Thanks to Keefer for spotting this and tweeting it out:

From the English translation of the location's web site:
"Shinsaibashi Big Step" is a commercial facility in the Amerikamura area of Osaka that has been serving up original culture since 1993 with features like fashion, fun miscellaneous goods, gourmet cuisine, live music, and cinema entertainment.
With its cutting edge approach to covering all of the modern youth genres, this facility functions as a city land mark amongst the collection of small shops that is Amerikamura.

Can't wait for Vice's production of all the footage they took at Expo 2014!

I always wondered if Japan was into pinball, since they don't get involved with the IFPA stuff like Europe does. I thought that their arcades would just be video game only, but it's really cool to see a pinball arcade like that over in Japan.

A friend of mine was there a few months back.

Here is a story on it ... There are a lot more machines since this was written.

They used to have quite a few there in the 90s but got rid of them when the popularity waned.

They got put in containers and shipped to Europe and Australia.

I have a few ex Japan machines in my collection. Theyve done a lot of miles ....

    Made in Chicago
    Shipped to Japan
    Sold and shipped to Europe
Sold and shipped to New Zealand

    They've traveled the globe!!

Unfortunately, this arcade is also emptying the rest of the country of machines. There apparently used to be 100 more on location here and there, but SBP has been buying any and all machines they can find for the last year.

The local pin-dealers don't even want to look at me for a sale, since they know they can sell anything they can get their hands on to SBP.

    It's both great and unfortunate.

I used to frequent the arcades in Tokyo in the 90s and there were indeed pins in a few locations but pretty much none the last time I was there in 2006. Not surprising they got exported considering how small by U.S. standards most Japanese homes are. There's probably not much of a 2nd hand collector market since space for something as large as a pinball machine is at a premium.
