Quoted from DudeRegular:

Also saw that the Lions offered a first and a third rd pick for Deebo. They didn't say if it was the 2nd overall pick (i doubt) or a 2023 pick instead.

Love the way Deebo plays but the Lions are still a year away from needing a 25M a year WR

Like the Jamison thing this is good; actually trying to do shit for once is a big deal with this lazy ass franchise.

Tough to get an actual number until the schedules are released. At least 1 win against Da Bears though, a fine start.

AGAIN, can someone send a wellness check over to Jim Irsey please? I understand he hated Carson TLegs, everyone does, but this Matt Ryan actual blowing is out of control.

Irsay is a drunk and a lunatic. He "lucked" into two generational talents at QB and that made him look good for 20 years.

Carson Wentz gonna make him look bad (even worse) in 2022. BOOK IT!

Sure but I think he's back on the pills as well. Something aboot how he wanted Matt Ryan on an Aircraft Carrier if he was landing on it....? good lord.

EDIT: and buy "pills" I mean Blue Thunder; aka Cocaine & Viagra.

Lions draw AFC & NFC East in 2022..

Obv NFC north x2 GB, MIN, CHI

@NE, NYJ, DAL, WAS
home BUF, MIA, PHL, NYG

Extra games @CAR home JAX, SEA

Not outside the realm of possibility an "average" team talent wise can make the playoffs facing that schedule. It only takes a few lucky bounces, 2 missed tackles and a missed FG....voila 9 wins!

I have an unworn Wentz Eagles jersey I can bring to Pinfest CHEAP. A little dye and a new emblem, you'll be all set.

The last two Lions wins over the Seahawks were 2012 and 1999... so you may be right, it may be time for their once a decade win.

Hey wait, SEA won 51-29 last season...they wouldn't play them again.

I am reasonably sure Wilson won't have 4 TD passes again and hopeful the Lions aren't led by Tim Boyle this time.

Can and will play them again in 2022.

Guessing Seattle was last in NFC West last year? Their prize is the NFC North cellar dweller.

I think the NFL releases the international game schedules tomorrow. Londoners may be stuck with TN/NYG, which sounds terrible, but they're usually treated to the Jags.

#42319 1 year ago
Quoted from boscokid:

Naturally, jaded Lions fans point to the fact the Ford family has controlled the team since 1963

The Ford family has actually been passive/aggressive in the long term, but the aggressive has not been in a good way. When the Fords bought the team, the HC was still George Wilson, who had coached the Lions to their last NFL championship in 1957 (5 years before I was born, so I’ve never come close to sniffing a championship team!). I’ve heard conflicting reports about how this happened, but William Clay Ford either fired Wilson’s coaching staff or directed Wilson to fire them. Either way Wilson, rightfully, left after such owner intrusion into his duties. WCF hired his friend Russ Thomas as GM, which led to 22 years of mediocre or bad Lions teams. Eventually, after a couple other GMs, the Fords thought outside-the-box and hired Matt Millen from the broadcast booth as possibly the worst NFL GM ever, and even renewed his contract. The last season that started with Matt Millen at the helm, the Lions infamously went 0-16.

#42320 1 year ago

Lions fans cannot be called “fair-weather bandwagon fans.” There hasn’t been fair weather or a bandwagon for a long, long time!

GB was already announced to be playing in London. I don't know who else is going though.

I assumed they were tanking much like Cleveland when they hired the baseball guy to be GM. Was Millen not in on the sham?

0-16 was BEST EFFORT?!?

#42323 1 year ago

Anybody in Michigan has a lifetime pass to the "Lions Bandwagon."

If they ever win a Super Bowl, they are all entitled to pile on!

If you’re talking about Matt Millen, he was a former NFL player who was doing color commentary on network TV, I believe. And I highly doubt they were tanking. HC Rod Marinelli was fighting to keep his job, which he lost.

