I've read that Washington had holdout racist ownership in the 50s/60s that wouldn't sign black players after the rest of the league found religion on overt segregation. Cost them a lot of black fans, some of whom never came back. Not that that explains the whole phenomenon of course.

The old logo was great, but that dolphin had an M on his helmet. He didn't even play for the same team...!!!

I am curious how you came to be a Dolphins fan growing up in DC. A good friend of mine growing up in the area was a Dolphins fan - he made that decision as a 7 year old to annoy his parents during - you guessed it - Super Bowl 17!!!
I bear no particular animosity towards the phish but I'm pretty upset with them updating their logo. That streamlined super modern dolphin sucks, I miss the dolphin on the helmet wearing a dolphins helmet.
Haha. Yes! The Dolphins logo update was terrible. The original one was perfect and didn't need any updating. The current logo looks like some cruise ship or airline logo to me.
I started cheering for the Dolphins sometime around 1975. It started out as simply liking the mascot and aqua uniforms. My dad was an Eagles fan and talked up how great a coach Don Shula was. My mother was a Redskins fan. All the kids around the neighborhood were Redskins, Steelers, Cowboys, or Raiders fans. I enjoyed cheering for a team that was different. It helped that they had a great coach and won plenty of games. Once the Colts left Baltimore, Dolphins games were televised on the Baltimore/Washington stations almost every week. As a little kid I also remember enjoying watching the Dallas Cowboys with Tom Landry, Staubach, and Tony Dorsett. Of course they were on TV all the time too. I began collecting football cards in the 1976-1977 time frame and my biggest stack was Dolphins players.

I loved this game, I was laughing every time Matt Ryan had to peel himself off the carpet.
Very awesome: first time since 1988 that the Falcons were blown out at home.
(and I live west of the stadium).
My girlfriend also hates Matt Ryan, but for whatever reason she still pulls for the Falcons, so to be nice to her I said well at least they did not lose as bad this week.
(she also loved it every time Matt Ryan was sacked).
The highlight of the game for me, was when they showed the playoff picture, and all the way at the bottom right they had the Denver Broncos listed.
I said Hell Yeah!, the Broncos have a chance! (very slim chance, but at least they were mentioned).
I can not stand Bill Billichek, but I do like Mac Jones, so it was cool the stats they showed with him having more wins than the entire rest of that drafts QB's.
I just wish Mac Jones could have been drafted by pretty much any team other than the Patriots.

It's like a light was switched. They played decently against the saints, but then the Cowboys crushed them into oblivion. Now the Pats did the same.
They have the jags this next week, so that should be their chance for redemption.

It was just an ass kicking for the Falcons last night. I had passes to the Delta Club which extends out on part of the field behind the Pats bench.
Saw Grumpy up close and personal, billionaire team owners chatting it up, the well dressed Michael Irvin came by to visit fans and I also realized that the future Pats could someday be coached by BB’s son’s mullet and have Marvel Universe characters on the roster. The future looks bright.
Great to be up close but can’t hang out and watch the game from such a low angle. All and all it was a great night.
