For people outside of NE and Philly, who are you rooting for and why?

I would think that the two fan bases are fairly universally disliked across the nation, so I'm curious to see who people want to win (or lose less I suppose).

Antonio Brown is no longer a Patriot.

#14396 9 months ago
Quoted from vicjw66:

It was like watching Buster Douglas pick apart Mike Tyson.

*Side-note tangent:
Revisionist history. That fight was far more competitive than people remember. Tyson dropped Douglas in the 8th with a tremendous uppercut, and Douglas barely beat the count (which you could argue was long). The score cards were split at the time of the stoppage as well (one for Mike, one even, one for Buster).

While Buster was brilliant in that fight, and it was by far and away the shining moment of his career, he hardly picked Mike apart by any stretch of the imagination.

Now, back to the thrill of MNF.

#14411 9 months ago
Quoted from CrazyLevi:

WTF is this horseshit??
Buster destroyed Tyson that night. Tyson landed one good punch the whole night. The rest of it is was buster dominating. The judges were blind that night - and this was the much commented on at the time. The consensus was the judges simply didn’t believe what they were seeing, so invincible was Tyson considered at the time.
The “long count” was also complete bullshit and you should be ashamed of bringing that up. It was an attempted Don King con job and ZERO people on the planet took it seriously at the time.
Have you even watched the fight?!? Except for 8 seconds buster is in control the entire fight.

I think you’re putting a lot more emotion into my post than I did.

The fight was far more competitive than people remember. It was not some amazingly one-sided affair. I didn’t have Mike up at the time of the stoppage, and I didn’t think the count was long, but the fight was far closer than one good punch.

I’ve watched the fight more times than I can count, and every time I do I’m shocked by how others remember it. Douglas won and had the fight of a lifetime, but Mike didn’t get steamrolled the way people would have you imagine.

Also, while my brother was never cut by any NFL team, I’m literally a professional boxing coach. It’s a big part of how I make my living.

#14416 9 months ago
Quoted from vicjw66:

I don’t know what fight he was watching. Buster Douglas dominated that fight. Tyson had one good punch the entire night. I stand by my analogy.

If you honestly believe that, you’ve either never watched the fight or have a completely skewed recollection of it. Tyson won round 7 and 8, and came out strong in the 9th before getting stung. He also took one of the earlier rounds, though I’d have to watch it again to remember which.

I’m not saying it was this back and forth war or anything. But it was FAR more competitive than you remember/like to admit. Tyson won a number of rounds in a fight that ended in 10. It was much more than a single punch that kept him in it.

#14420 9 months ago
Quoted from CrazyLevi:

The guy is a boxing coach. Not a boxing judge thank god.

Out of curiosity, how would you have scored the 7th and 8th round? Seriously.

Also, the digs aren’t really necessary, right?

#14424 9 months ago
Quoted from Who-Dey:

I hate to agree with Levi and Vic but Buster Douglas whipped Tysons ass that night bad. Buster Douglas was no where near the fighter Tyson was but he hit Tyson and fucked him up and then finished him off. Tyson has a glass jaw.

Tyson lost, and ultimately got his ass beat in the end. No doubt about that. It’s just that the fight was far more competitive than people remember. That was my point from the beginning. I didn’t think Mike was winning or would have won, just that it was more competitive.

As for Mike’s jaw, he took an incredible amount of punishment in that fight.

#14427 9 months ago
Quoted from Who-Dey:

Every fight that Tyson ever got hit in he lost. Guy had one hell of a punch but he also had a glass jaw. You wouldn't even had known who Mike Tyson was if he would have fought back in the day with Ali, Foreman, and all of those guys that fought back then. They every one would had destroyed him, even Brian Quarry.

Brian Quarry lol? You mean Jerry Quarry?

#14434 9 months ago
Quoted from Who-Dey:

Ernie Shavers, Holmes, Sonny Liston, Joe Frazier, all of those guys back then would have destroyed Tyson easily.

You do realize that Tyson both fought and destroyed Larry Holmes, right?

So you remember Tyson and Douglas being 100% one-sided, and both Brian Quarry and Larry Holmes would destroy Tyson easily...

It’s almost as if you’re not remembering things as well as you’d think.

Quoted from o-din:

Good start for the Skins, but getting a little out of hand now. Two weeks in a row, the Pats are showing some weaknesses.
I don't no who or how they set it up, but used to be the top teams from the year before were given a little tougher schedule.

The offensive line is a serious concern for the Pats, no doubt about it. The kicker (whoever that might be) is likely to cost them a game this season too.

