My vote goes to:

Centaur
Fathom
HS

#2 11 years ago

I'd throw Space Shuttle and PinBot in there...

#3 11 years ago

I have Taxi for the late 80's and Defender for the early 80's and many in between that I like quite a bit. Most of them being later and of the system 11b variety.

#4 11 years ago

F14
Cyclone
HS
Space Shuttle

#6 11 years ago

High Speed
Sorcerer
Firepower
Whirlwind

#7 11 years ago

80s covers a lot of change in pinball.

Early 80s Eight Ball Deluxe
Late 80s Whirlwind

#8 11 years ago

There is only one winner, black knight. Ground breaking in so many ways, from magna save to multi-level playfield to great sound, it's the king of the 80s...IMO, of course.

#9 11 years ago

I'll go with the system 11 games. Taxi, Whirlwind, EatPM, HS, ES . . .

#10 11 years ago

WW, Taxi and just because it looks so damn cool... SI.

#11 11 years ago

Whirlwind - Jan 1990 DISQUALIFIED!

#12 11 years ago

My votes

1) Black Hole
2) Cyclone
3) Comet

#13 11 years ago

F14
Space Shuttle
Comet

#14 11 years ago

Gotta go with Pinbot. Taxi (2nd choice), diner, whirlwind and f14 have all come and gone but Pinbot is still here. Just something about that game....

#15 11 years ago
Quoted from DugFreez:

My Whirlwind says "1989" right on the playfield.I guess I would vote for Whirlwind.

#16 11 years ago

F-14 Tomcat
High Speed
Cyclone & Taxi tie for third.

#17 11 years ago
Quoted from RWH:

My votes
1) Black Hole
2) Cyclone
3) Comet

I had forgot about Black Hole (because I usually don't care for Gottlieb games), but I definitely consider it one of my early 80's picks.

#18 11 years ago

F-14 for sure, the music is classic 80's.
Taxi- Whats more 80's than Gorbachev?
High speed.

#19 11 years ago

Actually the next decade (90's) didn't start until January 1, 1991, so WW does in fact count.

Williams: Taxi and several other System 11 games; Space Shuttle, Sorcerer
Bally: Eight Ball Deluxe, Embryon
Stern: Seawitch, Star Gazer

Pin-Bot
Solar Fire
Star Gazer

That's an excellent list right there!

#23 11 years ago

You're all missing the best 80s machine out there. BK2k hands down. End of discussion. All other opinions are wrong!

#24 11 years ago

The 80s have such a wide range. I would say centaur or spectrum for the early 80s and cyclone and Pinbot for the system 11s.

#25 11 years ago

I'm quite partial to Sorcerer and whirlwind for obvious reasons but also love Taxi and space shuttle!

#26 11 years ago

Bk2k, Comet, Fire!

Strangely enough, I was just on that very same website today wondering what century the year 2507 would be in. I was thinking the 26th, but I wanted to double check.

The thing is the OP didn't ask "opinion best game from the 199th (or 198th???) decade". He just said 80s. So I stand by the 80s being 1980 - 1989.

Pin-Bot
Solar Fire
Star Gazer

Quite a few on there I haven't played. Why doesn't anyone ever take a Flash Gordon to a show?

#29 11 years ago

Eightball Deluxe
Seawitch
Xenon

#31 11 years ago

Add a few Zaccarias to the list: Pinball Champ, Farfalla...

#32 11 years ago

BK and son of BK.Haunted House.High Speed.Elvira ATPM.

#33 11 years ago

I like BK2K and HS. Add WW if it counts as an 80s pin.

ES, Comet, F14 are quite fun too!

#34 11 years ago

Haunted House is a personal favorite - always liked that game more than Black Hole.

Also, the same System 11 stuff that everyone else has said, and Space Shuttle.

#35 11 years ago

I would have to say:
Haunted House
Taxi
Whirlwind
Black Knight
Black Hole
Firepower

#36 11 years ago
Quoted from Lermods:

Just like Fireball, it took another ten years for the next progression.

#37 11 years ago

banzai run

#38 11 years ago

whirlwind also gets my vote cause we had one in the local arcade and loved it...

#39 11 years ago

Pinbot, high speed, cyclone, earthshaker, and grand lizard would be my choice for the five best ( they are in no particular order)

#40 11 years ago

1black hole
2firepower
3xenon

#41 11 years ago

Taxi~ Haunted House and.... Police Force!~SpOoKy

#42 11 years ago

disqualified! The eighties start in 1981 and end on January 1, 1991! I read it on the internets somewhere!

#44 11 years ago

Cyclone
Haunted House
Comet
Firepower
Road Kings
Hollywood Heat
Taxi
Sorcerer

#45 11 years ago

Another vote for Cyclone.

#46 11 years ago

Barracora! Best rules of any earlier 80s pin I've played.

#47 11 years ago
Quoted from DugFreez:

There was one at PPE back in September.

#48 11 years ago

Sorcerer & firepower, for sure!

#49 11 years ago

Man you better like that firepower or sell it to me!!!

#50 11 years ago

Bally - Elvira and the Party Monsters
Gottlieb - Haunted House
Data East - Laser War
Stern - Flight 2000
Zaccaria - Farfalla (the only Zaccaria I've played)

If you're talking 80-89:
Williams - Black Knight
If you're talking 81-90:
Williams - Funhouse

So much change during the 80s - but I wouldn't mind owning any/all of these games.
