I have a Scared Stiff that exhibited similar issues with the trough optos. It turned out to be bad solder connection in one of the vias where a trace was routed from the front side to the back side of the board. I would have thought these would have through-plated holes, but perhaps there was a break; they're very tiny holes. It's a long shot, but try checking continuity across the board where you see the trace end in a via.