Still, their point differential is remarkable, the defense might be the best they've assembled, and they're (likely) starting the year 5-0.

I got to watch tonight’s Pats game in Belichick’s family box! It would have been great if The Pats pulled it off, but it was still an unreal experience. I’m accustomed to nosebleed seats. Tonight, I say next to Debbie Belichick. Definitely a different experience.

#17065 7 months ago
Quoted from Deaconblooze:

How'd that happen? Would love to hear more

My brother and I are boxing coaches (sorry to bring it up again Levi), and every year we volunteer to coach fighters for a charity called “Haymakers for Hope.” The charity pits non-boxers against one another in a one night, winner takes all event. The participants are placed in a local boxing club and are given four month to prepare for the fight. My brother and I have trained something like nine boxers over the years for the event, and our boxers alone have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to benefit cancer research.

Once the event is over, it’s a tradition that the fighters treat the coaches to something fun. Typically is like a nice steak dinner or something comparable.

For this past event, one of our boxers happened to be the Goddaughter of Bill Belichick. She asked if we’d like to go to a game as our gift. I told her that we were big fans and that I always try and go to a few games a year, to which she replied “Yeah, but you’ve never been to one with me.” She was right. Everything from dining, to parking, to viewing, and comfort, were on a totally different level than what I’ve ever experienced. It was a once in a lifetime thing for me, but just another day at the office for most everyone else.

I agree. I did hear them say that where he got touched, even if in the air, would have been where he’s down. I still think he had the first down at the 30 yard line either way.

Incredible start to the playoffs. What a game.

#19009 6 months ago
Quoted from nwpinball:

Josh Allen has a lot of potential, he seemed a little too young and green to handle the pressure of the playoffs. Neither of these teams were going to make it very far, but this is setting them up well for next season.

Can’t use age as an excuse when a 24 year old Watson finishes the game the way he did.

#19014 6 months ago
Quoted from Colsond3:

That was 2 disgusting missed tackles. Watson should’ve been sacked for a 10 yard loss. Leading to punt or 58 yard field goal attempt.

Oh, no doubt. Watson showed some serious poise though.

His career isn’t over. His career with The Patriots is over.

#19053 6 months ago
Quoted from Colsond3:

Brady goes to Denver. Eli goes to the Patriots.

I think the ultimate heal-turn would be Brady to The Cowboys.

They already dumped Garret, and they’re not resigning Dak. Jerry Jones signs Brady and hires McDaniels and makes the ultimate villainous franchise.

In reality, Brady will end up a Charger next year if I had to guess.

#19056 6 months ago
Quoted from o-din:

I thought The Pats would get past Tennessee, but I don’t think anyone thought they’d be able to do much beyond that. If they can’t beat Miami at home, they’re definitely not beating KC on the road.

#19080 6 months ago
Quoted from RWH:

Lets say that the Patriots were willing to let Brady walk, where do you think he'd go? I think he'd want to go somewhere that at least has the pieces to contend next season and of those, are any really in need of a QB? Broncos, Bears, Tampa Bay, and do I dare include Miami. I didn't include the Giants as I think they will continue with Jones and to be honest he has shown some promise.

He’s going to San Diego. It’s the perfect choice. They’ve got a billion dollars in cap space and a stadium that needs to be filled. Brady heads home to California and rides off into the sunset. They can go 8-8 and no one will complain. Use that cap money to bring in some additional weapons, and who knows how it plays out?

#19101 6 months ago
Quoted from RWH:

I'm with ya Jorge it's hard to figure where he would land. He may not leave NE who knows, if he does Bellicheats days are numbered.

I actually think it’s the opposite honestly. Brady is the greatest to ever do it, but he’s a million years old. Statistically, he’s like a fringe top-ten quarterback at this point. I think Bill could better with a younger quarterback. Not someone like Stidham obviously, but if he still had someone like Jimmy G, the dynasty might still have some legs.

#19276 6 months ago

dirtbag66 Every sportsbook on the planet have the Browns as favorites to sign Brady. I'm guessing it has something to do with McDaniels as well.

How do you feel about having the all-time leading cheater as your next potential QB?

#19280 6 months ago
Quoted from YZRider926:

I’m neither a pats or browns fan but what incentive is there for Brady to sign there?

I can't imagine a scenario where Gisele agrees to live in Cleveland, but Vegas must know something I don't. Like Ron said, he's tight with OBJ. With Kitchens gone, I would assume they idea would be to bring in both Brady and McDaniels.

