Half of the fun of boosting a newer car is locating the battery, or the correct boost points. The easiest is the battery in the trunk , unless the car is totally dead, then it is, lift the hood, look for the power posts, go back inside or use the remote to open the trunk, to get to the battery.

Have found car battery locations in some out of the way places.
Between the front bumper and the left front tire.
Under the front passenger seat.
Under the rear seat.
Under the left front carpet, under a foam wedge, in the foot area.
Under the plastic cowl, inner fender cover.

Also, never really understood the GM side posts, less likely to short out a battery across the terminals with a misplaced wrench.

Quoted from GregCon:

Why would you drive with the door open? Let's say you just washed the pig and want to nose it 20 feet into the garage. So you don't bother closing the door all the way and try moving the vehicle. It lets you roll with just enough speed that when it slams into Park you think the trans has fallen out. Just. Flat. Stupid

This depends on the transmission shifter, or Park Brake design.
On M.Benz this feature is on most of them since 2013 or 2014.
BMW on some models does something similar. Can not move the vehicle if the hood and or door is open or partially open.
Audi on some models as well. With an electronic park brake.
