My vote goes to:
Centaur
Fathom
HS
I have Taxi for the late 80's and Defender for the early 80's and many in between that I like quite a bit. Most of them being later and of the system 11b variety.
There is only one winner, black knight. Ground breaking in so many ways, from magna save to multi-level playfield to great sound, it's the king of the 80s...IMO, of course.
Gotta go with Pinbot. Taxi (2nd choice), diner, whirlwind and f14 have all come and gone but Pinbot is still here. Just something about that game....

My Whirlwind says "1989" right on the playfield.I guess I would vote for Whirlwind.
Quoted from RWH:My votes
1) Black Hole
2) Cyclone
3) Comet
I had forgot about Black Hole (because I usually don't care for Gottlieb games), but I definitely consider it one of my early 80's picks.

Actually the next decade (90's) didn't start until January 1, 1991, so WW does in fact count.
Williams: Taxi and several other System 11 games; Space Shuttle, Sorcerer
Bally: Eight Ball Deluxe, Embryon
Stern: Seawitch, Star Gazer
Gottlieb: Black Hole, TX Sector

That's an excellent list right there!
You're all missing the best 80s machine out there. BK2k hands down. End of discussion. All other opinions are wrong!
The 80s have such a wide range. I would say centaur or spectrum for the early 80s and cyclone and Pinbot for the system 11s.
I'm quite partial to Sorcerer and whirlwind for obvious reasons but also love Taxi and space shuttle!

Strangely enough, I was just on that very same website today wondering what century the year 2507 would be in. I was thinking the 26th, but I wanted to double check.
The thing is the OP didn't ask "opinion best game from the 199th (or 198th???) decade". He just said 80s. So I stand by the 80s being 1980 - 1989.

Quite a few on there I haven't played. Why doesn't anyone ever take a Flash Gordon to a show?
Haunted House is a personal favorite - always liked that game more than Black Hole.
Also, the same System 11 stuff that everyone else has said, and Space Shuttle.

Just like Fireball, it took another ten years for the next progression.
Quoted from pascal-pinball:Banzai Run
whirlwind also gets my vote cause we had one in the local arcade and loved it...
Pinbot, high speed, cyclone, earthshaker, and grand lizard would be my choice for the five best ( they are in no particular order)

disqualified! The eighties start in 1981 and end on January 1, 1991! I read it on the internets somewhere!

There was one at PPE back in September.
Bally - Elvira and the Party Monsters
Gottlieb - Haunted House
Data East - Laser War
Stern - Flight 2000
Zaccaria - Farfalla (the only Zaccaria I've played)
If you're talking 80-89:
Williams - Black Knight
If you're talking 81-90:
Williams - Funhouse
So much change during the 80s - but I wouldn't mind owning any/all of these games.