I'm certain he'll end up in San Diego, but it would be nice to see Dirtbags head explode with the signing.

#19428 6 months ago
Quoted from dirtbag66:

What if he goes to, let's say the Browns (*laugh track*) and helps them advance to the AFC Championship (*more laugh track*). Shoot, I think the fans would be happy with just a Wild Card win! But let's say he takes them to the SB. This would cement his legacy as the GOAT. All the scandals in NE will haunt him forever. Sure he's a first ballot HoF'er, but anyone outside the Boston area will always consider him a cheater. Just a thought.

What do you think is the biggest factor preventing Brady from going to The Browns? Is it that Cleveland is a massive shithole, or that the franchise has been an embarrassment for six decades?

#19522 6 months ago

The Patriots have never given Brady max money, and they certainly aren’t going to now. They can’t franchise him, he sold his house, Guerrero sold his house, he didn’t report to OTA’s, he was unhappy with his weapons, and the list goes on.

Bill wanted to move on from Tom when Jimmy G rolled up. Kraft stuck with Brady. I’m sure the Pats would gladly sign him to a one-year, team friendly deal. He wants two year, and big bucks. There are a number of teams out there with huge cap numbers, questionable QB, and stadiums that needed help getting filled (Chargers, cough, cough) that will throw dumb money at him.

Both Bill and Brady are looking to say “I told you so.” Neither can do that until Tom moves on.

Also, Brady is allllllll about this TB12 method-shit. That’s a big part of the reason he wants to play until he’s 45. It’s a marketing tool to peddle his wears. Cook books and training facilities already exist. It’s what he’s looking to do with his post-football life. Him and Guerrero (who is a snake oil POS) are looking to ride this wave for as long as possible. There’s no chance he retires this offseason.

#19545 6 months ago
Quoted from Colsond3:

Brady hasn’t taken “less salary”, he’s agreed to take it later to help with cap space season to season. Deferred compensation. On NFL sports talk this morning they were saying that when Brady leaves, the Pats franchise will be in a rough spot. Brady has compromised his salary for pay on the backend when he retires or is traded, so the Pats will be cutting him a very large check when he departs.
They also said if he’s traded, any team that even tries to absorb what the Pats owe him would put that team in a very precarious position with their salary cap.

Brady's contract is up, so he's definitely not getting traded anywhere. He'd be signing somewhere as a free agent, and that new team wouldn't be on the hook for any money.

Brady attempted to negotiate a max-contract the last time around. When The Pats declined, he negotiated terms that allowed for him to leave more easily leave at the end of the season.

While the team may cut him a check once he retires, it will absolutely pale in comparison to what he would have made with (warranted) max-deals throughout his career. He took less money so the team could allocate funds and acquire top talent throughout his tenure. He's been vocal about not having viable options to throw to, acting as a further catalyst for his departure.

#19614 6 months ago
Quoted from CrazyLevi:

Yes you actually got me to check.
I figure some very dumb GM signs TB12 to a two year, $40 million deal, with most of it guaranteed.

Dumb in a competitive sense maybe, but I would think his signing would translate into huge sales for some potential suitor.

#19617 6 months ago
Quoted from CrazyLevi:

Jersies and tickets, yeah, at least until the season goes to shit.
Any other predictions on what type of contract he'd bring in?

I think there is some clause with jersey sales that splits the revenue up with the league/teams, but I could certainly be wrong about that.

As for money, I don't have the faintest idea honestly. I believe he's looking for a two-year, max contract. I could see a team like The Chargers or The Raiders overpaying for him, for no reason outside of filling a new stadium in a new city.

The Chargers have no QB, a new stadium to fill, huge cap space, and are in Brady's home state. They could surround him with talent due to available funds, they would have people lining up to see the new team with Tom behind center, and if he simply acts as a game manager it should be enough to get them to the playoffs and keep the fan base happy. Gisele would feel at home in LA, and Tom can see what he can do without Bill (and vice versa). I can't imagine a more favorable situation for him.

Tom Brady no longer a Patriot.

#21697 3 months ago
Quoted from CrazyLevi:

I really think he’s out of his mind.
Now is the perfect time to hang them up. All he can do is tarnish his legacy, and destroy his brain cells.
The only people more nuts than Tom are the idiots who sign him to some huge 2 year deal. He’s gonna suck.

I would assume it’s Tampa Bay, and they really have nothing to lose by signing him. They haven’t made the playoffs in like 11 years, and their fan base is sparse. He’s not going to bring a ton of wins, but he’ll bring some excitement for two years.
