't have time to pass with this offensive line.

#25192 29 days ago

What will happen first? Pats will stop giving up long passes, or Belichick will figure out how to wear his facemask? My guess is neither.

Yeah, you can't get a running start to block a FG correct? It would be a freaking madhouse on long FG's with the way some of these guys can jump.

Quoted from jandrea95:

WTH happened to the Vikings? Haven't followed them this year but yikes... They invest in all the wrong things or what?

Horrible O-line. Cousins has no time and he doesn't do well under pressure. On defense, Danielle Hunter has been hurt, plus a weak secondary.

On the bright side, Justin Jefferson is looking like a stud so far.

Diggs did a lot more then catch balls for the Vikings, he was Cousins safety net.