[EDIT: Sorry, you must have been talking about Cleveland hiring a baseball guy.]

Hahahahahaa.

God no.

#42326 1 year ago

William Clay Ford was far too loyal to Lions personnel. I heard that his son Bill Ford, Jr. was so upset with the team during that 0-16 season that he convinced his dad to fire Matt Millen before the season was over. And at least his sister Sheila did fire GM Bob Quinn and HC Matt Patricia, but it should have happened a season earlier.

Tanking has not been anyone’s plan.

When do you guys seriously think Toronto will get a franchise?? We have tons of money ...anyone please

Quoted from wolverinetuner:

yeah Sashi Brown? They loaded up on a zillion picks by tanking and trading picks for future picks, then when that draft finally came around they whiffed on every single pick.

TBH it was remarkable how bad that was, even by Cleveland standards. I'd dig it up and post but without some rentfree bristling I lack motivation.

What, is there room for the NFL and the Argos in the same town?

I’d like to see Toronto in the NFL, personally. (Although the Lions would probably lose a lot of their fans in Windsor!)

I can't imagine the NFL is going to expand again so you'd have to pick off one of the injured gazelles. In the past that seemed like the Bills or Jags, but they seem to be on more steady ground now?

Your best bet is a team that simply can't get a stadium. Yes, Washington might be a possibility!

#42331 1 year ago

Lions have some quality players this year ,the RBs are strong and receivers too .IMO Defense needs a couple Guys

The name change could be from “Commanders” to “Mounties,” which could allow the basic color scheme to continue.

Just split the games between Texas and Ontario, like the Packers used to do with Milwaukee, simple.

The NFL team in Toronto should be the the Argos.
If border expansion is so important them why not start with a sure thing in Toronto?? CfL is in a slow death for the last 15 years outside west Canada

I'm tired of rooting for the Lions and Bill's.. couldn't care less anyhow.. Canada deserves a team.

In preseason?

The numbers won't work. With 32 teams, 8 divisions at 4 teams each that play the division rivals 2x each, adding one team screws that up. One division would have 5 teams, 8 division games which is almost half the schedule.

Only way expansion happens is with 8 new teams, 4 in each conference. And with the lack of quality QB's game play will be diluted.

#42343 1 year ago
Quoted from Daditude:

In preseason?

I did as a fact , attended a matty maroon visit to Detroit car show then party at the Detroit stadium afterwards. I had a few and went/snuck on the field myself and pretended the Lions won the superbowl because of my stiff arm TD.

Quoted from tomdrum:

So what you’re saying is NFL/CFL merger …

The current owners would need to be convinced that growth in TV money would outweigh eight new owners taking a slice. Seems like a tough sell.

#42345 1 year ago
Quoted from fosaisu:

No. NFL wants to go international. I could see a team in London, Mexico and one or two in Canada. They play in London every year for a reason. Even with 3-4 international teams, the others would be in the USA.

#42346 1 year ago
Quoted from tomdrum:

You act like everything has to be even; which it hasn't in the past with no real issues.
You have an extra team in each Conference so what?

#42347 1 year ago

It's pretty perfect the way it is now..

Goodell will try to expand internationally before the end of his tenure. All these guys have huge egos, he wants that as part of his legacy, and will claim he made the NFL a world sport (it still won't be, but that's what they'll say at his inevitable HOF enshrinement).

Quoted from TheLaw:

I remember when the Cardinals were in the NFC East. So yeah it happened before. The NFL is printing money now. The owners like the 4 team divisions. Divisions games are usually the toughest, you play them twice. One division in each conference would have 8 games out of 17 in their division. Tough sell.

Pretty sure they like more Monies more than they like 4 team Divisions.

Quoted from tomdrum:

THere's always bullshit teams in every division. Even with Jax a decent team in 95 Steelers still got the usual byes with Cinci & Browns and went to the SB.

I doubt expansion happens in my lifetime. But then I'm old.
