It's been an annual tradition for me to change the batteries on New Year's Day. This year I was a little late. On Friday I changed them as I always have. Machines on. Sunday I turned them on and lotr said OPEN THE DOOR. Ok, all my scores were gone. Machine reset itself. Dang. My scores weren't that great, but I'll never get my destroy the ring time of 37 seconds again. DESW, same thing, OPEN THE DOOR. Dang dang. What did I do wrong?

Batteries are only a backup when power is off. I would think you may have had the power off when changing batteries thus the machine had no power to retain scores. When changing batteries I always have game on. Hope that helps.

Could the batteries be in backwards? Ive done that when swapping out all games at once since some have different patterns (+,+,+ or +-+)

Crappy alkaline batteries. No longer guaranteed to even last to the expiration date.
