This might be a dumb question with an obvious answer, but better safe than sorry - the black band on one end of this original EOS diode on my Space Invaders is the equivalent of the silver band on a new diode, correct? So if I solder in the new diode with the band on the same side, everything will function the same?

Quoted from gutz:

Thats a 1n4148 switching diode. The dark edge is the "band". That switch is not an EOS switch (that cuts high power to the flipper), is it a lange change switch? Only switches in the matrix have switching diodes.

Quoted from dothedoo:

In Space Invaders, those switches are used to trigger the laser sounds on each flip.

Okay that makes sense, that's why it was in the EOS switch stack. Safe to replace this with a 1N4004?

Quoted from slochar:

Yes.... although if I owned a space invaders I'd disable the flipper boom sound for sure.

I believe there's a setting in the adjustments for that.
